FROM THE POTENTATE’S DESK
Spring is fast approaching and with it will come new growth and warmer days.
The active participation of Ali Ghan Shriners will also generate new growth
and brighter days for our Temple.
The Ace of Clubs drawings have continued on Wednesdays, and soon someone
will pull that special card. The birthday dinner and Temple meeting were
well-attended. The family and patient, Ethan Yamashita, spoke at dinner.
Thank you to Jack Haines for facilitating their visit. The Temple meeting was
informative for those Shriners in attendance.

The generosity of a few Ali Ghan Shriners is becoming apparent. Some
Benefactor contributions have started coming in. Continued support of this
program will enable us to specifically pay off old debt and replace a long
overdue roof.
Several members of the Divan attended the Classic Car Club and Screening
Clinic for Children that was held at the Valley Mall in Hagerstown. Thank you
to the members of Sayara Unit who supported this activity. Several members
of the Divan also attended the Frontier Shrine meeting and installed their
officers for 2017. The Winter Rendezvous was held on February 25, attendees
had the opportunity to visit and shop at over 20 vendor displays.

Nobles,
A meeting of the Past Masters Unit was held on February 12, 2017 at
the Ali Ghan Shrine Club with 11 and 11 ladies present.
Present Past Master David L. Hall welcomed the Past Masters and their
ladies with a “Valentine’s Day Every Day” greeting and then called the
meeting to order at 1:05 p.m. The Pledge of allegiance was given and an
invocation by Past Master Gary Durr.
Unit Representative Past Master Roger Mullenax reported on the progress of the pavilion and picnic grounds. Onion sale now going on, see
him for order forms.
Under unfinished business it was reported that there are four seats left
for the Past Master Unit’s sponsored bus trip to greyhound races & casino in Wheeling, WV on April 15th and plans are under way for the
Cinco De Mayo event on Friday, May 5th.
For new business Past Master Jim Ward shared the idea of the Unit
laying wreaths for holidays on the veteran’s graves at the Rocky Gap
Veteran’s Cemetery. It would involve paying for the wreaths and then
laying on the graves at the cemetery. PM Bruce Whitaker will look into
a contact for the cemetery and how many veterans graves are there. PM
Jim Ward will find out the cost for the wreaths.
Under the “Good of the Club”, President Past Master David Hall introduced Past Masters Bob Dawson (Potomac Lodge No. 100) and Bruce
Whitaker (Queen City Lodge No. 131) and their ladies. He stated the
Unit was glad to have them here today.
Potentate William DuVall thanked the Unit for helping at his installation and spoke about upcoming Shrine events.
As Spring and warmer months approach, the mowing season
for our lawn at Ali Ghan will arrive. The need for volunteer
manpower will also be a necessity, as will covering expenses
for gas, oil, repairs, etc. If you can volunteer, please contact
me or the Shrine office at (301) 722-5970.
We are also in need of a storage shed for our mowing and
trimming equipment. If you can help, please contact me.
Thank you,
Noble Tom Paxton

To all Railroad Unit Nobles and Ladies,
Another month in the books for 2017 and spring cleanup is
fast approaching which means that we will need to pitch in
and prepare the unit for the upcoming train season which will
begin with the picnic ground rentals and then starting next
month our spaghetti dinners will start with the first one on
April 3rd. We would like to thank everyone who attends our
dinners for the continued support and hope to see you on
April 3rd.
So I hope all Railroad Unit members can help get our unit
ready for the upcoming Railroad Unit season. We will try to
set a date for a work party at our March 2nd meeting.
I just received notice that our first parade will be in Sharpsburg on May 27th and also just received notice of the 2017

We at the Railroad Unit take this opportunity to wish the 2017
Divan success throughout the year and offer the help of the
