Academic Challenge
Club members compete together in quiz bowl matches against teams from other
schools, answering questions from a variety of topics (e.g. history, arts, sports, pop
culture, etc.). This club meets weekly to provide a fun environment that tests your trivia
knowledge.

African-American Culture Association

Art Ambassadors
Art Ambassadors is a program for upper class students to learn more about the internal
workings of the art museum. They meet monthly in a small group to practice being
curators, get to know the collections up close, and create an activity for family day in
April.

Club members meet new people while exploring different art mediums, including
mediums perhaps not explored in an art class. Previous group projects have included a

Book Clubs
The Paranormal Book Club, the Popular Fiction Book Club and the Science
Fiction/Fantasy Book Club are three book clubs at Shaker, each advised by a different
library staff member. The club will discuss books online via a Google classroom and
then meet once a month for a get-together at the conclusion to talk about the month's
book and to introduce the next book.

Chanticleers is an award-winning competition showchoir. Singing and dancing to a wide
variety of music styles, the Chanticleers compete in national showchoir competitions

Cheerleaders
Cheerleaders support and cheer on Shaker's athletic teams as well as take part in
community events. In addition, the cheerleaders compete in their sport and volunteer for

Chess Club
Club members compete in a game that challenges their ability to be critical thinkers,
while also helping develop their focus and playing strategies. They have fun with one
another and compete statewide during the school year. Coach Mike Reeves does a
great job of keeping students' interest and making it fun to be part of the club.

Chinese Club meets weekly to have fun and learn about the culture of China through
games, art, music and food. Club members will have the opportunity to discover China's

Club members form groups of 3-8 musicians and collaboratively choose pieces to put in

Creative Writing Club is a laid back, coffeehouse-style club where members share their
creative works, enhance their writing skills with innovative prompts and games and have

Fencing Club is a place for those looking to just try out the sport, or those who are
already experienced athletes. In addition, the club helps students step out of their

The French Club explores French culture, such as watching French movies, eating

Garden Club (formerly called Shaker Seeds)
Club members work hands-on in the learning garden to plant and water an assortment of
flowers and vegetables. Students also harvest and cook some food items that they grow.

Gay Straight Alliance
GSA is an all-inclusive safe space for all LGBT students, teachers and straight allies
(everyone!). Club members meet once a week to discuss various topics ranging from
sexual orientation to gender identity.

Global Development Club
Global Development Club works to promote the United Nations Global Goals for
Sustainable Development. Club members will do this by educating the community about
the goals, supporting global initiatives, and starting local projects to make life better for
the community members.

Global Friendship Club
Club members meet once a week to learn about other countries and cultures. On

Goslar, German Exchange
Shaker German students host students from Goslar, Germany for two and a half weeks
in the fall and organize many activities, including the Goslar Welcome Assembly. Over
summer vacation, a select few visit Goslar to practice speaking the language, interact
with their German peers and immerse themselves in the culture.

Harry Potter Alliance
Harry Potter Alliance does community service based on and inspired by the world of
Harry Potter. Activities include book and clothing drives, literacy awareness campaigns
and sorting club members into their houses.

International Thespians Society

Israeli Culture Club
Club members learn about the holidays and celebrations that take place in Israel in
addition to other aspects of Israeli culture. Students also have the opportunity to talk with
Israelis to better connect with their culture.

Kick-It
Kick-It is a nationwide program that raises money for children’s cancer research through
donations to charity kickball games. Club members will raise money for their Kick-It team
in the spring and play in a kickball tournament.

Club members spend the year preparing for the end-of-year Latin convention, playing

MAC Scholars
A group of minority men devoted to promoting excellence in both academic and

Mano en Mano combines interests in Spanish culture and local community service. Club
activities include volunteering in Cleveland’s Hispanic community, cooking authentic

Math Club (formerly called Math League)
Club members meet on a bi-monthly basis and compete in the Ohio Mathematics
Contest (OMC) and the American Mathematics Competition (AMC). Students will
participate in contests and will collaboratively go over old contest problems for
enjoyment, challenge, and preparation. Math Club is open to all students in grades 9-12
and any level of math.

The micro-finance club aims to alleviate extreme poverty by lending small 0% interest

Club members compete against other schools, imitating lawyers in a court case. No

Club members learn to speak publicly in a fun, no-stress environment. The club
culminates in a competition at the end of the year, giving students an opportunity to
showcase their newly acquired skills.

Quidditch Club
Quidditch Club meets once a month over the weekend, or whenever members are
available, to play a few short games of Quidditch and have a good time. Any knowledge
of Harry Potter & Quidditch is not necessary and candy will be provided.

be about once a month, during the weekend, and exact dates and times to be
determined based on the availability of our members.

Raiderettes is a dance team made up of skilled and inexperienced dancers alike. Club
members perform with the band, at football games, events and parades. Students work
as a unit to promote school spirit and unity.

The Rubik's Cube and Puzzle Cube club looks to bring in anyone and everyone
interested in cubing from beginner to advanced. Club members meet once a month as a
group and should plan to have two competitions hosted at Shaker this year, one in the
fall and one in the spring.

Rugby Football Club
Club members of all shapes and sizes meet twice a week to learn about and practice
one of the fastest-growing sports in the United States.

Sankofa
Shaker's Sankofa show takes place at the end of black history month, showcasing the
talents of students through dance, song, spoken word and drama. Sankofa celebrates
African American history while raising awareness of social issues in the black
community.

SAY Student Leadership Council
The SAY Student Leadership Council brings students together from area high schools to
develop leadership skills, learn how to make healthy decisions and choose a positive
path. Students meet monthly at Bellefaire JCB to discuss teen issues, plan and
participate in volunteer activities, and promote events that support healthy adolescent
behavior.

Science Olympiad
Science Olympiad is a team-oriented science competition with competitors from all over
the country competing in several different events. Club members meet and work
together with people they might not necessarily meet otherwise, and have a blast while
preparing and competing in regional, state and national level competitions.

Semanteme Literary Magazine
Semanteme is Shaker Heights High School’s literary arts magazine, composed entirely
of students’ poetry, prose and visual art submissions. Club members judge pieces,
submitted by Shaker students, and compile them into a finished product. Members are
also able to submit pieces of their own.

Shaker Heights High School Crew
Club members row with a competitive and close-knit team of athletes. Shaker Crew travels
to regattas and competes against other teams from all across the midwest. No previous
rowing experience is needed. Shaker Heights High School is one of only three public
schools in Ohio to offer rowing.

Club members come up with solutions to world problems and problems in a country they
are assigned. Every year, club members travel to Canada and compete against other

Club members discuss ways to get involved in politics in their community, along with

Table Top Gaming Club
Club members can come to play games and enjoy themselves after school. Have a

Takatori, Japanese Exchange
The Takitori Exchange is a program associated with the Asian Studies course taught on
Wednesday evenings at the high school. Shaker Heights High School and TakitoriKokusai High School in Japan have maintained a relationship for nearly 30 years.
Students at Shaker and Takitori are given the opportunity to travel to Japan and the
United States to fully immerse themselves in the culture through a homestay.

Theatre Arts
Shaker Theatre hosts several different co-curricular activities in addition to its daily class
offerings. Co-curricular activities include: Theatre Social, Ensemble Preview, Fall Play,
Fall Musical, Solstice Sharings, 9th Grade Show, New Stages, Spring Ensemble Show,
Theatre Awards, Improv (listed above), Stage Crew (Club members get involved in the
school play by helping build the set. Students come once a week to eat good food and

The Worthing, England Exchange Program gives students an opportunity to host visiting

Yoga Club
Club members meet every week to take engaging, fun and accessible yoga classes at
Shaker. Yoga club's core values are community, authenticity and curiosity. Any student
can join and experience how yoga helps stressed out high school students- mentally and

request it from Ms. Costa.

Youth Ending Hunger Interact Club
