Familiar with Trados Studio and want a quick-start conversion guide to using MultiTrans? Please read on… We recognise that many of you will be familiar with using Trados Studio and we hope this guide below will help you to master the basics of converting to be a MultiTrans user. The basics: Topic New text MultiTrans… Shows all untranslated content as source text in black font copied to the target column. (1) Trados Studio… Shows source text copied to the target column or blank field in the target column. 100% and fuzzy matches Matches from the Translation Memory (up to 75%) will be pre-populated in the target column, 100% matches will be confirmed and the percentage scores of fuzzy matches will be displayed in the Segment Status column. Formatting of fuzzy matches Matches from the Translation Memory (up to 75%) will be prepopulated in the target column. Different colours have different meanings (explained in more detail in our Guide to Using the Web Editor). The target column will also display the match origin (TXB for TextBase or TM, for example) followed by the percentage score. (2) In fuzzy matches, words added to previous source sentence will be shown in red font in the source column. (3) In fuzzy matches, removed words from the previous source sentence will be shown in red strikethrough font. Terminology matches In fuzzy matches, words removed from the previous source sentence will be shown in green strikethrough font in the source column. (4) Term matches from the TermBase are pre-populated and shown in blue font in the target column. (5) In fuzzy matches, words added to the previous source sentence will be shown in underlined green font in the Translation Results window. Term matches are displayed in the Term Recognition window and need to be added manually to the target column. Page 1 SUPPLIERS_MultiTrans Guide for Trados Users_ v1 3 Using additional features: Topic Inserting terminology matches Saving a segment MultiTrans… If the term matches are not pre-populated into the target segment, click Translation Agent, double-click the term to insert it in the target segment, or right-click, select terminology and click the required term. To save a translated segment, press Enter. The current segment is saved and the cursor moves to the next column. Trados Studio… Term matches are copied into the target segment by selecting a rightclick option in the Term Recognition window or typing the first letter of the term. To save a translated segment, press Ctrl+Enter*. The current segment is saved and the cursor moves to the next column. Validation/QA checks You can enable Live Validation via the Review tab to check spelling, missing terminology, etc., and validation messages will indicate any errors found when you confirm a segment. Verification is automatically performed when you confirm a segment. At any time, you can generate a Validation report via the Review tab and check the whole file. At any time, you can press F8 to run a complete file verification. Autopropagation Identical segments are automatically translated when the first occurrence is confirmed (you are prompted to confirm). Pre-delivery validation After translation, you can use the Validation Report button (Review tab) to spell-check the entire file and correct any errors. Identical segments are automatically translated (by auto-propagation) when the first occurrence is confirmed. A confirmation prompt can be defined. After translation, you can press F7 to spell-check the entire file and correct any errors. Preview You can preview source, target, or source and target (side-by-side) text by clicking the Preview tabs on the bottom of the Editor screen. Preview is available in the Editor. For Studio 2011, side-by-side is only possible for HTML or XML file types. Finding text Go To and Find and Replace features are available on the Editor tab. Go To and Find and Replace available in the Editor view. Filters Segments can be filtered according to several criteria from the Review tab. Previous versions Segment history is recorded and previous versions can be restored using the right-click menu in the target segment or using the shortcut Ctrl+H. Display Filter toolbar can be used to filter segments according to several criteria. A segment can be restored to versions saved in a TM or to source. TM automatic update won’t allow for easy restoring of previous versions. Inserting tags To insert a tag into the target segment, right-click and select the tags available or press Alt+<digit> (digit corresponds to the number following the tag in the source segment). * All Trados Studio shortcuts mentioned are those used in the default user profile. To insert a tag into the target segment, right-click and select QuickPlace to select the tags available. Keyboard shortcuts exist.
