RPR v CREEPING RYEGRASSES
The interest in BAR 7 RPR and EXTREME RPR has been gaining momentum over the past year.
This revolutionary product contains a unique Barenbrug-bred cultivar of perennial ryegrass that produces
determinate stolons as it develops and grows. Normally, perennial ryegrasses exhibit a purely tufted growth
habit, with limited lateral growth only possible from standard tillers.
As is often the case with new products, where we lead, others try to follow, and we are already seeing other
“creeping ryegrasses” appearing in the market in UK and Ireland.
Some of these “alternatives” are actually older varieties that have been imported from USA, were originally
bred for the golf market, and in some circumstances were not even marketed as “creeping” when they were
first released.
In contrast, Barclay II is bred in Europe, with winter wear tolerance a foremost focus of the breeding programme,
and has been tried and tested in BAR Range mixtures in the UK prior to its full commercial launch.
In short, these products are NOT comparable. The table below examines the other creeping ryegrasses
currently in the sports market.
