NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER—Thursday, May 4, 2017
National Day of Prayer calls on all people of different faiths in the United States to pray for the nation
and its leaders. It is held on the first Thursday of May each year . In 1775 the Continental Congress allocated a time for prayer in forming a new nation. Over the years, there have been calls for a day of
prayer, including from President Abraham Lincoln in 1863. On April 17, 1952, President Harry Truman
signed a bill proclaiming the National Day of Prayer into law in the United States. President Reagan
amended the law in 1988, designating the first Thursday of May each year as National Day of Prayer .

PARISH PICNIC/YOUTH SUNDAY
Sunday, May 21
Plan to join us on Sunday,
May 21, as we celebrate
Youth Sunday. We plan to
recognize our seniors during
the worship service. If you
have a senior who graduates,
contact the Church Office
(736-0866) to let us know.
Following the 10:30 a.m.
worship service (feel free to
dress casually for church), we
will gather at Sesqui State
Park to grill hot dogs and
hamburgers (provided by the
church). Bring your favorite
side dish or dessert to share.
There is plenty of parking
available with sidewalks from
the parking area to the picnic
shelter (handicap accessible).
Restrooms are located close by,
and there is a wonderful playground for children. We have
reserved Shelter #5, which is
located adjacent to the parking
area, where we cook and serve
the food. There are many picnic tables; however, you may
want to bring folding chairs and
outdoor games.
There is a fee to enter the
park, you pay at the guard
station as you drive into the
park.
Fees to Enter Park
Adults: (Ages 16 to 64 years) $5.00 each
SC resident seniors (ages 65 and
up), 100% disabled, and Active
Duty, S.C. National Guard $3.25 each.

A special thank you to everyone who prepared for and/or participated in
Grandma Jennie's Memorial Service and the wonderful reception that followed in the Parish Hall.

Sincerely, Sandy Pruessner and John Motto
Dear St. David's Family:
We wanted to send a sincerely heartfelt Thank You to this wonderful and supportive church family. Our
church, St. David's, was the largest group that attended the RVHS play of any group that attended (a total
of 31!). Thank you again for spending a few hours with us and supporting both Illia and David. We have
the best church family.
Thank you again,
Tina & Yan Dia

Did you know?
The sentence "the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" uses every letter in the
English alphabet.
And, the Hawaiian alphabet only has 13 letters: five vowels (long and short) and eight
consonants, one of them being a glottal stop (called ?okina in Hawaiian).
