“greater than” and “less than”.

Greater Than, Less Than Game
Purpose: For students to practice using the terms “greater than” and “less than”.
Equipment Needed

1 or 2 dice per partner

photocopy of “Greater than, Less than” paper (this can be single or double sided)
How to Play

Students play in partners.

Students decided who rolls the dice first. This could be decided by discussion,
alphabetical order of first names, whose birthday comes first in the year, playing “rocks,
paper, scissors”, etc.

The first student rolls the die and writes the number in the first column of the second
row. Then the other student rolls the die and writes that number in the last column of
the same row. The first student then decides if the first number is greater or less than
the second number and writes the corresponding words in the middle column of the same
row.

The second student rolls the die and writes the number in the first column of the third
row. Then the other student rolls the die and writes that number in the last column of
the same row. The second student then decides if the first number is greater or less
than the second number and writes the corresponding words in the middle column of the
same row.

Play continues in this way until the sheet is filled or time is up.
Variations

Use two dice. Write the sum in the columns.

Use two dice. Students decide which number to use as a “tens” and which to use as
the “ones”. Students write the largest number they can in the columns.
