TV Shows
Written By: Anastasia Fontaine
T
here are many different types of television
shows: funny shows, terrifying shows, mind
blowing shows, romantic shows, cop shows, and
many more. I created a survey and asked the students and staff members of Urban Middle School
what their favorite shows are, what their least favorite shows are and what their favorite show was when
they were a little kid. Here are the results.
The show that got the most votes as the favorite throughout the whole school is SpongeBob
SquarePants. Twenty-seven people voted this as
their favorite show and a close second was Pretty
Little Liars at 23 votes. The least favorite show for
most people is Dora the Explorer. Forty-five people
voted this as their least favorite TV show. With 39
votes, SpongeBob is in second place for this category which is kind of weird. It's one of the most
favored shows yet it is second for the least favorite.
Funny how that works.
Anyway, with no real competition, SpongeBob
is the most favorited TV show when we were little
kids. SpongeBob won with a whopping 70 votes. In
second is Dora The Explorer at 37 votes and in third
place is Teletubbies at 18 votes.
I found some unique things that I will share
now. South Park, Futurama, Breaking Bad, Almost
Got Away With It and So You Think You Can Dance
all only got one vote as a favorite show. Another
thing, a show called The Walking Dead (my favorite
show) got 10 votes for the favorite shows category.
It's a gruesome, gory, zombie show and seven of
the fans are female. There are many more shows I
didn’t name but that’s all I am going to name. There
are good shows and bad shows, but it's all opinion
and no one should be offended. Different shows
have things we like, don’t like or appeal to us as little
kids. That’s all, folks!
Big Hero 6 Review

ig Hero 6 was created by Walt Disney
Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures.
It was directed by Don Hall and Chris Williams. The
main actors are: A smart robot making kid named
Hiro Hamada, voice by Ryan Potter. A smart, but
rule breaking teen named Gogo Tomogo, voice by
Jamie Chung. A neat freak that always tries to be
perfect and safe named Wasabi-No Ginger, voice
by Damon Wayans Jr. A funny guy that believes
in superheroes and villains named Fred, voice by
T.J. Miller. A sweet and friendly girl named Honey
Lemon, voice by Genesis Rodriguez, and last but
not least a robot made by Hiro's brother, Tadashi,
named Baymax, voice by Scott Adist.
They all live in San Fransokyo. There is also an
evil villain there named Yokai. Hiro finds a gang
of scientists (engineers making stuff never made
before) his older brother, Tadashi, shows him. Hiro
soon has a horrible experience that he encounter,
but Hiro teams up with the scientists and they all
make special suits including one for the big white
balloon like robot Baymax. Hiro has a tough time
handling this situation, but hey all go to stop Yokai
and save San Fransokyo as a team.
I recommend this movie to anyone who likes
comedy, action and heart warming scenesnos.
Review of The Hobbit:
Battle of the Five Armies
Written By: James Zajkowski
T
he Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies is the
third movie in the The Hobbit trilogy. It happens after the enormous cliff hanger in The Hobbit:
Desolation of Smaug where the fearsome dragon,
Smaug, was released from a century-long slumber
inside Erebor, The Lonely Mountain.
Right at the beginning of Battle of the Five
Armies there is a depiction of a giant red dragon
terrorizing a nearby town and setting everything
ablaze. Eventually, the dragon is killed, but not after
the town is destroyed and many lives are lost.
In my opinion, one of the most annoying parts
6th Grade
Battle of The H
Books
is the fact that our main characters did nothing to
help kill Smaug. I do not want to spoil much, but
obviously there is a battle between 5 armies. Also
included: a crazy, deranged orc. (Picture a humanoid troll, and that's an orc.); a greedy dwarf; angry
townspeople that wish for shelter from the elements;
a love relationship. (Think Romeo and Juliet in a different world.); and much more!
I know that some of you haven't seen it, so I
don't want to spoil it for you, but it won’t be out on
DVD for a while. If it's still in theaters, check it out,
though!

his 2014-15 school year, the 6th graders are
doing Battle of the Books once again. There
are eight teams this year and four members in each
group. The 32 students in the B.O.B. (Battle of the
Books) do their best and remember that the top 4
teams will be awarded. There are 4 matches leading
to the playoffs and only two teams will face each
other in the auditorium with the whole 6th grade
watching. The winner of the B.O.B. has the match
against the teacher team.
The host of Battle of the Books is Mr. Lueschow.
He has been doing B.O.B. for 10 years The B.O.B.
will begin in February and go into May. The books
for this year are Island of the Blue Dolphin, The
Giver, The Whipping Boy, Bridge of Terabithia,
Shiloh, and The Pinballs. The ILA teachers in 6th
grade are Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Louko. They have
the books that you need to read.

ave you ever heard the word falafel and wondered what in the world it was? If you haven't
heard of it, well then you just learned a new word. A
falafel is a food from the Middle East. The falafel is
completely vegetarian, which means it doesn’t contain meat and vegan, which means it doesn’t come
from an animal. It is fried and made from chickpeas
or fava beans. It is usually shaped into a ball or patty.
Now a days the falafel is often made in a sandwich
pocket made from a bread called pita and topped
with lettuce. The falafel can also be eaten alone as a
snack or as part of an appetizer.
The falafel is said to have originated in Egypt.
Most say it was created by Egyptian Christians to
replace meat during Lent. The popularity of the
falafel spread outward into the rest of the Middle
East through the port in Alexandria, Egypt. The
falafel started out being made out of fava beans,
mostly in Egypt. Then as it moved around the
Middle East, specifically in Israel and with the Jews,
it began being made with chickpeas instead.
If this article made you want to try the falafel,
well then here is a recipe. For this recipe you will
need: one 15 ounce can of chickpeas; one medium
onion; finely chopped; one tablespoon of minced
garlic; two tablespoons of fresh parsley; one teaspoon of coriander; ¾ teaspoon of cumin; ½ tea-

spoon of salt; two tablespoons of flour; and oil for
frying. This recipe should take only about fifteen
minutes.
Step 1: Combine the chickpeas, garlic, coriander,
cumin, onion, and salt in a medium bowl.
Step 2: Add flour to the bowl of ingredients and mix
well.
Step 3: Mash the chickpeas in the bowl, mash until it
is a thick paste.
Step 4: Form the chickpeas into a slightly flattened
ball, about the size of ping-pong ball.
Step 5: Fry in two inches of oil at 350 degrees
Fahrenheit until golden brown, 2-5 minutes.
Step 6: Serve the falafel anyway you like.

Battle of Books Continued...
Here are some tips for the readers. "If you start
by dividing the books up, then everyone on the team
should read the books that they are assigned," Mrs.
Johnson said. “Be sure to think while you are reading. Make sure you know the name of the author
of the book,” said Mrs Louko. Last but least Mr.
Lueschow, “Read the books, then quiz each other on
your team about the book.”
Try your best in the B.O.B. and you never know
yor team win the competition. It’s a good way of
challenging yourself to remember, think and to read.
The Battle of the Books is the time to read. Good
luck to everyone and keep reading!

Guardians of the Galaxy is a movie I recommend to anyone who likes action-packed,
intense moments or humor to keep you laughing through the whole movie.
