ceded to the United States under the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. Using a different type of
shading, indicate the strip of land called the Gadsden Purchase. Draw a line from each shaded
area to a space outside the map, and write a brief explanation of the events that led to the
acquisition of these lands by the United States.
