Group Analysis of “The Hollow Men” and Multiple Choice Test Construction Purposes of this lesson: To further your understanding of the complex format of the AP Literature and Composition Exam To analyze the poetry test questions for the higher order thinking skills they demand Directions: 1. With your partner/group discuss, analyze “The Hollow Men.” 2. Write a short analysis of the poem (no more than two pages) 3. Seek at least three critical resources to aid your analysis. 4. As a group, create 15-20 multiple choice questions for the poem, which parallel the format of the AP Exam. 5. Include a mix of question types. Be sure to include at least ONE of each of the following types of questions: a. Define a word in context b. Paraphrase the text c. Grammar/Syntax d. Notice repetition e. Interpret meaning and theme f. Identify a rhetorical device g. Identify tone, purpose, genre 6. Create an annotated key that justifies your answer and provides rational why the other answers or incorrect. Use the last student sample from “Order at Key West” as a formatting model. 7. Lastly, write a “self analysis” of the produced document (1-2 pages). 8. Prepare to present five of your questions to the class. Plan to use overheads or the LCD projector. Be prepared for Q/A. 9.
