Collect h Keep this s Mixing colors is always fun for kids, and it’s a great opportunity to make predictions, experiment and build vocabulary. In this activity kids will be excited to create secondary colors — and by the added fun of an eruption. What you need: • White vinegar • Baking soda • Red, yellow and blue food coloring • Small bottles or bowls • Eye droppers or spoons • Rimmed plates or pans Try this: 1. Create primary-colored vinegar with the food coloring. Use the bottles or little bowls. 2. Have your child pour a pile of baking soda on the plate. 3. Dribble one of the colored vinegars on the side of the baking soda using an eye dropper or spoon. Some of the baking soda will become colored and fizz. 4. Ask your child to choose another color. What color will the baking soda become when they add the new color? 5. Continue predicting colors and adding vinegar. 6. Does the baking soda eventually stop fizzing? Why might that be?
