Lesson 6
Drop-Off Time Activity - Get On The Circus Train!
Purpose:
In this activity, the children will be introduced to the theme of the series as they
sort themselves into groups of circus animals.
Description:
The teacher will tape a picture on the back of each child as they enter the
room. The picture will be of an animal and of a child showing how to act like
that animal. The children will try to help each other figure out what animal is on
their back by acting out the animal. Once they find out their animal, they will
move to the taped square that is their circus train car.
Materials Needed:
For this activity you will need this Help Sheet, tape, and the “Get On the Circus
Train Animals Lesson 6” from the Lesson Materials CD-ROM.
Note: Choose 4 of the animal pictures to use each week. Print as many of those
as you will need. Then, prior to the beginning of class, you will need to tape 4
squares on the floor in your room. Make sure they are large enough for several
children to stand inside. This will be your circus train. Tape an animal picture to
each square.
Note: For optional background music, set
# 1 your CD player to repeat track 1 on your
Under The Big Top Jr. Sound track CD.
To Introduce The Activity Say:
1. Hi! Welcome to our class today!
2. I’m going to tape a picture of an animal to your back.
3. What you have to do is ask someone to help you find out what animal
you are.
4. They will help you by acting out the animal they see on your back.
5. Then you can help them figure out what they are by doing the same thing
for them.
6. Once you know what animal you are, look for a picture of that animal on one
of these taped squares.
7. That is our circus train. Stand inside the square and act like your animal.
8. Once we get everyone on the circus train, we’ll move on to the circus!

For detailed instructions on how to lead the activity see the Classroom Activity Training DVD.
During The Activity Say:
1. You are all doing a great job figuring out what animal you are.
2. Keep helping your friends find out what animal they are.
Note: If time permits, you can switch the pictures around and play again.
After The Activity Say:
1. Everyone did a great job finding out what their animal was.
2. You also did great helping your friends find out what animal they were.
3. After we learned what our animal was, we loaded up on the circus train!
Closing Statement:
We are going to check out some new friends who are visiting the circus and
see what they learn about this week.

Opening Classroom Activity
If you have younger children in your classroom,
you can give each child an animal picture instead
of taping it on their back. They would have to find
the correct square to get into by matching their
picture with the one on the square. Once all the
children are in one of the squares, start the game
over and give each child a new picture.
™
Another way to play this game is to put the
picture on each child’s back then have everyone
in the class act out that animal together. That
child would then move into the appropriate
train car.

2. Next, your mom comes in and sees that your room is a mess! She tells you to
clean up your toys before you go downstairs.
• Disobey - You choose not to clean up your toys and rush to get out of the
room, but you stub your toe on a toy and now it hurts. Everyone act like
you are rushing out of the room and stubbed your toe. How it hurts!
• Obey - You choose to obey your mom and clean up your toys. Pretend to
clean up your toys.
3. It is time for breakfast, and you need to go down the stairs. Your mom tells
you not to run down the stairs and to walk nicely

• Obey - You eat your food slowly and blow on it to cool it down. Pretend
to eat slowly and pretend to blow on your food.
5. You want to go play outside. Your mom tells you to stay close to the house
and not to wander off far away.
• Disobey - You decide that you want to go play in the woods behind your
house. You keep walking farther and farther into the woods. Then you
realize you played so far away that you are lost! And now, you are scared.
Pretend to go off into the woods and then act scared.
• Obey - You stay behind your house and play with your favorite toy.
Pretend to play with whatever your favorite toy is.

bed for a nap.
• Disobey - You are still lost in the woods! And now it is getting cold
outside, and you do not have a jacket. Pretend to be cold. Finally you

late for nap, so your mom puts you in time-out. Everyone sit down like
you are in time-out.
• Obey - You go upstairs to your room and climb in your warm bed.
Pretend to get in your warm bed and fall asleep.
After The Activity Say:
1. You did a great job acting out the story!
2. Which time did the story end better, when you obeyed your mom or when
you disobeyed your mom? (Obeyed my mom.)
3. That’s right! What kind of things happened when you disobeyed your mom?
(Hurt my toe. Got lost. Was cold. Was scared. Missed snack time.)
4. What happened in the story when you obeyed your mom? (Didn’t get hurt.
Played nicely outside. Got to eat my favorite snack. Had nap in my warm bed.)
5. Yes! Just like in the story, when we obey our parents, our day turns
out better.
6. Let’s all say the Main Point one more time! I Will Obey My Parents!
Closing Statement:
God wants us to obey Him and the people He puts in our lives like our parents
and teachers. In the story when you disobeyed your mom, your day didn’t turn
out to well. We need to remember to obey our parents, so we can have a
good day!

Aha! See that bathroom over there? I want you to go straight to the
bathroom, and I can watch you from here. And then come straight
back. Okay?
Ethan
Okay!
Michael
And Ethan, do not go anywhere else but the bathroom. I’ll be
watching.
Ethan
Yes, Dad!
Fernando
And this part goes here, and that part goes there, and then it’s going to
go BOOM!
Ethan
Whoa! What a cool cannon... I better get a closer look... (walks over to
the cannon and starts looking at it)
Fernando
Hey, kid! Don’t touch anything. You shouldn’t be around here, it’s
dangerous. Go away! Now, where did I place the thiggamabobber and
whatsit?
Ethan
Now that he is gone, I can get a closer look at this cannon! This is so

Michael
Ethan, are you okay? What were you thinking?
Fernando
Yeah, what were you thinking - you could have hurt my cannon!
Humph.
Michael
You could have seriously injured yourself. Didn’t you hear me
when I said to go straight to the bathroom and come straight back?
Ethan
Yes, but I wanted to see the cannon.
Michael
You could have come and asked me. I would have taken you to see

Skit And Bible Story Video (Continued)
Michael
Ethan, the Bible says that you are supposed to obey your parents, that
means you need to obey me. I want what is best for you. Let me tell
you a Bible Story to help you understand.
This story is about a man named Samson, but it starts before Samson
was even born. An angel of the Lord came to Samson’s parents and
told them that they were going to have a son. The angel told them that
their son was going to grow up to save their people, the Israelites,
from the Philistines, who were ruling over them. The angel told them
that their son was going to be born very special and that they needed
to follow certain rules. Samson was going to be born as a Nazirite,
which means that there were certain drinks that he couldn’t drink,
certain foods that he couldn’t eat, and he couldn’t ever cut his hair.
If they followed all of these rules that the Lord had given them, then
Samson would help save them.
When Samson was born, his parents followed the rules. As he grew up,
his parents told him the rules that he had to follow. And because they
all were following the rules, Samson had a special gift. He was
super strong!
But, Samson didn’t always obey his parents. When he got older he
ate some food that he wasn’t supposed to, and he even had his hair
cut! Because he had disobeyed his parents, which also means that
he was disobeying God, Samson lost his super strength. Then he was
captured by his enemies and put in prison. In the end, Samson prayed
to God to help him defeat his enemies, and God helped Samson
defeat them before he died.
So you see Ethan, Samson was given specific rules by his parents and
all he had to do was follow them. If he followed those rules then he
might have been able to defeat his enemies earlier, and he probably
wouldn’t have been captured and put into prison. Samson’s parents
gave him rules to help him.

The same goes for you. I love you, Ethan, and when I tell you to do
something, or not to do something, it is because I want what is best
for you. And when you disobey me, then you could get hurt, like
you did today. You can also miss out on cool things, like getting to
see the ringmaster.
Ethan
What do you mean? Aren’t we going to get his autograph?
Michael
Well, we were, but when you fell into the cannon, I had to leave the
line to come get you. Now, the ringmaster has left because he has
to go get ready for the next act in the circus.
Ethan
So because I disobeyed you, I don’t get to see the ringmaster.
Michael
No, we don’t get to see him now.
Ethan
I’m sorry, Dad.
Michael
I forgive you. But you need to obey me next time I tell you do
something. C’mon, I think I hear the music playing to start the next

Story Picture.
4. Wow! Everyone did a good job getting the beanbag into the
monkey’s belly!
5. Now, it’s time for us to review the Bible Story. Let’s all sit down!
Note: Read through the following descriptions to review the Bible Story with
your class.
Angel with Samson’s parents - The Bible Story today is about a man named
Samson, but it starts even before he was born. One day, an Angel of the Lord
came to Samson’s parents and told them that they were going to have a son that
would grow up to save their people, the Israelites, from the mean rulers the
Philistines. The angel told them that their son was going to be born special and
needed to follow special rules. Samson was going to be a Nazirite which meant
that he couldn’t eat certain foods, drink certain drinks, or even cut his hair!
Samson growing up to be super strong - When Samson was born, his parents
followed the rules that the angel had given them. As he grew up, his parents
told him the rules that he had to follow. Samson obeyed his parents and
because of that he had a special gift. Samson grew up to be super strong!

Bible Story Bean Bag Toss (Continued)
Samson not obeying his parents- However, Samson didn’t always obey his
parents. When he got older, he ate some food he wasn’t supposed to and even
cut his hair! Because Samson disobeyed his parents, which also means that he
was disobeying God, he lost his super strength.
Samson in prison- Samson was then captured by his enemies and thrown into
prison. In the end, Samson prayed to God to help him defeat his enemies, and
God helped Samson defeat them before he died.
After The Activity Say:
1. You all did great playing this game and listening to the Bible Story review!
2. Let’s all say our Main Point! I Will Obey My Parents!
Closing Statement:
Remember that God wants us to obey our parents. When Samson obeyed his
parents, he had super strength. When he disobeyed his parents, he lost his
special gift. When we obey our parents, our day will turn out better!
