Second, we really have a good excuse. We are very fortunate to have many clients who trust us with their issues – big and small. As a result, everyone here has been working full tilt and we have neglected our duties re: the newsletter. In response to our workload we have hired more staff and request that you join us in welcoming Ambir Wilson our newest paralegal and Jackie Leitzel our new administrative assistant. Summer is now half done and I think I have missed most of it – at least that is what my yard looks like. Enjoy the rest of the summer and we will do a better job of being timely with the newsletter. Thanks for your understanding and for trusting us with your matters. Kellam & Brandon Did you know? It may seem that an older clunker is the best car for your teenager, since there is a good chance they may bang it up some more, but this is actually an unwise choice because teens have the highest crash rate. Newer Vehicles with up-to-date safety features will go much further in protecting your teens from this statistically heightened risk. A car that has already been damaged is more likely to crumble in the next accident, putting your child’s safety at risk. The Hawaiian alphabet consists of 13 letters – five vowels (A,E,I,O,U) and eight consonants, one of which is a glottal stop called an ‘okina. (H,K,L,M,N,P,’). The ‘okina is considered a consonant because a missing ‘okina can change the meaning of a word. Kai=sea, while Ka’i=to lead. “I didn’t fail the test. Deb Dishes: There are so many choices in our area when dining out. I was recently asked about small spots where the locals go. Well, we have a plethora of those as well! Gus & George’s on Virginia Beach Blvd is a family owned and operated place that is a longtime favorite of a few generations (40+ years). While the décor may be a little dated, the food and service is certainly not. It’s called “Spaghetti and Steak House”, but they also have Greek food and still serve every table with a basket of crackers and butter. When I was a child, I loved going out to dinner so I could eat butter and crackers. It’s one of the very few places you can still get liver & onions (yum). Some favorites are veal or eggplant parmigiana, Greek burgers, chicken kabobs, baked spaghetti & steak, hand cut fries, homemade meatballs or just a steak with two sides. They offer daily lunch specials at a very reasonable price. The staff is very friendly, service is good and they can accommodate larger crowds if you have a big family, bring children or want to hold a business meeting. Tell me about a place near you that you really enjoy! Family Corner On The Local Front YES, THERE ARE SHARKS ON OUR COAST. Its summertime and everyone flocks to the shores for fun in the sun. This summer the shark population is helping to remind everyone that the ocean is their domain. A swimmer has only a 1 in 11.5 million chance of being bitten by a shark, according to the International Shark Attack File at the Florida Museum of Natural History. But with so many more people in the water, the chances are greater for the possibility of more interactions. Weather conditions like warmer water temperatures and currents are bringing bait fish to our coasts, resulting in an influx of sharks. Only about a dozen of the 300 species of sharks have been involved in attacks on humans, including white tip, black tip, mako, tiger, bull, and spinner and yes, even great white sharks. Lia’s son Grant enjoyed the carnival at Mt. Trashmore as evident by this action picture! There are some things you can do to lessen your chance for an encounter with a shark. Don’t swim near piers where bait is dropped all day, at night or dusk, or during rough waters (storms) where the churning sea makes it difficult for a shark to see, and don’t wear shiny objects. What can you do if you are bitten by a shark? Be aggressive by hitting it on the nose, claw at its gills and eyes – these are all sensitive areas and result in the shark letting go. Sharks do not eat humans for food, but may not see the difference between you and a marine mammal until it bites. Credit Tip: Deb was loving life when she had all her kids and grandkids under her roof for a week. Bryant, Max, Mia & Scottie had fun at the beach. They also went to Bush Gardens for the first time and didn’t want to leave after 7 hrs! Well, maybe Scottie, he was done. In a secure place, keep a list of all websites where you have credit/debit card automatic payments occurring (Busch Gardens season pass, storage units, magazine/newspaper subscriptions, etc). If your credit card is ever stolen, this will make it easier to visit each site you need to enter in your new credit card number in order to avoid late fees or penalties.
