MEDIA RELEASE Embargoed to: Saturday 1 February 2014 Media Inquiries to: Skye Murtagh, SDM Communications Mobile: 0419 836 929 Email: [email protected] Local bands to rev up Clipsal 500 Adelaide concert series Six emerging South Australian acts have been selected to take the stage with some of Australia and the world’s biggest bands at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide Concert Series in February/March. Selected through Music SA’s Bands on Track 2014 project – a partnership with the Clipsal 500 Adelaide with support from Nova 91.9 and Mix 102.3 – the local artists will perform over three nights at the Clipsal 500 Concert Oval Stage. Minister for Tourism Leon Bignell said the Bands on Track initiative is a fantastic way to showcase the State’s most exciting up-and-coming bands. “Bands on Track has been extremely successful in previous years and is a great way to support and encourage the development of young South Australian music talent,” Mr Bignell said. “At last year’s Clipsal 500, there were 15,053 visitors from interstate so it gives these young artists a chance to have their music heard by a national audience.” Bands to perform in the Clipsal 500 Adelaide Concert Series include: Friday 28 February 2014 Jimblah and Full Tote Odds Selected to open for Bliss N Eso, Horrorshow and Allday Saturday 1 March 2014 Bad//Dreems, and Echo and The Empress Sunday 2 March 2014 Max Savage and The False Idols, and Kaurna Cronin Selected to open for Empire of the Sun and Kimbra Selected to open for Keith Urban, Guy Sebastian and Boom Crash Opera Mr Bignell said this year’s event, which runs from 27 February until 2 March, is again expected to be a major tourism drawcard for the state following on from a stellar 2013, in which there were 286,500 attendances – one of the most successful year in the event’s history. “Total spending associated with the 2013 event was $54.8 million, with an economic benefit to the state of $36.63 million – a 7.7 percent increase on 2012. That is a phenomenal result,” Mr Bignell said. “We would encourage our visitors to take a trip to other regions across the State while they are here for the race, to experience all we have to offer in food and wine, adventure and spectacular scenery.” Music SA General Manager David Grice said Bands on Track was a unique opportunity for SA talent to support award winning international artists. “The acts we’ve selected will perform their music to massive crowds on a huge stage with first-class production. It’s going to be an unforgettable weekend of live and local music,” Mr Grice said. Hailing from the Larrakia Nation in Top End Northern Territory, he is influenced by a wide range of different artists and genres, his main passion being hip hop. The most striking thing about Jimblah is not his ability to sing, rap and produce beats, it’s the eyebrowraising fact he does them all so well. His flow alone outshines most MCs, but his tone and singing style are so memorable, so drenched in soul, it’s music for the heart. Then consider his signature dusty, chopped-up melodic productions and you begin to understand Jimblah is truly a special talent. His new album ‘Phoenix’ was released by Elefant Traks on October 11, 2013. It was universally adored by critics and fans and quickly stormed to #1 on the AIR Chart. The talented 4 man crew, made up of Levelheaded, Eslev, DJ Sanchez and Ross Read have created a unique vibe cleverly combining hip hop with a diverse array of traditional styles including Motown Northern Soul & Funk. They’ve already caused a serious groundswell of reaction courtesy of their radio hit, Southern Wind and most recent track, New Orleans, and with a forthcoming LP The Chosen Few set for release this year, our money is on FTO making waves at this year’s Clipsal 500. There's no time to wallow in the mire. If you do you're just gonna get sucked away. Bad//Dreems know this. That's why they got together the summer before last. Scratch the surface here and you find another world, far removed from the leafy inner suburbs. The empty jail on the edge of the city. A decade long bikie war. The Family. This is the weird murder capital. The weed capital. It is this world, constructed or not that Bad//Dreems attempt to capture in their debut EP, Badlands. After launching their debut self‐titled album, the girls released the single One More Tear which took the UK by storm and is still being played on radio stations all around the country. The albums first song Balloon and their new single One More Tear were played regularly on one of Australia's favourite radio stations. ‘Balloon’ also reached number one on the Australian National Community Radio AIRIT charts (top ten tracks most ordered for airplay in a week) in June 2011. Earlier achievements saw the girls considered one of the top ten emerging bands of 2010 by the popular radio station, Nova 919 in their SA’s Heaps Good Bands Competition. With almost three hundred shows under his belt from the last eighteen months; his is a sound of bitter regret and rock and roll swagger that belies his youth, talent and magnetic stage presence.
