As an experienced analytical chemist, I worked with engineers, biologists and ecologists on non-targeted chemical analysis of partial polar mutagenic polyaromatic compounds and planar polycyclic mutagens by applying the EffectDirected analysis (EDA) approach. I developed high throughput analytical methods for chromatographic fractionations of environmental complex extract on various novel stationary phases. Several toxic stressors interpreted the measured response in the bioassay were positively identified by integrating database search, diagnostic classifiers from APCI-MS/MS and chromatographic behavior. As part of a cooperation project between Prof. Grote’s group and the Institute of Analytical Science (ISAS) in Dortmund, I started my work at ISAS. I joined the research area “metabolomics” in the working group of organic mass spectrometry. My PhD work was divided into three parts: first, studies about the applicability of natural membranes (animal intestines) for the enrichment of selected drugs and their metabolites from aquatic matrices. Second, developments of trace analytical methods based on GC/MS and LC/MS, and third apply of these methods to study the degradation of pharmaceutical residues in water/soil model systems. I developed sensitive and reliable analytical methods and successfully I applied it in a large series of measurements within the twinning-project. Then, I joined long-term biodegradation experiments in the Institute for Water Research, Dortmund, and I performed pilot batch and biofilm reactors biodegradation experiments and I analyzed river surface water.
