Occupation or position held Scientist (Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellow) at Effect-Directed Analysis Dep.
Name of employer Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research-UFZ, Leipzig, Germany
Accomplishment and During my stay in UFZ I played a vital role in two European projects (MODELKEY and
achievement KEYBIOEFECTS). As an experienced analytical chemist, I worked with engineers,
biologists and ecologists on non-targeted chemical analysis of partial polar mutagenic
polyaromatic compounds and planar polycyclic mutagens by applying the EffectDirected analysis (EDA) approach. I developed high throughput analytical methods for
chromatographic fractionations of environmental complex extract on various novel
stationary phases. Several toxic stressors interpreted the measured response in the
bioassay were positively identified by integrating database search, diagnostic classifiers
from APCI-MS/MS and chromatographic behavior. As well as, I contributed in writing
several deliverables reports to the European Commission, manuscripts, book chapter
with title “Separation Techniques in Effect-Directed Analysis; ISBN: 3642183832”, cosupervised two PhD students in the Dept. of Effect-Directed analysis (U. Lübcke-Von
Varel, and C. Gallampois), and I participated in several scientific meetings and
workshops where I presented my scientific work for more information please read page
6-9.

Occupation or position held Senior Scientist at Environmental Research Center
Name of employer Royal Scientific Society, Amman, Jordan
Accomplishment and While I was working in RSS, I provided expert advice in sampling, sample preparation
achievement technique, chromatographic separation techniques (LC&GC), analytical chemical
dervitizations, calibration techniques, adapted analytical methods and wrote SOPs,
methods development using hyphenated chromatographic and spectroscopic
techniques, analytical methods validation, interpreted mass spectra generated by EI/CI
in GC-MS, WHMIS legislations, complying with the ISO 17025, monitoring quality
control programs, participated in failure investigation and root cause analyses, and
laboratory management as well.
Dates September 2005 – August 2006
Occupation or position held Postdoctoral Fellow at Division of Analytical & Environmental Toxicology
Name of employer University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine, Edmonton, Canada
Accomplishment and In UofA, I developed a novel analytical method for characterization and quantification of
achievement complex naphthenic acid mixtures in oil sand tailings ponds water. The method was
applied in remediation studies (biodegradation, and advanced oxidation) in
collaboration with civil & environmental engineering dept. and dept. of biological
science in UofA. As well as, I made scientific contributions and co-supervised two
graduate student’s projects in Dr. Martin’s group involving the analysis and study of the
metabolism of perfluoroalkyl substances (J.P. Benskin) and polybrominated diphenyl
ether (DE-71) in biological fluids and tissues (F. Zhang). Additionally, I wrote a research
proposal to Alberta Ingenuity Fund with the title “New Analytical Technique for
characterization and quantification of complex naphthenic acid mixtures in oil sands
tailing and its application to remediation technologies”, and later the group recived a
funding from Alberta Ingenuity.
Dates August 2001 – May 2005
Occupation or position held Research Scientist (PhD candidate) at Metabolomics Department
Name of employer Leibniz-Institute for Analytical Sciences– ISAS – e.V, Dortmund, Germany
Accomplishment and In August 2001, 1 moved to the research group of Prof. Manfred Grote in the University
achievement of Paderborn in Germany. As part of a cooperation project between Prof. Grote’s group
and the Institute of Analytical Science (ISAS) in Dortmund, I started my work at ISAS. I
joined the research area “metabolomics” in the working group of organic mass
spectrometry. My PhD work was divided into three parts: first, studies about the
applicability of natural membranes (animal intestines) for the enrichment of selected
drugs and their metabolites from aquatic matrices. Second, developments of trace
analytical methods based on GC/MS and LC/MS, and third apply of these methods to
study the degradation of pharmaceutical residues in water/soil model systems. I
developed sensitive and reliable analytical methods and successfully I applied it in a
large series of measurements within the twinning-project. Then, I joined long-term
biodegradation experiments in the Institute for Water Research, Dortmund, and I
performed pilot batch and biofilm reactors biodegradation experiments and I analyzed
river surface water. My research findings were presented in several national and
international conferences, and published in peer reviewed journals.
