Literacy Task A
( 1 hour)
All students complete questions 1-6
Higher Level students also complete question 7
The following text is from the website visitblackpool.com
1. Blackpool - Britain’s most popular holiday destination - is crammed
with thrills and excitement, making every visit a fun-filled
adventure. White-knuckle-seekers can experience the adrenalin of
the Pepsi Max Big One, Infusion and other thrilling rides to set the
pulse racing at the world-famous Pleasure Beach Resort, or slide the
world’s longest indoor rollercoaster waterslide at Sandcastle
Waterpark.
2. Combine fun and wild animals in a fabulous family day out at
Blackpool Zoo, home to 1,500 animals, birds and insects from all over
the world. Blackpool Zoo is a “must visit” destination in this popular
resort. Mature parkland, lakes and superb enclosures provide homes
to many exotic and endangered species from around the world. Lions,
tigers, elephants, giraffes, apes, penguins and many more family
favourites can be found here all year round.
3. Fish and flippers combine in the new “Active Oceans” arena which
unites the fun and frolics of the sea lions with the streamlined
swimming of the penguins next door. Already boasting the largest
sea lion pool in the UK, the zoo has extended and refurbished the
surround to allow visitors much closer access to these amazing
animals and birds. Also new for 2010 at Blackpool Zoo is a
walkthrough wallaby enclosure which, like the very popular “Lemur
Wood” will allow the animals to get as close as they want to the
visitors.
4. Visit the iconic Blackpool Tower and experience the spectacular
family circus, take a waltz around the magnificent ballroom, swing
around the amazing Jungle Jim’s Towering Adventureland or travel
to the top!
5. Choose your personal favourite on Blackpool’s famous promenade:
whether it’s an encounter with weird and wonderful creatures from
the deep at the SEA LIFE Centre; meeting your favourite
celebrities at Madame Tussauds Blackpool; a spot of crazy golf at
the Golden Isle or Pleasure Beach Resort ; a visit to a pier or
checking out the cornucopia of crazy objects in Ripley’s Believe It or
Not! And of course, there are miles of golden sand to enjoy at your
leisure – it’s not called the Golden Mile for nothing!
6. There’s plenty of fun for all in Blackpool, whatever your age! Want
to keep all the family entertained and amused while you’re on
holiday? Looking for family activities? Then Blackpool is the only
place for you and your family, the great range of family attractions
and activities will keep you entertained and wanting to come back for
more.
