From the Principal
Welcome to the final edition of Kareela Kids for 2016.
Good bye and Good luck!
As the 2016 school year draws to a close we have to say good bye
to a number of our staff. Sonia Angelic, a member of our Admin
team, Andy Sexton, our fantastic school counsellor, Sandra
Campbell, our learning and support teacher, Shelly Wilcomes, our
relieving Assistant Principal and of course Ms Bruyn, after 40 years
working for the Department of Education and the last 27 years at
KPS. Each and every one of these people have had a positive
impact on our school and we will certainly miss them. I know the
whole KPS community will join with me in wishing them good luck
and happiness on the next stage of their journeys.
Year 6 Mini Fete
Congratulations to our year 6 students who organised a fantastic year 6 Mini Fete day. All the students had
a great day and every stall was organised beautifully. Well done Year 6!
End Of Year Excursions
Yesterday all of our students survived the heat and enjoyed their end of year excursions. Stage 3 were at
the Sydney Aquarium and Madam Tussauds, Stage 2 enjoyed the Power House Museum and an adventure
up to the Sydney Eye and our K-2 visited Kurnell and the EEC. Thank you to the parent volunteers and our
organising teachers.

Year 6 Farewell
Our Year 6 students had a wonderful farewell last Thursday evening at Kareela Golf Club. They all looked
absolutely wonderful and danced the night away. Thank you to Mr Peacock and the wonderful group of
parents – Mr & Mrs Hancock, Ms Cremen, Mrs Napier, Mrs Stone, Ms Pratt and Mrs Owens - who assisted
with the organisation and decorations - the room looked beautiful!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the whole school community for the warm welcome and support
I have received during this term. I look forward to continuing the outstanding programs here at KPS and
working with all students, families and staff in our learning partnership. I would like to wish everyone a
wonderful festive season and a very happy and prosperous beginning to 2017.

Thank You
I would like to take this time to thank all the teachers and staff of Kareela Public school for all the hard work
they do throughout the year and welcome Nicole Arnold to the school.
Kareela P&C have had a great year in 2016. The P&C has supplied the school with 40 iPads & new school
lighting which will be completed over the holidays.
These things would not have been achieved without the help and support of the Kareela community, local
business and the countless hours the P&C volunteers put in through the year.
Special thanks to the girls who have organised fundraisers, such as the Bunnings BBQ and the BBQ on
election day. Also, to the fundraising from the Mother’s day and Father’s day stalls and we can’t forget the
school discos. This takes a lot of time and energy to arrange and a large amount dedication from these
ladies.
2017 is almost upon us, and we have much more that we would like to do. With Karnivale early next year,
we would like to use the money raised to support the school in getting new air conditioning and artificial
grass for the basketball court.
In order to do all of this we need the support from the Kareela School community. We would like to see new
faces – including more dads - to be involved and offering new ideas to the P&C in 2017.
Once again, thank you for all the help and support we have received in 2016.
On behalf of the Kareela Public School P&C, I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas.

KPS P&C Canteen : Closed for the year!
Just a friendly reminder that the canteen has sold out of everything and is now closed for the year. Thank to
Bev, Debbie and Sue for doing all the cleaning and defrosting the fridges and freezers ready for next year.
On behalf of the P&C we would like to take this opportunity to thank all our volunteers who have kindly
helped in the canteen throughout the year. We are very thankful for the jobs such as ordering, preparing,
special food days, and filling in at short notice. With your hard work this service has kept the days open for
our students. A big thank you once again.
We are also seeking helpers for 2017 - please contact us at: [email protected]
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Paver update
We have been unable to find a landscape gardener who has the time to lay the pavers before Christmas.
We had someone booked in but they cancelled on us in November hence the last minute rush to try and
find a replacement. We are really sorry about this because we desperately wanted to get the job done in
time for the current Year 6 to see it finished. We are now planning on laying the pavers over the school
holidays so hopefully our Year 6 students can come back in the New Year to see their names etched in the
school grounds.
If any of our school parents have the necessary skills to help lay the pavers and have time to do so in
January, please contact the school office asap or email [email protected] . Thanks very much. We
will pay for your services. We'd also like to thank a very generous school parent who has stepped forward
and made a sizable donation to help fund this job. Thank you for your time and financial support, you are
truly appreciated.

Staff vs. Year 6 : Basketball & Netball 2016
This year the staff and the year 6 played an excellent and exciting game of basketball and netball. The staff
finished with a victory of 63 to 15, however to year 6, all that matters is that you had fun and tried your
hardest.
Thanks to all the students for watching and cheering for your team and a very special thanks to Mr Wayne
Smith, who gave up his own time to play for the teachers as their “Secret Weapon.” Of course, towards the
end of the game Mr Smith had a relaxing sit-down on the court.
Big thanks to Mrs Maria Pyne for supplying newly grown vegetables as the game when on. Mr Peacock was
the real deal for the teachers even scoring a three pointer mid game.
Thanks to Cooper Hornby for being the referee at the basketball game and Claudia Lovell and Sophia
Perkins for umpiring the netball game.
And finally thanks to Kalan and Alexander for taking the pictures and writing this article.

Year 6 Farewell
On the 8th of December, Year 6 celebrated the ending of their primary school days in style at Kareela Golf
Club for their farewell. First we took some photos, then we sat down and watched a presentation. After that
we danced, we sang and we went crazy. It was a smashing success. For dinner we had chicken schnitzel
and for dessert we had cake. A big thankyou to all of the parents that helped decorate, you made the night
amazing. It will definitely be a memory that I will keep forever.

Mini Fete 2016
The Year 6 Mini Fete last Wednesday was a huge success. We had a range of new and modified activities
including Hit the Target, Dance Battles, Basketball Shootout, Mini Golf and more. Altogether we raised a
total of $5,370 which was great for such a small Year 6. Thanks to everyone who donated items for Trash
and Treasure, also thanks to the volunteers who helped at the barbecue. Everyone had a great time! The
money raised will enable the school to purchase a buddy bench for the playground.
