FARMERS OF THE FUTURE Young Farmers Gimmer Lamb Show and Sale on Saturday 30 July 2011
A huge crowd of spectators looked on to watch the farmers of the future prepare and parade sheep at Gisburn Auction Marts
Young Farmers Gimmer Lamb Show and Sale on Saturday 30 July. A total of twenty two farmers entered the show, aged
between two and twenty six years old.
The overall champion was fifteen year old Hannah Chapman, Bewerley, Harrogate, North Yorkshire a pupil of Nidderdale
School and secretary of Nidderdale Young Farmers. Her Texel crossed Cheviot lamb prepared to a very high standard and
perfectly trained for handling caught the eye of the judge, sheep showing guru, Neil Tattersall, Ellerton, York. Miss Chapman’s
lamb went on to sell for £108 to Ian Ibbotson, Oakworth, Keighley, West Yorkshire.
Seven year old Oscar Simpson, Wigglesworth picked up the first prize rosette in the under 11 year old class, with his very smart
Black Texel lamb which later sold for £160 to JT Dobson, Clitheroe, Lancashire. Five year old, William Burnop, Clitheroe, with
another black lamb, fresh from winning at the Great Yorkshire Show two weeks ago, picked up the second prize rosette in the
same class.
Alex Nutter, Higham, Lancashire was awarded first prize in the under 27 year old class. Full of enthusiasm, twenty year old
Miss Nutter caught the judge’s eye with a beautifully prepared Texel Lamb, which sold for £95 to David Stamper, Chipping,
Preston, Lancashire.
Young farmers eagerly await their next show at Gisburn Auction Marts on Saturday 3 December.

Cogent Breeding Pedigree Dairy Show & Sale - 21 July 2011
Lancashire and Cumbrian buyers were out in force at Gisburn auction marts weekly dairy sale, on Thursday 21
July, trade was brisk with over 20 cattle heading north.
Topping the trade was a Karona Bonar heifer, just one week calved from Gordon Beresford, Halton West, Skipton,
she sold for £2380 JJ Crosier, Gisburn, Clitheroe, Lancashire. Another Lancashire farmer, Geoff Blezard,
Hothersall, Ribchester, Lancashire picked up the next best at £2320, a Overside Dictator heifer out of a VG dam
and an EX Grand Dam from Colin Booth, Feizor, Austwick, Lancaster. Again hitting the £2320 mark was Brian
Hall, Gargrave, Skipton with his 35 litre heifer which sold to David Coulthurst, Goosnargh, Preston, Lancashire..
Whytil Final Cut Renske 32 from J & M Singleton & Sons, Goosnargh, Preston, Lancashire sold for £2200 to Tom
Wilson, Rockliffe, Carlisle, Cumbria Close, who went on to pick several more lots, they included a smart black
heifer from Joe Holden, Edgworth, Bolton, Lancashire at £2100 along with another three heifers and three cows at
£2000 and £1920 from John Airey, Chipping, Preston and a Hill Topper Warden cow at £1980 from RM
Shackleton, Broughton, Skipton, North Yorkshire.
In calf heifers for Geordie Parker, Newton, Clitheroe, Lancashire due to the Limousin for late August sold to £1,790
to David Shuttleworth, Gargrave, Skipton, North Yorkshire. Whilst his brother John Shuttleworth, Rylstone, Skipton,
North Yorkshire sold his heifer calves at £380 to Peter Smith, Burnley, Lancashire.
With the calving season underway numbers are expected to continue for the forthcoming weeks.
