Paint the Town Purple during our 4th annual domestic violence awareness month kick-off event.
DCCADV staff, member programs and volunteers will be at 10 local metro stations sharing resources,
information and purple buttons to engage the community in preventing domestic violence. If you’re

D.C. Council Domestic Violence Awareness Month Proclamation Presentation
Wear your purple and join the Council in ringing in Domestic Violence Awareness Month in DC. The
proclamation will be presented at 10 a.m. by Council Chair Phil Mendelson, a longtime champion and
Councilmember Tommy Wells, Judiciary Chair and passionate advocate for victim services. Be there
by 10 am to ensure everyone’s ready for their moment on camera with the Council.

Monday, October 7th
State of Domestic Violence in D.C.
DCCADV will partner with the Howard University, School of Social Work to host a Town Hall
Meeting on Domestic Violence in Washington, DC – Responding to and preventing an
epidemic. The goal of this town hall is to educate the public about the nature of domestic
violence in the District and the community response to this crime.

Survivor Economic Empowerment Workshops
For an entire week DCCADV will hold a series of soft skills training for survivors throughout the
District. The training will focus on empowering women with the skills that they need to
communicate effectively in a workplace environment via telephone, email and social media; as well
as address basic non-verbal communication techniques and proper business attire that will assist
them the interview process and upon gainful employment.

Survivor Economic Empowerment Commencement
To honor the conclusion of our Survivor Economic Empowerment series, DCCADV will hold a
commencement for participants that complete the program. Survivors will receive a certificate and a
starter kit filled with tools to kick start a successful interview process. The commencement will
feature keynote speaker Danella Sealock of NBC4.

Ward 8 Council Against Domestic Violence Walk
The Ward 8 Council Against Domestic Violence will host their annual 3K Walk Against Domestic
Violence. The walk will take place at the THEARC. Registration begins at 9AM, the walk begins at 10

Share Your Story
NVRDC invites and encourages all survivors of crime in Washington, D.C. to come and illustrate their
experience and recovery. A short art therapy workshop will be held, allowing survivors to share their
story through artwork and how crime has impacted their lives. The works will be displayed at
NVRDC’s Rising for Resiliency Fundraiser on November 7th. This event is free and all materials and

Latin@ March and Vigil to Stop Violence Against Women
Latino Agencies United to Stop Violence Against Women hold their the annual Vigil and March in the
Greater Washington DC Metro area for the Latin@ community on Thursday, October 24th. Come
support and help us make noise to educate and create awareness about domestic violence in our
Latin@ immigrant community. The march begins at at Lamont Park in Mt. Pleasant ends in front of

Beyond the Silence Gala
Join DVRP at our “Beyond the Silence: Gala and Monologue Show” to recognize Domestic Violence
Awareness Month. This event will feature monologues illustrating the real experiences of
Asian/Pacific Islander (A/PI) survivors in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. There will be a
cocktail reception, dinner and a silent auction. DVRP will also honor individuals from the community
who have made significant contributions to ending domestic violence in the A/PI community.

Bartending 4 Change will serve it up for the District Alliance for Safe Housing (DASH)'s Annual Fall

Unblurring the Lines: DVAM College Tour
There are no blurred lines when it comes to dating and sexual violence. Throughout the month of
October, the DC Coalition Against Domestic Violence in collaboration with Break the Cycle and the
Network for Victim Recovery DC will be visiting each campus across the District to raise awareness,
share resources and engage student leaders and faculty in the movement to end domestic violence.
