Is it the blue laws of yore? The Puritans staring at one another across a room and children begging to be able to speak or play? A day of worshipping together as a family, feasting around a table, or a Sunday drive? Within our culture the practice of observing a Sabbath has taken many forms. Often, it has been reduced to a list of laws that must be followed- or else! But our hearts seem to pine for something more. We may be in desperate need of rest- searching for it once a year on a vacation that just wears us out even more. Perhaps we feel harried- as if there isn’t time for joy or fun or laughter. Maybe we feel as though God is far away. What if resting in God could happen each day, as part of our rhythm of life? What if we could set aside an entire day for delighting in God’s gifts to us? The good news is that God has called each of us to this rest. This Lent Take Ten to Receive the King’s Invitation to rest in Him. Join us as we explore the Word, be silent, and taste and see that the Lord is good. Dreaming of Spring! Saturday, February 9- noon- potluck garden dreaming and brainstorming session! If you have ideas, dreams for the garden, or just want to hang out, share good food and dream of warmer, sunnier, greener times come and join us. Whether he did this in light of 1st Thessalonians 5:17, where St. Paul writes, “Pray without ceasing,” I do not know, but it kept him honest and faithful to Your holy Word for one cannot hide before You. It is my wish to do the same each month as I reflect upon Your ministry here at Rock of Ages. Every month makes us think of something different. December makes us think of Christmas. July makes us think of Independence Day. February usually calls to mind Valentine’s Day. The day we set aside to show our undying love for that special someone You have given us in our lives. On the church calendar, however, You give us another focal point for this month. On February 13, Ash Wednesday, we remember our own mortality and begin Lent – the forty-day journey in which we remember our Lord’s passion for our redemption. This year, during our midweek services, we will meditate upon those who knew Your Son… Those who witnessed His suffering… Those who were touched by our Lord’s passion in ways we cannot even begin to fathom… Those who were just like us. Bless our time in Your Word! Amen! As we quickly move into the 2nd month of the year, and with the Lenten season just around the corner, your Rock of Ages coed volleyball team is making it's push down the stretch for a big finish to their season. On 1/7, they resumed action with a convincing 25-17, 25-14 win. This was the first match victory of the season for your Purple Power, and the team was clicking on all cylinders! They followed that victory up with a scheduled doubleheader on 1/14. In the night's first match, RoA had to face a team they had aleady lost twice to in 2012. However, the Purple Power gave an outstanding and spirited effort that evening against arguably the league's top team! Despite those efforts, and an amazing come back in the first set, thanks in part to the great serving of Dave Foster, they came up a bit short in a marathon 3-set match, losing 26-24, 16-25, 14-16. However, the 2nd match of that evening had a completely different result, as RoA romped with a 25-9, 25-6 victory over their opponent. So, with 3 matches left in the season, the Purple Power stand with record of 2 wins and 5 losses. However, the team knows it has a great chance to finish with a .500 record, and in the top half of the league. However, most importantly, the team is truly enjoying the fellowship together, and the exercise and fun that comes with it. Join us for our final matches on Monday evenings at Eagleview Middle School, which is located on Vindicator Drive in Colorado Springs. Our next scheduled match is on 1/28, at 8pm. Any questions or further details needed, please contact Jim Kuehnert or Dave/Kim Foster. Lord's Blessings to you for the month ahead, and get out and enjoy His wonderful creation. (Just dress warm!) He asked me what the dark circles were. "Knotholes," I replied. "Well," he said, "if they are not holes, what are they?” Blitzen, Rudolph, and Olive. Olive isn't as famous but everyone sings about her in Rudolph's song: "Olive, the other reindeer...." A Sunday school teacher asked her class to draw pictures of the Nativity scene. One child's version included the three Wise Men plus a very fat Including Rudolph, how many reindeer does Santa man. Asked who the fourth man was, the child innohave?
