About this event
Korea remains the third largest source country for
Australia’s international education sector, behind
China and India. As such, Korea is an important
market for Australian education providers and one
which offers opportunities for institutions to
diversify their international education markets.
Austrade will revert to the stand-alone exhibition
for 2017 following careful review of feedback from
all participants from the Korea Study Abroad Fair
2016. One of the key drivers is that we have
greater control in targeting and attracting well
qualified prospective students to the event.
Austrade Korea will run an intensive and targeted
PR campaign in the lead up to the event with the
objective of aligning visitors with the various
subsectors and participating providers. The new
promotional outreach will include targeted online
viral marketing, blogs and a social media
campaign, to promote the event and participating
institutions.

Market insights
 In December 2016, 30,561 Koreans enrolled in Australia, an increase of 7% YTD. At a sectoral level, VET
student enrolments account for 53% of all students, Higher Education 17%, ELICOS 24% and schools
making up 4%.
 Korea is an important market for Australian education providers and one which offers opportunities for
diversification.
 Australia is the third most preferred study destination for Korean students after China and the United States.
Compared to the United States and the United Kingdom, Australia is regarded as country that is both safe
and affordable, and offers internship and work opportunities for students. The streamlined visa application
process has also lifted Australia’s popularity.
 Interest among Korean students to up-skill as they prepare to enter the job market has increased and the
Post-Study Work Visa scheme has been received positively by Koreans who are keen to obtain work
experience whist studying abroad. The schemes attractiveness is expected to generate growth for the higher
education sector; particularly at the postgraduate level (Postgraduate courses are shorter than
undergraduate courses and students can obtain a longer period of Post-study work).
 After their working holiday experience a significant number of Korean working holiday makers convert to a
student visa in order to undertake VET or ELICOS study.
 The depreciation of the Australian dollar over the past 2-3 years has resulted in increased study enquiries
and contributed to Australia’s competiveness in comparison to the United States and the United Kingdom.

FULL PAYMENT: Payment of the full amount must be paid by the date specified in the invoice.

payment by the applied deadline will result in the forfeit of your reserved place on the event.
