If a cow laughed, would milk come out of her nose? Whatever happened to Preparation A through G? And remember: When you put the words "The" and "IRS" together it spells "THEIRS"! AUGUST, 2008 ORIGINAL HOBO BAND NEWSLETTER According to many learned psychologists, playing classical music for a child will have a certain effect on the psychological growth of that child, depending on the composer and the particular piece being listened to. The following effects have been thoroughly documented: Mozart Effect: playing classical music to your children raises their IQ. Cage Effect: A child is sometimes quiet for 4 minutes, 33 seconds, and then pretends he's been having a conversation with you. Liszt Effect: Child speaks rapidly and extravagantly, but never really says anything important. Brahms Effect: Child plagiarizes so forcefully that onlookers marvel at his learning, scholarship, and of course, force. Bruckner Effect: Child speaks very slowly and repeats himself frequently. Gains reputation for profundity. Wagner Effect: Child becomes a megalomaniac. May eventually marry his sister. PAGE 3 I wondered why the baseball was getting bigger. Then it hit me. Police were called to a day care where a threeyear-old was resisting a rest. Did you hear about the guy whose whole left side was cut off? He's all right now. The roundest knight at King Arthur's round table was Sir Cumference. The butcher backed up into the meat grinder and got a little behind in his work. To write with a broken pencil is pointless. When fish are in schools they sometimes take debate. The short fortune teller who escaped from prison was a small medium at large. A thief who stole a calendar got twelve months. Mahler Effect: Child continually screams - at great length and volume - that he's dying. A thief fell and broke his leg in wet cement. He became a hardened criminal. Verdi Effect: Child continually screams. Schoenberg Effect: Child never repeats a word until he's used all the other words in his vocabulary. Sometimes talks backwards. Eventually, people stop listening to him. Child blames them for their inability to understand him. Thieves who steal corn from a garden could be charged with stalking. We'll never run out of math teachers because they always multiply. When the smog lifts in Los Angeles, U .C.L.A . Webern Effect: Child. Babbitt Effect: Child gibbers nonsense all the time. Eventually, people stop listening to him. Child doesn't care because all his playmates think he's cool. The math professor went crazy with the blackboard. He did a number on it. The professor discovered that her theory of earthquakes was on shaky ground. PAGE 4 ORIGINAL HOBO BAND NEWSLETTER AUGUST, 2008 No, I don’t really know why I’m here… But my ears always itch when I’m supposed to play. I know we have more toys than this… I found ‘em, but the one yesterday was this big… I think I’ll just sleep this one out. We’re just SO happy to be here, thanks for asking! AUGUST, 2008 ORIGINAL HOBO BAND NEWSLETTER PAGE 5 Hey! Are you laughin at me? You think I’m funny-lookin’? Just look in a mirror, fella… Is that whatcha do with that thing?
