I have been lucky enough to have been given a great bunch of kids to coach. They have had some big games and when the pressure has been put on them by the opposition, the kids have stood up and had some fantastic wins. I could not single out any one player that stands out because every single one of them has contributed at one time or another which is great to see. I would also like to thank the parents that have helped out over the past few weeks. Without your help it would be extremely hard to have the games and training run so smoothly. ??? What a great start to the season. We started with 10 players, then gained 1 at the trial game only to have 3 change teams after this. Getting the first game under our belt was fun, we lost a lot of wickets which eventually would cost us the match. The team as a whole took a lot from this and now have grown both individually and as a team . We have won the next 4 straight, not by any extravagant margins except for one, which shows our team grading is good, but the fact that the team comes prepared to play and play as a team rather than individuals Under 10 White With 9 of the 11 boys having their first season of red ball cricket, we have found playing in the Red competition quite challenging as we try to find our feet, so to speak on the cricket field. As a coach, I’m really aiming for the players to focus their batting on the basics of playing straight, watching and getting their feet to the ball and having a good defence, rather than looking for quick runs. Our bowling is improving every week, In the first round we gave up 41 sundries and by Round 3 we had the sundries down to 24 then backing that up with 25 sundries in Rd 4, which is a terrific effort by all the players. Our catching has been good and our ground fielding is gradually improving, with still a bit of hard work to do, but to all the players credit they are working hard at training on all facets of fielding. The boys play with great spirit on the field and never give in, regardless of the situation and I am extremely proud of their development thus far. A win isn’t far around the corner. Well done boys Under 10 Red Playing the top team last week we lost but know knowing what to expect the team hope to learn from this loss and be better for that for the next time round and hopefully when we clash in the finals. We have a lot of parent helpers , some who are scoring , some are warming the kids up before batting and bowling and above all supporting our team – The CAMDEN RAMS UNDER 10 GREEN Thankyou to all involved so far in our team and with 6 rounds down and 9 to go until the finals who knows where we will finish but we will have a lot of fun doing it. It has been an excellent start to the season for the 10 Reds. With a good mixture of first time and returning players, we have performed excellently, winning all 4 games against Magpies, Camden White, Cobbitty Narellan and Ingleburn. It has been pleasing to see the enthusiasm shown by the team towards all aspects of the game. The boys work hard at training and always display a willingness to learn. Their efforts have been transferred into the game with great improvement in our fielding and increased range of shot making when batting. Although our opposition struggle to score runs off the bat, we are still bowling too many extras. We are working hard to improve that aspect of our game. I would like to thank the parents for their support and their enthusiasm on game day. We have a good foundation for a solid season ahead and I am looking forward to see how it progresses. Team Reports Under 11 Blue I am very proud of the way our boys have responded as we step up to Division 1 for the season. We have certainly faced some strong opposition early in the season, with the teams we have played in rounds 1-4 currently sitting in the top four positions on the ladder! Our boys have trained hard and enjoyed being able to train at a Division 1 level, expertly supported by Benham Dodd and his training assistants. It is very encouraging for me to see our players in Camden Blue start to gel together on the field and being able to celebrate some great achievements out in the middle each week. We secured our first victory for the season in Round 3, with Cooper Mangan hitting the winning runs off the second last ball of the match - Cooper delighted his team mates (who were all huddled together nervously on the boundary) with his ‘James Faulkner’ style celebrations! With the ball, we have already witnessed two lots of three wicket hauls by our bowlers: Wyatt Taylor in Round 2 (3 for 10, off 3 overs) and Hunter Nicholson in Round 4 (3 for 5, off 4 overs). Jacques Peenz has been impressive in all aspects of the game and looks set for a strong season. A special thank you to all our parents for your help this season. Thanks to Tim Constantine, Darrin Nicholson and Sharon Hunt for coordinating scoring and the posting of results. Tim Vanderburg’s guidance of our players on match day has also been greatly appreciated. Thanks also to Matthew James for creating a fantastic ‘Best and Fairest’ trophy that the boys enjoy competing for each week! Dave Under 11 Red Under 12-2 Started the season off well, we have multiple new players who have shown some outstanding talent. The team has gelled really well and have been playing as a cohesive team from day one. Some outstanding performances so far for batting L Wright (33), H Keys (40*) and L Hazlewood (45) And best bowling so far is E Funston 3/7, C Elder 2/5 and J Skalecky 2/10, with L Wright and L Hazlewood showing they are becoming great all rounders. I would also like to thank Kim Bevan as manager and the support that the parents are giving both Kim and myself this season, it doesn't go unnoticed. Under 12-1 Blue The under 12-1 Blues have made a cracking start to the 2015-16 cricket season. With 3 wins and a loss, we are well placed as we near the mid way point of the competition. The off season has seen many of the boys develop their cricketing skills. We’ve seen 3 well made half centuries from Ashton Marsh, Tommy Hentunen and Thomas Noakes. Pleasingly the bowling has been spread across the group with lots of boys taking wickets. We have worked hard on our fielding and the results have been superb with catches run outs and stumpings. This included 3 classic catches from Josh Low in 1 game. Most of all, the boys and parents have come together as a team and love getting out there each week. The highlight may well have been a 2nd innings bonus point achieving 113 off a mere 13 overs!! We are looking forward to seeing the boys finish the season strongly. Round 1: One day Game Camden Red (7-156) def Camden Blue (9-32), Sam Warwick Captain, Declan Q with a lightning quick 30 not out, Sam 22, Jake Schoey 16 and Lyndon retiring 23 no, Sam bowling 0-0 and Jake Schoey 1-1, Austin also in his first game took a magnificent caught and bowled. Round 2: One Day Game Camden Red (7-129) def CobbittyNarellan Yellow (9-60) Jack Losurdo Captain. Jack scoring 18 with the bat, Joel C 16 and Cameron not out on 19, our wicket takers were Joel 2-3, Dylan 2-3 and Lyndon 2-4 and Declan Bushy 1/9, Dylan threw the stumps down from side on at the bowlers end to show his deadly accurate arm. Round 3: Camden Red (3-190) def Magpies (4-102) Jacob Evans Captain. Day one. We bowled very well keeping Magpies to 102 off 44 overs on a lightning quick outfield, Joel 1/6 and Ben 1/12, Declan Q and Lyndon also contributing in the field with a very smart run out. Day 2 saw some awesome batting with and two great milestones, Dylan 50 and Lyndon 53 retired not out with both players batting very well. Round 4: Camden Red (4-141) def Tahmoor Gold (8-83) Captain Austin Ebeling. Day 1 we bowled and fielded well keeping Tahmoor to 8/83 with sundries top scoring, Dylan taking 2/8, Cameron 1/6, jack L 1/8 and Jacob 1/11 Day 2 Ben H finally got a chance to have a stick after breaking his arm, he fought hard on a slow outfield carrying his bat to 46 not out and he was well supported by Sam 13 and Joel 12. Well done to all the boys and the support from parents for a fantastic start to the season and hopefully we can keep our current form to seasons end. Well done. Team Reports Under 14-3 Under 12-1 Red ??? The 12-1 Reds have had a great start to the season, with 4 straight wins, and solid contributions and results from all players, including a number of personal milestones being achieved. Right from the first ball of the season, we saw an opening partnership of 87 between Manoj Weerasingham (44) and Conor Canty (33) in Game 1. Since then, there have been partnerships over 50 in every game, and personal high scores for Lachlan Campbell (36), Conor Canty (33), Toby Schofield (25), Ben Quinnell (24*) and Owen White (19). Not to be outdone by the batsmen, Toby (2/7), Jack Robertson (2/1) and Adam Nicholls (1/2) have also achieved personal best bowling figures. So far, it's our young guns Manoj and Lachlan (both playing up an age group), who are leading the way. Manoj is currently our leading run scorer, with 101 runs at an ave of 33.67, and Lachlan our leading wicket taker, with 6 wickets at an ave of 5, but the other boys are nipping closely at their heals. Owen Cole has been outstanding with both bat and ball, scoring 72 runs and taking 4 wickets in his 3 games, Hayden Tipping has made a couple of handy 15's with the bat, and along with Lochi Kemp, have both taken the stumps out of the ground a few times with good pace and swing. The only sour note to the season so far has been Joel Chillmaid having to watch on from the sideline in a moon boot! But now that the boot is off, and he's back in training, his turn isn't to far away. Under 14-1 Blue Well the 14/1 Blues have had a good start to the season with some tough games - particularly the local battle against the Camden Red side which always is a great tussle. Our team has gelled very well and we have had some great individual performances particularly with the bat with Pat Staunton and Jarrod Tripp leading with the blade. Our bowlers have all chipped in with solid effort and this with our fielding will be the focus for our improvement. I have had some great help from the parents and Ben Gunn my Assistant Coach for the first few games and I just want to thank all the parents and helpers for the start of the season - there will be good results in store for this great team. I have enjoyed coaching these boys. We have set lots of personal targets and we are constantly working on just how we will achieve them. They are very supportive of each other and they really do enjoy each others company. We have had some fantastic performances, Cody Bzadough scored 50 runs in a our first one day game, last week Luke Atherton and Nimesh De Silva held a 120 run partnership. Our Bowling is awesome. The taking of wickets has been evenly spread amongst the team. The boys know how to get through the overs quickly and restrict the batting team. The victories will keep coming because the boys are understanding that when it is their time to step up they will do so with confidence and determination. Under 14-2 Red It’s great to see the boys improving each week and it is very noticeable that they have now raised the bar quite high. Everyone in the team is aware of what is expected of them and knows we believe in team work rather than individual brilliance. All the players get to bowl each game and we keep rotating the batting order in order for all to get an equal opportunity to show off their batting skills. Fitness is one area I have identified we need to work on and is currently being worked on. The team has won three out of four games and the biggest win was in round 4 where we dismissed the best side in the competition for 65 runs. We are currently equal first in the competition and need to keep working hard right throughout in order to be competitive. A big thank you to Rod Feutril for assisting me to manage the side and for turning up at every single training session and match. Peter Obrien has definitely made my life so much easier by scoring every game and entering the mycricket results very faithfully. I must say that I have really enjoyed coaching such a great bunch of boys who bond really well as a team!! Under 14-2 Blue After 4 rounds we are sitting on 19 points with 2 wins, a draw and a loss, comfortably in the top 4. The team has gelled very well and has played some very good cricket so far. Some highlights with the bat include Tom Pinnington 50*, Jaden Gilheany 44, Ethan Clancy 37 and Harry Williams 35. The bowling has also been shared around with Lachlan Roberts (4-8), Ben McDermott (3-3) and Conor Dowling (316) bowling well. The most pleasing part so far is that everyone has played an important role with Courtney Smith, Amber Cubitt, Lachlan Burrows, Ben Walsh and Cameron Ha all scoring runs and takings wickets at important times. We are all looking forward to the rest of the season. Team Reports Under 16-2 Blue It’s early days but I’m impressed with our start to our season. Matt is captaining the team well, our batting looks solid, our line bowling is improving and our encouragement for each other during play is great to hear. Keep working on your game team and we’ll continue to be rewarded. Round 1 v Cobbitty Narellan – Nice first up 1st innings win for the team. We set a tough going total of 96 off 30 overs in heavy conditions at Cut Hill. Some good batting by Aryan with 27no, Lachlan with 17, Oliver with 17 and Jayden Sessions with 12 were our best. We bowled and fielded well to defend our total and bowled Cobbitty all out for 66. Our stars with the ball were Oliver, Matthew & Keegan with 2 wickets each for not many runs. Excellent cricket by all. Round 2 v Collegians – Another 1st innings win for the team. We came up against a well drilled side who set an impressive total of 8/171 off 30 overs. Nick was our star with the ball taking 3/16. We made a shaky start to our run chase, but Lachlan and Aryan managed to steady the ship and put on a 73 run 2nd wicket partnership. Aryan then went on and made a classy 50no retired. Lachlan made a terrific 44 playing some very nice cricket shots and then Oliver took the game away from Collegians late in the game and saw his team home for another win scoring 48no. A really impressive win team, we’re building nicely. Round 3 v Ingleburn RSL – An outright win from the team. We set Ingleburn an impressive target of 6/214 off 50 overs. We looked focused right from ball one and all players contributed to our score. Lachlan again set the innings in motion with a fine 40 and Oliver with a well made 44 is making the number 3 spot his own. Our skipper Matt Saunders scored 29 in the middle order and Zac Zafosnik 26no and Hayden Bell 30no finished the innings off perfectly. With the ball the key instruction was to bowl tight lines and we did that restricting Ingleburn to just 67. Zac was the man with a hat trick taking 3/20. Congratulations Zac! With Ingleburn needing to follow on, we rolled them for 58 in their 2nd innings to win outright. Lachlan was the stand out taking 3 of the last 4 wickets to complete his hat trick with bowling figures of 4/4. Superb work Lachlan! Excellent work team, it’s never easy to roll a team twice in 50 overs. Under 14-1 Red The U14-1Red has come together well as team what a great bunch of boys. We had a positive start to the season but lost our first two rounds. Game one was lost in the second last over of a one day game and game 2 went down to the final ball of the day. Luck wasn’t on our side! This did not deter the lads with a convincing win in round 3. Ethan Brendish 63 and Lachlan Vella 40 not out with a cavalier innings in the final overs. The entire team backed up a dominate batting effort with a bowling and fielding display which was first class. Round 4 was rain interrupted and we just couldn’t get the runs or hang on for a draw. Highlight was Tom Patterson a great day behind the stumps taking two stumping’s and two catches. The boys are training and playing hard and I am sure they will be there in contention at finals time. A big thanks to Mick Brown and Mitch Smith for their umpiring efforts. Under 16-2 Red The u16-2 Red team has had a challenging start to the season. Currently sitting in 6th position out of 8 teams, we have suffered two heavy losses, primarily as our batting has struggled to score at a reasonable rate and we have only had two batters score more than 10 runs in any one innings. If it wasn’t for the performance of our captain, Jeremy (89 runs in 4 innings) the losses would have been worse, it has been made tough with only having 10 players at our disposal. On the upside, the morale in the team is still high and our bowling in general has been tight with many great contributions. This was no more evident in our first win of the season when we defended a score of 63. Hopefully as our batters confidence improves, we will become more competitive as the season progresses Round 4 v Campbelltown RSL – Draw (washout) Under 16-1s After 4 rounds of our competition see's our u16-1 side remain undefeated and leading the competition. We have seen all players contributing to the sides wins. A special mention to our 3 younger players, Ethan Debono, Jakob Eljed and Aryan Kate who have been performing well against older competition. Health & Nutrition Injury Prevention Info proudly supplied by Lifestyle Sports and Physiotherapy Summer in Australia means cricket! Although a non-contact sport, injuries in cricket are very common in all age groups. The pace and intensity of cricket has increased with the advent of T20 cricket – this has trickled through all formats of cricket meaning the physical demands on players are now much higher compared to 20 years ago. There are many factors that contribute to injury; however, some simple strategies can hopefully reduce the impact of injury on a summer of cricket. Type of Injury A direct blow from the ball batting or fielding can result in bone fractures and muscle contusion/bruising. High intensity running when batting or fielding can lead to muscle strain injury, most commonly hamstrings and quadriceps, but also groin and calf. Overuse injuries are also common and most often associated with back injuries, including bone stress fracture to fast bowlers particularly under the age of 24. Injury Prevention and Safety Tips Be prepared Undertake physical training before the beginning of the season. The type of training will depend on the age and level of cricket an athlete is striving for. Inappropriate gym training can increase the risk of injury or affect performance. Warm up adequately before playing/training. Bowlers should also consider warm up strategies during the game after a long break if bowling multiple spells. Cool down and recover well after playing/training – the most significant strategies being rehydration, good nutrition and sleep. Sound batting, bowling, throwing and catching technique can all significantly reduce the risk of injury. Good coaching is vital ! Wear the right gear Wear protective equipment that is well maintained and fits appropriately. In 2015, Cricket Australia adopted the British Standard for helmet safety which is far more stringent in safety and testing standards than previous. This has led to a significant change in cricket helmet design and safety with stronger materials, and redesigned grill attachment points that can no longer be adjusted. A number of significant eye and facial injuries have occurred with wicket-keeping in recent times when ‘keeping up’. Wicket-keepers should consider always wearing a helmet or faceguard, and shatter-proof protective eyewear when keeping up. Health & Nutrition Age and Workload Juvenile fast bowlers are at high risk of bone stress fracture injury, particularly during after growth spurts. During growth spurts, the framework of bone rapidly increases in size, but the internal strength of the bone is reduced as the bone remodels and has to fill in ‘the gaps’. Bone maturity in the spine is not reached until around the age of 23. For example, a 16 year old fast bowler who has just completed a growth spurt can have the same height as a mature adult, able to generate the same pace as an adult, but may have only half the bone strength. Taller and faster bowlers are therefore at higher risk. The following table outlines the current Cricket Australia guidelines for juvenile fast bowlers. ALL bowlers, whether adult or juvenile, need to gradually increase their bowling leading into the cricket season, then balance the amount of bowling completed during games and training to ensure that they are neither bowling too much, or not enough. In general, bowlers should be bowling at least twice per week. Juvenile bowlers in particular should avoid bowling everyday – developing bones and tissue need days off to recover and rebuild. These days can still be used to practice fielding and batting. Talented cricketers are often playing in many teams at anytime with potential club, school and representative cricket. Training and playing everyday of the week, particularly for juvenile fast bowlers can lead to a decline in performance, and increased injury risk. Coaches should have an awareness of these demands on their players and try to balance the need for rest and recovery with playing and training. Other Safety Tips Check that qualified first aid personnel, first aid kits, icepacks are available at all times. Drink adequate water during the days play. Wear a broad spectrum sunscreen, hat and sunglasses when appropriate. Make sure everyone, including coaches, players and parents are aware of the symptoms of heat-related illness. All head injuries should be considered seriously, with a medical review before resume playing or training. With country-style restaurant, old English pub, sports bar,NARELLAN lodging, award-winning gardens and / CAMDEN full wedding and conference facilities, the Camden Valley Inn is much more than just a hotel. Everything about the Camden Valley Inn is impressive – the natural flora and fauna, the clean crisp air and above all, the historic, Tudor-style architecture of the Inn itself. It’s a true country getaway, yet it’s so close to major metropolitan hubs in New South Wales and the ACT. Upholding a fine reputation for exquisite amenities and first-class service, the Camden Valley Inn is the perfect blend of country living and luxurious style. There are regular special events and because of its location at the foot of the Razorback Mountains, it’s a pleasant place to visit all year round. If you need to getaway from the grind of the city, have a special occasion or function to host, or simply want to experience something different, head to Camden Valley Inn, with our hotel services and accommodation, and let us take care of you. History of the Inn The Camden Valley Inn was built in the early 1930's, originally as a Milk Bar, but always a popular meeting place for locals. The "Camden Vale Inn", as it was then known, was built to promote the pure and wholesome milk of Camden Park. Their delicious morning and afternoon teas and milk drinks made from the "Gold Top" Camden Vale milk, were fine attractions of the region, as was their impressive Rotorlactor, an automatic milking system, pioneering in its time. Today The Camden Valley Inn still retains its quaint charm and country friendliness in an atmosphere reminiscent of old England. From the outside not much has changed over the years, although the Inn's life has gone from Milk Bar to Restaurant and now to a luxury hotel Inn, after being granted its tavern licence in 1989. The land on which the Inn stands is also steeped in colourful history, being part of the original grant to Captain John and Elizabeth Macarthur in 1805. It was to his Camden Park Estate that Macarthur brought the first Merino sheep and pioneered the great Australian Wool Industry of today. Captain Macarthur was also the first man to make a serious attempt to establish a commercial vineyard in the region, however because of a clash with Governor Bligh, he was banned from the district and forced to move to Europe. In 1817, after studying wine making overseas, Macarthur returned to Australia and went on to produce wine in commercial quantities at Camden Park.
