Project Insights
“Leaving” is a positive step.
Service user has confidence
in their future and is excited
about it.
Service users have a clear
plan to next steps in learning
- return to mainstream
education, training further
education or work.
Service users have clear
goals around maintaining
improvement in health
& wellbeing.
Finding hope.
- Involving the team from the outset meant the project was defined collectively.
- The team, having been integral to defining the project and doing the research to find
the tools they wanted to test, were onboard throughout. We encouraged people to
play to their strengths and self manage.
- Foyer Futures is clearly focused on being a learning service and the use of these new
tools has improved the team’s ability to create manageable boundaries with clients.
- We took time as a team to reflect on the learning, refining, making sense of our
assumptions and the evidence. We realised that we had gone too wide and through
use of the Driver Diagram, set a course for refining the scope of the project.
- It took time to refine what we needed to implement. On reflection we were going through
several PDSAs one after the other. E.g. Developing criteria for choosing the tool(s),
deciding on when to use the tools initially with each young person (after 1 week, 1 month,
etc),deciding on how to gather then fold in feedback from young people to improve delivery,
testing frequency to accurately measure Mental Health & Wellbeing.
Linking learning with
the workplace.
Recognising how they feel.

- The team has improved their understanding of how to measure health & wellbeing
outcomes using WEMWBS and the GIRFEC App with young people and in doing so
has opened up a means of evidencing the dialogue with young people around their
health and wellbeing enabling improved use of the content that comes out of these
conversations.
- In addition it has led to improvements in the ‘Discovery’ stage for young people initially
engaging with the service.
- Introducing the GIRFEC app provides not only a highly accessible tool for measuring
mental health & wellbeing, it also embeds GIRFEC and SHANNARI principles.

“My favourite things about coming
to the Foyer are cooking and gaining
qualifications. I find both of these fun. My
best achievements at the Foyer have been
the Swiss-roll I baked and gaining my Level
1 & 2 Health and Safety Awards. The Foyer
has helped me get qualifications and given
me productive ways to fill my time. Foyer
has also helped me reconsider going back
to school for classes in the base. I would
recommend Foyer Futures to others as it’s
fun and keeps me and my friends out of
trouble. I like that we have gone at my own
pace as I haven’t felt rushed.” – JR
