We extend a warm welcome to all who attend one of our
beautiful Churches today. We are so happy you are with
us here today. We hope you will find our community a
place where your faith will be nourished. We also hope
you will share your special gifts with us. Your prayers, your
presence and your talents are most welcome. To become a
member of one of our Parishes, please contact our Parish
Office. Our contact information is on the front of the
bulletin.
For the past couple of Mother’s Day, I have shared a Calvin
and Hobbes cartoon. Thought I’d do it again this year.
Happy Mother’s Day Mom! I hope you have a great day.
While some may lament that Mother’s Day is another
“Hallmark” day, I like the day because it is a great
reminder to reflect on the strong role our mothers play in
our lives. I once heard it said that mothers are very much
the first example of deep love we have in life, and in a
very dear way, our mothers and fathers bring to us the first
example of our loving God in our lives.
PRAYER FOR OUR BISHOP-ELECT THOMAS:
Lord our God,
you have chosen Thomas as a successor to the Apostles,
to be a shepherd of your flock in the Diocese of Davenport,
grant him, we pray,
a spirit of counsel and fortitude,
a spirit of knowledge and piety,
so that, by faithfully governing
the people entrusted to him,
he may help build your Church
as a sign of salvation for the world.
Through Christ our Lord….AMEN
Think about it. More than likely, it was your mom that
taught you your first words, eased your fears and laid out
the right and wrongs for you as you began your life’s
journey. (Even in High School my mom laid out my clothes!)
You might still turn to Mom for advice with your life. Our
mothers are beautiful gifts in our lives.
Our Blessed Mother guided Christ in his early life, and
stood by as He suffered and died. Surely, her steadfast
love was a source of great comfort to our Lord, and her
faith a guiding light to the disciples following Christ’s
resurrection.
I hope you too can see your mom and pray to God for her
continued health and strength. And if the relationship with
your mom isn’t the greatest, maybe this would be a good
time to pray for her and just ask God to watch over her.
And if your mom has passed on, try to offer a prayer in
thanksgiving for her love to you.
Wishing you a blessed and happy 5th week of Easter!
WISDOM OF POPE FRANCIS:
“But please know, Jesus never lets you down. Please know
that the love and tenderness of Mother Mary never lets you
down. And holding on to her mantle and with the power that
comes from Jesus love on the cross, let us move forward
always forward, and walk together as brothers and sisters in
the Lord forward.”
VOCATIONAL NEWS: 5th Sunday of Easter “How can we
know the way?” Jesus shows us the way. Believer and he will
do great works in you (John 14: 1-12

TODAY IS MOTHER’S DAY: At the end of all Masses this
weekend a carnation will be given to all mothers as a thanks
and positive celebration of life. A special blessing will also
be offered. May God bless all our mothers!
This Mother's Day, let's turn our hearts to Mary, the Mother
of God, the Mother of Jesus and Mother of us all, Christ's
sisters and brothers. With a mother's care she raised her Son
and lived the joys and the grief that only a mother's heart
can know. Whatever our spirits on this Mother's Day
weekend, the Mother of Jesus embraces us all, so let us
pray...
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you.
Blessed are you among women
and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
