NESPRESSO FAQ’S
Why aren’t the Grand Cru Coffee Cups available from QVC and only through the
special Club Plan?
The perfect coffee experience can only be achieved by using the most perfect coffee
possible. The Nespresso Club guarantees the top 1% of the World’s coffee is delivered
directly to you in about 24 hours at a true value cost.
How much do Nespresso capsules cost:
The Nespresso system operates on hermetically sealed coffee capsules, guaranteeing
that each single-portioned espresso is as fresh as the day it was ground. Our Grands
Crus are packaged in what we refer to as sleeves, which contain 10 capsules of a
particular blend.
Our espressos and lungos retail for $6.00 per sleeve of 10 capsules. Our Pure Origin
Grands Crus cost $6.50 per sleeve and our Limited Edition blends and Holiday Variations
are available different times of the year for $6.80 per sleeve. Capsules are available for
purchase in any of our Boutiques locations or directly through the Nespresso Club via
our toll-free number, fax, mail order or online marketplace at www.nespresso.com.
Do Nespresso capsules have an expiration date?
Nespresso capsules do not actually “expire”. Nespresso capsules are hermetically sealed;
protected from light, moisture and oxygen. At the end of every sleeve you will find both
the "Production date" and the “Best before” date. The best before date is
approximately 8-11 months from the date of production. We guarantee that you receive
your capsules between 4-9 months before this date. As the date simply acts as an
indicator of optimal freshness, flavor and aroma, unopened capsules are completely
safe to consume after the "Best before" date.
My machine pours a short cup of coffee. What should I do?
All automatic Nespresso machines have a small and large cup button. If you have the
Essenza, Le Cube, CitiZ or Pixie you can reset your cup buttons like this: with the
machine turned off, press and hold the large cup button while you turn the machine on.
Release the large cup button after 3 seconds. Refer to instruction manual for further
information.
How much caffeine is in each Nespresso capsule?
The caffeine content per brewed espresso capsule will vary between approximately 55
and 65 mg. The lungo blends contain 20% more coffee per capsule; therefore, they have
slightly higher caffeine content, about 77-89 mg. This variation depends mainly on the
green coffee (Arabica vs. Robusta), the degree of roasting and to a lesser extent, the
coffee origin. Our decaffeinated blends contain roughly 0.005 mg of caffeine. There is
no correlation between the assigned "intensity" and caffeine content.
Espresso (1.35 oz/40 ml) --> around 55-65 mg of caffeine
Lungo (3.75 oz/110 ml) --> around 77-89 mg of caffeine
Espresso decaffeinato (1.35 oz/40 ml) --> less than 0.005 mg of caffeine
Lungo decaffeinato (3.75 oz/110 ml) --> less than 0.008 mg of caffeine
How many calories are in each Nespresso capsule?
The calorie content of a brewed espresso is negligible. There are 1260 Kj (300 Kcal) in
100 grams of roasted and ground coffee. Nespresso espresso capsules contain 5.5 grams
of coffee on average, whereas the lungos contain approximately 7 grams of coffee per
capsule. Taking note of the fact that the coffee grounds are not consumed whole but
rather their contents are dissolved in water, the calorie count is even less. A 1.35 oz cup
of espresso contains approximately 0.6 calories while a 3.75 oz lungo contains
approximately 1.0 calorie.
