NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GUIDELINE
ILLEGAL OFFENCE/DEFENCE SYSTEM
The following is the procedure for all Conveners of Minor National Box Championships.
OPERATING POLICY REFERENCE SECTION 17:
1.3.1In all minor box lacrosse (midget & below) it is deemed un-ethical to use an offence/
defence tactic while at even strength and any such action can result in suspensions.
1.3.2If, in any National event, offence/defence is found to be utilized by a participating
coach, they will be suspended for the remainder of the event and their name forwarded to
the appropriate MA or AMA for further action.
GUIDELINES:
Coaches will be considered to be running an illegal O/D system if while playing even strength
they have players playing only at only one end of the floor in an offensive or defensive role.
Coaches will not be considered running an illegal system when utilizing a set man short or
a set power play in either the offensive or defensive mode.
Coaches will not be considered running an illegal system when utilizing a set 3-2 line change
tactic.
The third referee that is in the penalty box will make the call if the coaching staff is using
O/D. The on-floor referees would warn the coaching staff once reported to them by the third
referee. If the coaching staff continues using O/D the head coach would be given a game
misconduct and would have to attend a discipline hearing prior to the team’s next game. In
all cases the reported action should be investigated and a report handed in with the game
sheet.
If the suspected illegal tactic is being reported by the above persons during round robin
play and a positive infraction is in doubt, the convener may determine the coach needs to
warned and the next game watched. If the illegal action occurs in any other game, then
1.3.2 will apply.
Conveners are to advise team coaches during the pre-tournament coaching meeting to
report any suspicion of this illegal tactic by any opponent during their game to the convener
through their team representative.
