Nearest 100
Numbers are rounded off to reach quick conclusions.
Rounded off numbers are not accurate but give you a
good “sense”.
There are 206 children who went to watch the basketball
match. We would round this off to say about 200 children
went to watch the basketball match.
There are some rules on rounding off numbers.
Rule: If the last digit of the number you are rounding off is less
5 – then don’t change the number.
Example1: 430 rounded off to the nearest 100 is 400
Example2: 438 rounded off to the nearest 100 is still 400
Rule: If the last digit of the number you are rounding off is
more than or equal to 5 – then round up the number
(increase value by 1).
Example1: 470 rounded off to the nearest 100 is 500
Example2: 475 rounded off to the nearest 100 is still 500
