KITIGAN ZIBI-(Maniwaki, Quebec), July 8, 2014: Gino Odjick former NHL player from Kitigan Zibi
Anishinabeg is in a fight for his life; battling serious health issues. The friends and supporters of his First
Nation community and the town of Maniwaki have gathered behind Gino Odjick to show their love and
support by declaring July 25, 2014 “GINODAY- JOURNÉE GINO-GINOKIJIGAD”. On this day, a Golf
Tournament will be held at the Club de Golf Algonquin, located in Messines, Quebec and a Music Event
at L’Auberge du Draveur, located in Maniwaki, Quebec. Special guests have been invited to attend this
event and anyone wanting to join in this day of support to Gino Odjick is welcomed to participate.
The day’s proceeds will go to a trust fund that has been set up through the RBC (Royal Bank of Canada)
that will provide funds for Gino’s medical care and support for his family. Any additional funds will go
towards a foundation created in Gino’s name whose purpose is to further the education, athletic
development, and empowerment of Aboriginal youth in Canada.
If you wish to donate you can do so by going to any RBC branch and informing them you would like to
contribute to the ‘Gino Odjick Trust’.
Other possible events are also being planned for the near future. John Chabot, former NHL player and
also a member of Kitigan Zibi has expressed interest in organizing an NHL alumni benefit game in Gino’s
honour for August. More information will be forthcoming as it becomes available.
