World Day of Migrants and Refugees “I Was a Stranger and You Welcomed Me” “I Was a Stranger and You Welcomed Me” is the title of the Pastoral Letter released in October 2015 by the Episcopal Commission for Justice and Peace of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. Canadian Catholics more than ever before need to be aware of the current situation. The United Nations estimates more than 60 million people around the world have been forced to flee their homelands because of persecution, conflict and war. Individually and as a community of faith, we can make a difference in the lives of refugees through prayer, support and sponsoring families. Welcoming the stranger, as Jesus teaches in Matthew 25.35 is not an option but a Gospel requirement. When we do this, “we open our doors to God.” Pope Francis reminded us in his 2016 Message for the World Day of Migrants and Refugees. The immense and unprecedented refugee crisis is heartbreaking and urges us to action. Every single day, desperate people try to cross a vast ocean of indifference as refugees. Though often treated as a problem or a simple concern, to us they are our brothers and sisters who need our help now. May they find support and grace for their efforts towards those in need. We also ask your to bless the collaboration between all priests and laity working within parishes. All this we ask in Jesus name. Amen Pray For Our Sick. Father of goodness and love, hear our prayers for the sick members of our community, especially, Skip Eckensweiler, The Pierik Family, Paul Weber, Harold Dentinger, Joan Miller, Clara Ruetz, Lloyd Gutscher, Ron Chesney, Tony Wagner, Fr. David Weise, Marilyn Cassidy, Ray Giesler, Bill Seigner Sr., Robert Gay, Carolyn Weise, Alf Kieffer, Rob Lambertus, Rosemary O’Hara, John Garvey, Paul Dales Jr., Rob Schurter, Marlene Self, Gerald Grubb & Florence Bross and for all who are in need. Amid mental and physical suffering may they find consolation in your healing presence. Show your mercy as you close wounds, cure illness, make broken bodies whole and free downcast spirits. May these people find lasting health and deliverance, and so join us in thanking you for all your gifts. We ask this through the Lord Jesus who healed those who believed. Amen. The Municipality of Brockton and the Walkerton fire department are trying to remind home owners to test their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms monthly. Ensuring that the battery is fresh and that the alarm is in operating condition is a quick easy way to ensure that you and your family will have the time needed to exit the building in the case of a an emergency. If you or someone you know may have difficulties conducting the alarm tests or have questions regarding how many alarms are needed or where they should be located the Fire Prevention Officer would be happy to conduct a smoke alarm check free of charge upon request or answer any questions you may have.
