Mental Health Awareness Week

Mental Health Awareness Week
2016
Programme of Events
What is Mental Health?
We all know the importance of a good diet and exercise routine to ensure
our body is working correctly. But we also need to look after our minds too.
Your mental health is an important part of your overall wellbeing and how
you function in your life as a whole. Your mental health affects how you
think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how you handle stress, relate to
others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life,
from childhood, adolescence and through adulthood.
Over the course of your life, if you experience mental health problems,
your thinking, mood, and behaviour could be affected. Learning to look
after our mental health will help you in times of stress in the future.
Why a Mental Health Week?
This is the first Mental Health Awareness Week in St. Columba’s College.
There are various activities organised for everyone in the school community
this week. We simply want to raise an awareness of the importance of
looking after ourselves – not just our body but our mind as well. Hopefully
we all will learn something new this week – maybe just one little thing that which will help us learn to cope in times of difficulty and stress.
Our Motto This Week
It’s OK not to feel OK and it’s absolutely OK to ask for help

Who can I talk to?
When you are going through a tough time it is really important to find
someone you trust to talk to. This can be a friend, family member,
house staff, teacher, guidance counsellor or Matron. The simple act of
talking about how you are feeling will really help you work through
your problem.
