Art and Design
Children will be drawing in the style of
Giuseppe Arcimboldo- famous for his
fruit and vegetable portraits.

Where does my
food go?
Music
In small groups, children will
compose ‘The digestion story’
using percussion instruments. They
will consider well known ‘food
songs’- learning and performing
their own composition.
Maths
Children will recognise the place value of each digit in a
four-digit number (thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones).
They will order, round and compare numbers beyond 1000.
Using lengths of different digestive organs, children will
solve number and practical problems. They will calculate
time taken for food to travel through the digestive system.
Science and DT
In Science, children will be describing the route of
food and how it travels through the human body.
They will explain how each part of the digestive
system works in humans.
In Design & Technology, a healthy food product will
be designed by the children, after analysing fooddescribing its appearance, smell, taste and texture.
They will understand the needs and preferences of
consumers.
PE
read Roman numerals to 100 (I to C) and know that
over time, the numeral system changed to include the concept of zero and
place value.
During gymnastic sessions, children will learn
about the different shapes their bodies can make
in the air. In games, they will develop their control
when travelling with the ball, whilst also being
able to strike accurately at targets.
RE
Children will develop their understanding of the
Church as a community of believers from all races
and nationalities.
French
Children will prepare and perform simple
presentations of imaginary animals.
Key Stage 2
English
During the unit, children will write their own
explanations of the digestive system. They will
create their own food stories, describing the
journey using paragraphing and a range of
conjunctions.
They will also create their own food poems,
exploring free verse.
Music
PSHE/SRE
 Harvest songs
Children will learn how to make
 Composition (song)
someone feel welcomed and valued at
school. They will know what it feels like
to be unwelcome. They will be able to
use a problem-solving process to solve a
problem.
Computing
Childen will create frames of an
animation based on the digestion
process and stitch them together in
sequence.
