Dear Examiner
I am writing to invite you to act as an External Examiner for Taught programme(s) at the
University of Nottingham in the session 2014/15. Details of the course(s), the fee payable
and the name of the Head of the School concerned are attached.
An information sheet has also been attached providing links to fees and expenses
information, eligibility to act as an external examiner, and University policy on Appointment
and Responsibilities of External Examiners. I would particularly draw your attention to your
eligibility to accept an appointment as external examiner. Please inform the University upon
receipt of this letter if you do not have the right to work in the UK. The University needs to
ensure that you are eligible to fulfil your role as an external examiner so that Home Office
requirements can be fulfilled.
The Head of School will provide you with additional material regarding the programme, such
as syllabuses and marking schemes, and will arrange a briefing meeting. The School will also
inform you of dates for Examination Board Meetings.
The appointment is renewable annually up to a normal maximum of four consecutive years’
service subject to satisfactory fulfilment of responsibilities including timely receipt of reports
and you will be sent an appointment letter at the beginning of each year of service.
If you are also appointed to act as External Examiner for programmes at either one or both of
the University of Nottingham’s overseas campuses in Malaysia and Ningbo, the University
requests that you provide a judgement on the comparability of quality and standards of
provision and performance across all relevant locations.
