Hit-a-thon and Home Run Derby Fundraiser

Hit-a-thon and Home Run Derby Fundraiser
Dear ECYB families,
We are pleased to announce the second annual El Cerrito Youth Baseball (ECYB) Hit-a-thon
and Home Run Derby which will be held at Cerrito Vista Field on June 10th, 2012 at 2:00 pm.
As you all know ECYB is a non-profit organization run completely on volunteer time and
commitment.
We hope that all ECYB players commit to raise at least $100.00 for the league. Although ECYB
has had a very successful fundraising campaign this year, our operating expenses still exceed
our revenues. These much needed funds will go toward upgrading our aging fleet of team
equipment, as well as to help pay for our uniforms, field permits, umpire expenses, and
scholarships to families in need. The events will also give our players and families one last
chance to enjoy the camaraderie developed over the course of the season in a fun competition.
In addition to the Hit-a-thon, ECYB will also be hosting a barbecue and Home Run Derby. Food
will be provided for the Hit-a-thon participants and available for purchase to the public. Prizes
will be awarded to top fundraisers. The Grand Prize will go to the top fundraising individual or
family. Prizes will also be awarded to the top fundraising team and the top fundraising player
from each division. Prizes to be announced.
The Home Run Derby will not be part of the fundraising, but all players need to participate in the
fundraiser to be eligible to compete in the Home Run Derby. See the Rules sheet for Rules of
the Hit-a-thon and Home Run Derby. Home Run Derby trophies will be awarded to the top three
finishers in each division.
Please fill out and return the form below ASAP to let ECYB know you will be participating:

RULES OF HIT-A-THON and HOME RUN DERBY
JUNE 10, 2012; 2:00 pm @ Cerrito Vista Park
In order, by division, starting with Shetland and ending with Pony
HIT-A-THON
Each child is expected, with the help of their families, to obtain pledges of sponsorship
for the longest hit ball they hit off a Tee. The Tee will be placed at home plate at either
one of the Pinto division fields or at the Big Field at Cerrito Vista Park. The distance will
be measured from home plate to where the ball comes to rest. (Some teams may do
their Hit-a-thon tee hitting early this year with the assistance of their team’s
coach. Please stay tuned and please start fundraising early.)
All players should come in their ECYB Team uniform and bring their own bats. Batting
helmets and division appropriate balls will be provided. Players must check in at the
registration table and bring TWO (2) copies of their completed pledge forms to the event
to indicate how much money per foot has been pledged to each player. After
completing the hits, players need to check out with officials to document and confirm
their official hit distance and pick up their copy of the pledge form for collecting pledges.
The number will be necessary to calculate the total pledge amounts.
The longest of three hit balls (on the ground or in the air) will be recorded as the official
distance for the player to use in collecting sponsorship monies. The total distance will
be multiplied by the dollar pledge amount for each donor in order to determine the total
amount raised per player. After the event the players and families will be responsible
for collecting the pledges and returning them to ECYB by June 30th, 2011. All checks
are payable to ECYB.
Each player is required to participate in the Hit-a-thon to be eligible for the Home Run
Derby. Every player to raise at least $100 will receive a cool T-shirt to commemorate
their experience. Prizes (to be announced) will be awarded to the top fundraisers.
Grand Prize will be awarded to the Top Fundraiser in the League.
A team prize will be awarded to the Top Fundraising Team.
Prizes will also be awarded to the Top Fundraiser in each Division.
Prizes will be awarded after all the pledge sheets have been tallied.
Please email completed form to [email protected] or fax to 510-527-5700.

HOME RUN DERBY
Each player must participate in the Hit-a-thon or pay a $50 admission fee to participate
in the Home Run Derby. The Home Run Derby will start after the Hit-a-thon and will be
held on the “Big Field” at Cerrito Vista.
The Derby will not be part of the fundraising for ECYB. Trophies will be awarded to the
top three finishers in each division. Awards will be given out after the conclusion of the
events.
Hitters will have the choice of hitting either: off a Tee, by pitching machine (provided by
the league), or by coach/player pitched balls provided by the participant.
The hitter will have five (5) outs to hit as many balls as possible over a preset division
appropriate marked distance/”fence”. Each time the ball goes over the line, it will count
as a “home run.” If a hit ball does not pass the “home run” line in the air, it will count as
an out. Strikes and foul tips will not count as outs. Ground balls, pop flies that DON’T
cross the line, and forward hit foul balls will count as outs.
This competition will be counted by number of valid “home runs”, NOT by distance. In
the event of a tie, there will be a hit-off to decide the winner of the division. In the hit-off,
each player will receive three (3) outs. All the same rules apply. If after 3 outs there is
still no winner the distance of the home run shall determine the finishing order.
There will be a division for each ECYB division of play. In addition, there will be an
open class, which will include High School players. There will also be a masters
division which will include adults.
ECYB will be offering the Silver slugger award to the child, in which ever division, who
hits the most home runs during the competition.
