INTREPID EXPLORERS WANTED!

INTREPID EXPLORERS WANTED!
Are you ready for a trip to the rainforest? Do you know a fig tree from a vine? Do you know Yanomami from Huli tribes? Do you know
poisonous arrow frogs from tree frogs?
For your homework, you are going to become a specialist in your chosen area of the rainforest. You must use all the resources available
to you – internet, libraries, museums, even parents!
In order to become a specialist, you are required to complete at least one task. It should be done to a high standard, ready to share with
other specialists at the Redlands Rainforest Convention!
Geologist – Can you locate all the rainforests in the world?
What are they called? What are the rivers called? Are their
climates the same or different? Perhaps you could make an
information booklet to present these ideas?
Naturalist – What plants and animals can be found in the rainforest?
How do they survive? What do the animals eat? Do they live in tribes
or alone? How do they find their food? What are the layers of the
canopy called? Which fungi kill which insects? You could present all
your knowledge on a poster!
Explorers – What will you need to survive in the jungle? What
plants can you eat? What plants are poisonous? How do you
survive? What supplies do you need? What dangers are
there? Maybe you could make a video demonstrating your
knowledge?
Anthropologists – What people live in the rainforest?
What traditions do they have? What do they eat? What
do they wear? What age do they live until? Do they have
medicine? You could make a replica of their costumes to
show at the convention!
Gastronomists – What food is grown in the rainforests?
What is the food used for over here? How does it get
here? Is it healthy? Why? Perhaps you could cook a dish
made with rainforest foods? Or design a rainforest menu!
Remember, you don’t have
to do the suggestions on
this page! You can explore
any of your ideas ready to
share at the conference!
