Quids In - Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council

Appendix 1
Date as Postmark
Dear Applicant/s:
Thank you for your interest in ‘Quids In’.
We are a youth funding initiative, responsible
for the distribution of the Youth Capital and the
Youth Opportunity Funds for Rotherham. These
funds are available as the result of a new
Government initiative following publication of
the Youth Matters Green Paper in 2005.
Both the Youth Capital and the Youth Opportunity
funds are aimed at helping disadvantaged young
people, and a set of criteria has been drawn up
which any application will need to meet. These
criteria are enclosed with this pack. Please note
applications need to be from young people.
An application form is enclosed with this letter,
as well as other useful information to help you
to complete the form.
If you have any queries, please get in touch by
texting to
0776 672 8996, or e mail to

How to fill in the application form
Section A
We need contact details for one young person and
a supporting adult involved in making the
application. Please make sure that you can be
contacted during the school holidays. This is so
we can contact you to ask you any necessary
questions regarding your application in order to
help the panel make decisions.
Section B
This section has been divided into 2: B1 for
groups and B2 for individuals.
When filling the form in, tell us exactly what
you want to do as part of your project or
activity, also make sure you tell us how you
think your project/activity meets the criteria.
Any other information can also be included with
your application. This could be in any form:
photographs, drawings or even a video/DVD
presentation.
Section C
Tell us what you want to spend the money on. Try
to be as detailed and accurate as possible e.g.
if it costs £500 to do a dance project for 10
weeks, don’t just put ‘Dance = £500’. Put
something along the lines of ‘Dance x 10 weeks x
25 young people = £500’.
The application has been designed to be
straightforward and easy to complete. However,
if you do have difficulty with any part, please
get in touch. As long as you have clear ideas of
what you want and how much will it cost, then
we’ll help you complete your application as
appropriately as we can.
Please return your application form as soon as
possible to avoid any hassle.
How will decisions be made?
A group of young people who have received
training will meet regularly to go through the
applications and check them against the criteria
which have been set by the ‘Quids In’ group.
The criteria are:
The ideas for the project/activity must be
totally by young people aged 13-19.
The group or project must benefit young
people.
The applicant/s must be in the 13-19 age
range.
Equality is promoted in the group or project.
The group or project must benefit
disadvantaged young people.
The group or project must be young person
lead (with adult support if necessary).
The group or project must benefit young
people who live, learn or work in Rotherham
The group or project must contribute towards
the ‘Every Child Matters’ Outcomes.
There must be a local need for your group or
project.
The funding is available to both groups and
individuals.
There may be only 1 application per year from
any one group or individual.
There is no maximum you can apply for, but
the minimum is £200.
What are the YOF and YCF?
YOF is the Youth Opportunity Fund and YCF is the
Youth Capital Fund. Money from the YOF and YCF
has been given to RMBC (Rotherham Metropolitan
Borough Council) in order to pay for activities
and needs of young people living, learning or
working in Rotherham.
One major and important criterion regarding the
fund is that young people must be the key
decision makers about where and how the fund is
spent.
These funds were first proposed in the Youth
Matters Green Paper in July 2005, and must
support the Every Child Matters outcomes.
YOF is available for individuals and groups to
provide positive opportunities and to benefit
young people. It can also be used to break any
barriers that may stop young people succeeding.
However, the panel have agreed not to finance
applications where funding, supported with
possible supplementary criteria, may be available
from elsewhere. i.e. requests for assistance for
further education/college expenses or other
similar requirements.
YCF is available to support the provision of new
activities and is appropriate for any capital
projects e.g. a new building, youth shelters or
any restoration projects.
The funding is available for 2006/7 and 2007/8
only and the amount available each period is
shown below:
Youth Opportunities Fund: £178,187
Youth Capital Fund:
£154,118
Total:
£332,305
