Intensive English Program - Western Wyoming Community College

Western Wyoming Community College provides intensive English language classes for
international students who wish to improve their English ability. Students may complete the
ESL program and begin regular WWCC coursework, transfer to another college or university,
or return home to use their enhanced English ability.
Summary
Western Wyoming Community College is committed
to providing a high standard of English instruction in
our English as a Second Language program (ESL).
Classes are small, and students receive a great
deal of individual attention. Almost all of our ESL
students continue into the regular college program
or transfer to another college and enter their regular
program. We value having international students on
our campus, and we encourage you to begin your
educational career in the United States at WWCC. We

English as a Second Language (ESL) courses concentrate on preparing students to speak, write and understand the English language at a level that allows them to succeed in regular college coursework taught in English. Students also learn helpful study techniques for attending college in the United States.

Fall courses include English as a Second Language (a writing and grammar class), Non-Native Conversation or U.S. Culture and Communication, Business English, and other self-paced courses such as Listening and Vocabulary. Spring courses include each of the Fall semester courses and Non-Native Pronunciation.

Students may pursue a 14 credit ESL certificate or a one-year International Business/ESL Certificate at WWCC. These certificates document completion of a curriculum that improves English speaking and writing ability and provides an intermediate level of English. The International Business/ESL Certificate documents a program of study that includes business course content and vocabulary, and advanced business and technology.

Non-refundable application fee of $100 made payable to WWCC.

Official high school and any college transcripts (if transfer
equivalency is requested) translated to English. Attested copies are accepted.
Western Wyoming Community College (WWCC) offers an
Intensive English Program (English as a Second Language, ESL)
for students who wish to study English full-time or for those who
are fairly proficient, but need to build their skill through a class
or two while taking regular college classes. The Intensive English
Program (English as a Second Language, ESL) is a great choice for
any of the following students:

The Campus
and the Surrounding Area
n Western Wyoming Community College is located in Rock Springs, Wyoming (population 19,000).
n Total college enrollment is 4095 (1325 full-time students). WWCC has approximately 40 international students.
n
The nearest airport is in Rock Springs (Sweetwater County) (15 minutes from campus). Connecting flights are available from Denver International Airport in Colorado and Salt Lake City, Utah.
n Rock Springs is served by Greyhound bus service; 3 hours
drive from Salt Lake City, Utah and 6 hours drive from Denver, Colorado.
n Summer temperatures average 70-82 F (17-28 C). Winter
temperatures average 11-40 F (-12 to 5 C) with some snow.

Students must submit a $6750 deposit for their semester costs. This deposit must be paid either before the student arrives on campus or immediately upon arrival. Annual cost of attendance is about $14,000. Students should budget additional funds for incidentals and personal expenses including meals off campus, and entertainment.
• Payment may be made by international money order,
traveler's checks, checks drawn on a U.S. bank, or direct wire transfer.
WWCC requires documentation of English ability: Official SAT score report or TOEFL score of 500 regular / 173 computer / 61 iBT or STEP Eiken Grade 2A or Cambridge ESOL exam or IELTS 5 for regular course enrollment.
Any prospective student who scores less than 97 on the TOEFL,
must start in ESL courses. Course requirements will be determined
through further testing when the student comes to campus.
Students who have not taken the TOEFL exam, must show that
they have had some level of English instruction and provide proof
of coursework. They will enter as full-time ESL students.
n
Request official SAT scores (if any) be sent to WWCC. SAT scores are not needed for admission, but are required for academic scholarship consideration and may be considered as documentation of English ability. WWCC's school code is 4957.
n
Financial statement with signed bank statement from the student's or guarantor’s bank stating applicant has available a minimum of $15,000 to cover first year costs, travel and personal expenses.
n
Health statement with a physician’s signature and verification
of inoculation for MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) (submit note from physician or copy of inoculation card).
n
Photocopy of the passport page which lists the student's full name.

When your admissions file is complete, you will be sent an
acceptance letter and Form I-20. The Form I-20 must be
presented to your country’s nearest U.S. Embassy to apply for
an F-1 student visa.
On Campus Housing
(Residence Halls)
Students are not required to live on campus, but
you are strongly encouraged to do so. Students who wish to
arrange for a home stay or live in an off-campus apartment
must make their own arrangements.
During the Fall and Spring semesters, students may be
assigned to apartments or to suite (Residence Hall) units.
On-campus housing during the summer is apartment style,
and students will be responsible for preparing their own
meals.
On-campus meal plans of at least 10 meals per week are
required for all first year students. Second year students
may apply to live in an apartment and prepare their own
meals.
Apply for housing and submit a $150 deposit ($25 is
non-refundable as a processing fee) to reserve on-campus
housing.

n Linens, towels, personal hygiene items. (You may purchase these at a discount store after arrival on campus.)
n Telephone (Phone service is provided and local calls
are free. Students can purchase calling cards for long distance.)

Transportation expenses. There is a bus system that provides fixed route service for a small charge Monday through Friday. Students may want to consider the purchase of a car.
