Uniform…
We pride ourselves at Montbelle in looking smart, staff and
pupils alike, so it’s been a little disappointing to see a little
‘blip’ in uniform standards recently. We’re confident that we
will all begin the new term in April, refreshed and looking
smart in the proper Montbelle uniform (you can find uniform
information on our website); please remember no trainers,
jewellery or nail varnish. Thank you.

From the Acting
Headteacher It seems unbelievable that we are now two
thirds of the way through this academic year! The children,
and staff, have worked incredibly hard this term and we’ve
shared some great learning experiences both in school and in
our wider environment. Whilst everybody is ready for a wellearned rest, we’ve certainly not had a quiet final week with
Year 3 and Year 4 finishing our Spring Term off in style with
their Spring Production, ‘Eddie the Penguin Saves the World’.
The children showed amazing talent in their singing and acting
and showed what each and every one of us can do to help our
planet, from turning off lights, saving energy, recycling and
walking to school - well done to everybody in Year 3 and Year
4! On behalf of the staff, I wish each and every one of you a
relaxing Easter break and we’ll see you all, ready for the
th
Summer Term, on Monday, 11 of April.

Collection of Children from school
We do understand that, on rare occasions, an event beyond
your control will prevent you from arriving at school on time.
Please be reassured, if this does happen, your child/ren will be
supervised by the Office Staff for a period of 15 minutes from
the end of the school day (i.e: until 3.35 for FS and KS1 and
3.45 for KS2); after this time, Alpha Club will provide afterschool care for the children. A charge will apply for this
service.
We have noted that there a number of children for whom late
collection is becoming more frequent; where this becomes the
Clubs
case, we will make arrangements for children to be taken
All clubs, apart from FS/KS1 & KS2 Film Club, still have
directly to Alpha Club if parents are not there at the end of the
places available, if your child would like to sign up for any of
school day. A charge will apply for this service.
the clubs that are on offer please fill out the forms over the
Easter Holidays and return them, with payment, to the office
no later than Wednesday 13th April.
PTA
School Closure
You will be aware that there are elections being held on
Thursday, 5th of May and Thursday, 23rd of June. The school
will be used as a Polling Station on both days. We have carried
out a full risk assessment and have made the decision that we
will CLOSE to pupils on both days.
The school would like to say a huge thank you to Lucy Hewitt
& Lucy Tang for all of their hard work as Chair and Treasurer
of the Montbelle PTA. The school do recognise how much
hard work the PTA and supporters put into raising money for
the school and we have exciting plans to spend the money
which has been raised – we’ll let you know more in the
Summer Term. We welcome Mrs. Xeureb who has now taken
over as Chair of the PTA.
Year 6 parents will be aware that the May elections are very
close to the children’s SATs. We will be contacting Year 6
parents after the Easter Holidays to invite the children to attend
a range of Booster sessions during the day on Thursday, 5 th of
May, which we would expect children to attend. Year 6
children will also have the opportunity to take part in some
sporting activities during this day.
Dinner Money
A reminder that dinner money will be going up after the Easter
Holidays, it will increase to £1.60 per day/£8 per week. Dinner
money is payable, in advance, at the office.
Local Police
Several parents have asked recently about the local police
response to the perceived increase in reported incidents of
adults approaching children. We have been in touch with the
local police on several occasions and have now been
assigned a designated School Officer. PC Stephanou is due to
visit the school shortly and we will be arranging for her to
meet with all of the children. Year 6 children have also been
booked onto the annual ‘Junior Citizen’ event during June,
where they will meet with members of the Police force, Fire
Brigade, Ambulance service and other agencies to explore
how to keep themselves safe as they make the transition from
Primary to Secondary school.
Thought of the Day……
Please continue to send in your favourite book quotes, book
recommendation of a recent children’s read…or anything interesting to
do with books and reading!
‘It is our choices Harry that show what we truly are, far more than
our abilities.’ Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, J.K. Rowling
Something to get you thinking… "Ip dip sky blue! Who's
'it'? It's you!" Have you ever used this rhyme to decide
who is 'it' in a game?
If you were playing a game with one friend and you
wanted to be chosen to be 'it', would you start the
rhyme, pointing at yourself or your friend?
If there were three of you, how would you position
yourself so that you were sure you'd be chosen?
How about with four of you? Five ...? Six ...? Seven
...? Eight ...? Nine ...? Ten ...? And so on?
How would you predict where you should stand to be
chosen for any number of players?

Foundation
This week Early Years have been thinking about Easter and
looking for signs of Spring. We talked about how Easter is
celebrated and took part in our own Easter Egg
Hunt. Great fun was had by all! The children have also
been busy writing stories, which they have shared with
their friends, and learning about 3D shape.
Key Stage One…
Year 1
This week Year 1 have enjoyed learning about the Easter Story
in R.E and developing their understanding about how
Christians celebrate Easter. Ask your child if they can tell you
what an Easter egg symbolises. We have also thought about
new life at Easter and the children created their own new life
pictures. In Maths, we have explored nets to help us make 3D
Easter baskets. We wish you all an enjoyable school holidays
and a well-deserved rest. Well done for working so hard this
term Year 1!
Year 2
We have had another busy but fantastic term. The children
have been working incredibly hard and we have now
completed our topic on The Great Fire of London. We have
been creating stories of our choice and developing our stories
further to engage the reader. We have also been very artistic
this week painting village scenes for our next topic. Have a
happy and healthy holiday and we look forward to seeing you
all next term.
Key Stage Two….
Year 3
Wow, what a busy week we have had in Year 3! We started
with prop making and rehearsals for our Easter Performance
and ended with our amazing shows. We have learned about
the Easter story and have made Easter cards. We wish you a
lovely Easter break and look forward to welcoming you back
in the new term where we will be learning all about William
Morris.
Year 4
Year 4 have worked hard and collaborated with the year 3’s
to showcase an outstanding Easter production which I
know was thoroughly enjoyed by their peers, adults in
school and those parents and other family members who
attended the performances. The children have made lots of
links to their prior learning across the curriculum and have
left us with lots of reminders about how we can do our part
in looking after our environment. What a fantastic end to a
really busy term.
Year 5
Year 5’s maths focus this week has been on converting
different measures. The children have applied their
knowledge of multiplying and dividing by powers of 10 in
order to convert metres to kilometres, kilograms to grams
and litres to millilitres and vice versa. The children also
carried out a spelling investigation which allowed them to
explore the ‘ious’ suffix. Using dictionaries, year 5 were
able to find the correct spellings of ‘ious’ words and
understand their meaning. Ostinato was the word of the
hour during our music lesson! The children listened to a
repeated pattern of music using characters from ‘Harry
Potter’ and were able to recreate their own. Pitch, dynamics
and tempo were just a few of the musical features that the
children thought of when planning their pieces which led to
some fantastic performances! Have a lovely Easter break!
Year 6
Our final week in the spring term has been another busy one
for Year 6. At the start of the week the children donned their
journalist hats and investigated a mysterious occurrence in the
upper hall. There they discovered a crime scene; and clues
which pointed to the identity of an unknown person. They
asked questions to try to find out more about the incident and
took their findings away, using them to write impartial
newspaper reports to inform others. But the question still
remains: what really happened to this mysterious person?
In Maths, we developed our knowledge and understanding of
BIDMAS and graphs, while engaging with a range of problem
solving. We continued out Science investigations by working
in teams to create an effective "doggy doorbell"; the children
showed incredible resilience in their learning, when working
on this challenging problem.
From all in the Year 6 team, we would like to wish you an
enjoyable and relaxing spring holiday! See you in the Summer
Term!
School Nurse
Our School Nurse will be holding a drop in session for any
parents & carers with medical, behaviour, toileting concerns
or any other medical needs your child may have at school on
the 14th April from 9 - 10 am. If you are unable to make the
session but have concerns you would like to discuss, please
leave a message with the office and we will arrange for
Sandra to get in touch.
Attendance
Our school attendance so far this year is going well; at the same
time, there is always room for further improvement and we have
set aspirational targets for whole school attendance this year!
Please do ensure your child is in school every day, unless they are
unwell enough not to attend.
If a child is unwell during the school day, and the Class Teacher
or First Aider feels they need to be sent home, a phone call will
be made to the first contact on the child’s record. If there is no
response from this number, and the child does need collecting
from school urgently, the emergency contact numbers will be
used. If children report they are feeling slightly unwell, staff will
keep an eye on them but will not necessarily call home
immediately; likewise, if children report feeling unwell towards
the end of the school day, staff will make a judgement as to
whether to contact adults or keep the child calm and reassured
until the end of the day, based on the individual needs of the
child.
If your child requires first aid during the day, they will receive a
slip to bring home. If they sustain a bump to the head, a First
Aider will decide whether a phone call home is required. If a
phone call home is deemed necessary, you will be informed of the
details of the accident. On the very few occasions the First Aider
feel that the child does require a further check by a doctor, the
school will contact the parent/ emergency contact to collect the
child and advise they seek medical advice.
Montbelle Lunch Menu
Week commencing 11th April will be week 3 of the lunchtime
