This American dramatic classic spans almost 13 years in the town of Grover’s Corners, a quintessential small community reflecting the hopes and dreams, the failures and successes, of people everywhere. Altarena Playhouse’s artistic director and Our Town director, Clay David said, “The primary theme of Our Town is humanity's failure to appreciate every precious moment of life. The play is ultimately lifeaffirming in its urging us all to appreciate ordinary, everyday life in the face of mortality. My sincere wish is that we open our hearts and eyes, reconnect and unite our souls, and trust that the love that we sow now will bear many fruits. It will enhance our perceptions, so that for a moment our eyes can see and our ears can hear what is there about us, always.” This production, with live music throughout, finds the heartbeat of every wellworn line, every familiar word. Musical director, Francesca Brava says, “Clay and I collaborated to choose music from the period of the play...the beginning of the 20th century. It is music that evokes feelings of a simpler time when life was not so distracted and family, community, and church were the cornerstones of living. It is our hope that the music will contribute to transporting the viewer and listener to this simpler time and they will experience the enchantment of Our Town.” Even if you know this iconic Pulitzer Prizewinning drama, we guarantee you’ll experience something new. A special ASL interpreted performance will be presented on Friday, November 11. Additional information can be found at: www.altarena.org/asl.
