Timeline Project GT: Mrs. McPherson Standards: 4.2.4 (A) The student explains the issues that led to the Civil War (e.g., slavery, economics, and state's rights). 4.2.5 (K) The student describes the turning points of the Civil War (e.g., Antietam, Gettysburg, Emancipation Proclamation, and Sherman's March to the Sea). (A) The student compares and contrasts various points of views during the Civil War era 4.2.6 (e.g., abolitionists v. slave holders, Robert E. Lee v. Ulysses S. Grant, Abraham Lincoln v. Jefferson Davis, and Harriett Beecher Stowe v. Mary Chestnut). 1.4.6 The student analyzes how text structure (e.g., sequence, problem-solution, comparisoncontrast, description, cause-effect) helps support comprehension of text. Students will evaluate and influential American from the Civil War Era for project selection. 2. Students will implement sequential skills to create an accurate timeline. 3. Students will choose an influential American from the Civil War Era. Students will conduct research and take notes regarding the person. Students will follow the given links to find information and create a time line. Students will create a bibliography in APA format. Students will print both the timeline and bibliography. Students must include the person’s affiliation during the civil war i.e.: Confederate, Union or both. 7. Students will participate in a Socratic discussion about the economic advantages and disadvantages of war. Requirements: Note taking: You MUST take notes on notebook paper or note cards. You will NOT print information from a website at school…..you may print from home if you wish. Timeline: Minimum of 10 entries, maximum of 20 entries.
