Silmade® Low Friction – Silicone Surfaces
Requirements:
Silicone rubber is used in many applications because of its
advantageous properties such as high elasticity or resistance
to high and low temperatures. However the material’s high
coefficients of friction (COF) often cause problems.
Existing top coatings with low COFs have the disadvantage of
low flexibility, i.e. the elasticity of the silicone rubber would be
decreased too much. Other coatings have poor adhesion and
abrasion properties.
Solution:
Properties:

The friction coefficient is reduced up to 70%
(dependent on silicone rubber type, shape,
application, etc.).

Extremely good adhesion between silicone
rubber surface and polyurethane coating

Coating thickness 10-40 µm.

High abrasion & scratch resistance

Very flexible and elastic

Easy-to-clean surface, less dirt and particle
adhesion

Disinfection and sterilisation: autoclaving (120°C
Silcos solved the problem by applying its Silmade® LowFriction Coating. This polyurethane based top coat has low
friction properties and is highly flexible to maintain the
elasticity of the silicone rubber. Very good adhesion
properties can be obtained between the top coat and the
silicone rubber surface due to Silcos’ special surface pretreatment. The Silmade® Low-Friction Coating is available for
both moulded and extruded parts.
