Buck (Coach Buckley) ***Registration***—You must register online at http://edina.ce.feepay.com. If you have not completed registration, you will not be able to participate in our first practice. This is your #1 priority to be a part of the track team. To finalize registration: • 2016-17 Sports Qualifying Physical Examination Clearance Form requires a Physician’s signature. This form consists of 4 pages. NOTE: If the date of your last physical is prior to June 15, 2014 &/or if this is your first time submitting a physical exam clearance form, you will need to submit this form. o The student must turn in the following document to the Edina Community Center main office (Suite 100—Just Inside Door #3) o Or email to [email protected] or o Fax to 952-848-3977 • Parent email is required for communication purposes. School First—It is a privilege to be on this team. You are on the team because you are a student at Valley View Middle School. We expect that your behavior at all times reflects positively on Valley View, the community of Edina, and our track team. Schedule/Communication—We expect that you will make every effort to attend all scheduled practices and meets. That being said, we also know that our lives are busy and we all have many valuable activities we involve ourselves in. We will WORK with YOU to enable you to participate in Valley View Track AND your other activities. Attendance—Attendance at all track events is expected. You have made a commitment to this team. Attendance will be taken at all track events by our captains. We understand that other commitments come up, but we expect that you will make every effort to attend all track events. Please note that attendance is a significant factor when determining captains for the next season. Please note that there are two other key expectations about attendance: 1. You must be present at practice on the day before a meet to compete in stickered events for that meet. If you cannot attend the practice prior to a meet, you will not be stickered for individual events. Even if you don’t sticker for any reason, it is imperative that you compete in exhibition events at every meet. 2. You must participate in the previous meet to have the opportunity to sticker in the next meet. Whether or not you are stickered, we only use the previous meet results to determine stickers for all individual events. (Relays are determined by the sole discretion of the coaches.) TeamSnap—In regards to communication, we will use TEAMSNAP throughout the season. It is important that YOU and YOUR PARENTS BOTH register with TEAMSNAP as that will serve as our official calendar that can easily be changed and notify you of such changes. Conflicts/Stickers—Please discuss any schedule conflicts—particularly with MEET dates—with one of the coaches as soon as possible! Each week we put the top performing athletes into “stickered” heats. If you are “stickered” and you then do not show up it causes a domino effect that negatively impacts our team. Practices—Our first day of practice (Monday, April 3, 2017) will be at VALLEY VIEW MIDDLE SCHOOL. Meet in the South Gym at 3:00 p.m. In order to maintain schedules/transportation we will plan to end practice each day at 4:10PM. After the first practice at Valley View, students will ride the Activity Bus (#86 or #59) from VV each day to ECC. The Activity Bus (#86 & #59) leaves VV at 2:45 and again (Only #86) at 3:17 from Door #16. You will need to be picked up at ECC after practice or take the activity shuttle. 2017 Valley View Girls Track Information & Expectations Page 1 DRESS—For the weather! J In addition to shorts, t-shirt, running shoes, you should have a sweatshirt, sweatpants, and stocking hat every day. It is very important to keep your legs warm before running at practice and meets. If the sun is out and it goes away and starts to rain – you are prepared! J You also need a full water bottle/sport drink. Hydration is key! Shoes—The most important piece of track equipment is running shoes. You do not need to spend a lot of money to get a good pair of running shoes, but you must get a pair that fit you properly. Take time to have a knowledgeable sales person at a running store assist you with your shoe purchase. **Tell the following stores that you are on the Edina Track Team and they will give you a discount.** Run-N-Fun --------------------------- 868 Randolph Ave., St. Paul ----------------------- 651-290-2747 th Marathon Sports-------------- 2312 West 50 Street, Minneapolis ------------------- 612-920-2606 Gear Sports -------------------- 4510 Excelsior Blvd., St. Louis Park ------------------ 952-926-2645 The Spectators’ Guide to Track & Field Meets—Here is some information for parents and other family members regarding Track & Field Meets: • Most of the meets we compete at have aluminum bleachers. If it is cold, they are very cold. If it is hot and sunny, they are hot. To make spectating more enjoyable, we recommend coming prepared with blankets, hats, mittens, sunscreen, water, etc. • Meets occur in all but the absolute worst weather. Lightning is the only guaranteed reason a meet will be cancelled. We have run in meets with weather including rain, sleet, and snow although sometimes cancellations will occur in such situations. Be ready for anything! • Track & Field Order of Events: 100 Meter Hurdles (1/4 Lap), 1600 Meter (1 Mile) Run (4 laps), 100 Meter Dash (1/4 Lap), 800 (4 X 200) Meter Relay (2 Laps), 400 Meter Dash (1 Lap), 400 (4 X 100) Meter Relay (1 Lap), 800 Meter Run (2 Laps), 200 Meter Dash (1/2 Lap), Sprint Medley (4 Laps). • Field events (Shot Put, Disc, High Jump, Long Jump) typically start at the beginning of the meet (3:45 p.m.) and continue until they are complete or when the Sprint Medley begins (whichever comes first). Apparel—One of the privileges of being on the track team is the opportunity to order track apparel. Captains have been working hard on coming up with some cool designs and selecting garments that will keep you warm and cool depending on the weather. Ordering track apparel is optional. You may order apparel online between now rd and Wednesday, March 23 . A second opportunity to order will take place after Spring Break, but the delivery for that order will be in May. Meet Days—Our meets usually begin at 3:45pm and finish around 5:30pm. You will ride the activity bus from VV to ECC for meets held at ECC. You will need to be picked up there, no bus return to VV. Here are a few things the Captains would like you to remember: • Always support your teammates at practice and cheer them on at meets. • Bring/wear lots of layers for staying warm outside. • Try your best. • Track is meant to be fun so try to be social and meet new people. • Try new events because you never know what you might be good at! • Eat a snack before practice or a meet to fuel your workout and stay hydrated throughout the entire event. • We (Captains) are here to help so if you have any questions about practice, meets, transportation, etc., don’t hesitate to ask! Coaching Staff—As coaches, we are here to support you and partner with each of you to make this season a successful one for all involved. Always use the “open door policy” to share comments, concerns, and commendations.
