Today we seek to Develop our Relationship Reconciliation
Skills by continuing on our Journey through the Bible with
the very important book of Deuteronomy. This book was
quoted from extensively in the New Testament which attests
to it’s importance to Jesus and the early church, thus to it’s
importance to us today as New Testament Christians. As I
mentioned before
Genesis - is referenced or alluded to 68 times in NT:
Exodus – 75 times
Leviticus – 18 times
Numbers – 7 times
And in Deuteronomy – it is over 78 times
DATE: Around 1406 B.C.
THEME: If you want to enter, claim and keep Canaan's "restland," remember your past (4:32). consider your present (5:33), and
look to your future (28:2) through the eyes of obedience.
KEY VERSES: "And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God
ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to
love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with
all your soul, and to observe the LORD's commands and decrees that
I am giving you today” Deut. 10:12-13

All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go
therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and
teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And
remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. Last words
after the resurrection of Jesus according to Matthew 28:18-20
See Acts 1:7-8 …7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or
periods that the Father has set by His own authority. 8 But you will
receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be
My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends
of the earth.” 9 After He had said this, He was taken up as they were
watching, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.
These Last Words/ Farewell Address of Jesus reinforces God’s plan for
all people to be in a loving faithful covenant relationship with Him.
He started with Adam, then Eve, then an extended Family portrayed in
Abraham, then expanded it to a Tribe, with Jacob/Israel, grandson of
Abraham. Then God expanded that to a Nation, Hebrews/Children of
Israel). Each step shows the ever-increasing reach of a loving God to
bring All people to Him. We are designed and commanded to
“Reconcile” or help people come back into a right relationship with God.
Remember one of our key verses 1 Corinthians
Ezekiel 18:23… Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked?”
[This is]the declaration of the Lord GOD. “Instead, don’t I [take
pleasure]when he turns from his ways and lives?
2 Peter 3:9… The Lord does not delay His promise, as some
understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish, but
all to come to repentance.
Suggested Scripture Reading – Deut. 6:1-9, 17-25
“This is the command—the statutes and ordinances—the LORD your God has
instructed [me]to teach you, so that you may follow [them]in the land you are
about to enter and possess. 2 [Do this]so that you may fear the LORD your God
all the days of your life by keeping all His statutes and commands I am giving
you, your son, and your grandson, and so that you may have a long life.
3
Listen, Israel, and be careful to follow [them], so that you may prosper and
multiply greatly, because the LORD, the God of your fathers, has promised you a
land flowing with milk and honey. 4 “Listen, Israel: The LORD our God, the
LORD is One. 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul,
and with all your strength. 6 These words that I am giving you today are to be in
your heart. 7 Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your
house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get
up. 8 Bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be a symbol on your
forehead. 9 Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates….
Deut. 6: 17:25
17
Carefully observe the commands of the LORD your God, the decrees and
statutes He has commanded you. 18 Do what is right and good in the LORD’s
sight, so that you may prosper and so that you may enter and possess the good
land the LORD your God swore to [give]your fathers, 19 by driving out all your
enemies before you, as the LORD has said.
20
“When your son asks you in the future, ‘What is the meaning of the decrees,
statutes, and ordinances, which the LORD our God has commanded you?’
1
tell him, ‘We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the LORD brought us out of
Egypt with a strong hand. 22 Before our eyes the LORD inflicted great and
devastating signs and wonders on Egypt, on Pharaoh and all his household,
23
but He brought us from there in order to lead us in and give us the land that
He swore to our fathers. 24 The LORD commanded us to follow all these statutes
and to fear the LORD our God for our prosperity always and for our
preservation, as it is today. 25 Righteousness will be ours if we are careful to
follow every one of these commands before the LORD our God, as He has
commanded us.’
