AMAZING ADVENTURES FOR BACKPACKERS & ALTERNATIVE TRAVELLERS IN THE YASAWA ISLANDS, FIJI AN INTRODUCTION TO AWESOME ADVENTURES FIJI WHO WE ARE? ‘Awesome Adventures Fiji’ is an experienced operator (a subsidiary of award winning South Sea Cruises). All vessels are fully licensed and staff trained to adhere to stringent safely requirements. The name says it all, let us show you the ‘real’ Fiji and an awesome time in the beautiful Yasawa Islands. HOW IT ALL STARTED In 1999 local tourism operators approached reputable cruise operator South Sea Cruises to provide a safe transfer service to the Yasawas. What started as an experiment with 2 departures per week rapidly grew into a 7 day a week service. Today South Sea Cruises under the brand Awesome Adventures Fiji moves over 24,000 passengers per year to, from and around the Yasawa Group of Islands. Passengers travelling with Awesome Adventures Fiji cover a broad range of people, Backpackers to Urban Professionals – from all over the world. Aware of the beauty of the Yasawas these people stay at the 20 plus, relatively unknown, small accommodation venues scattered throughout this island group. ‘THE YASAWA FLYER’ With the rapid growth in Awesome Adventure Fiji passenger numbers a new vessel was purchased in April 2002 to meet demand. The vessel ‘Yasawa Flyer’ is a large high-speed catamaran measuring 24m in length with a cruising speed of 24 knots. Licensed to carry 145 passengers the vessel features a large air-conditioned lower cabin, Captain’s lounge, bar & snack area with plenty of outdoor seating and viewing areas. THE REGION The Yasawa Islands renowned as the film location in the 80’s remake of ‘Blue Lagoon’, consist of a chain of 20 ancient volcanic islands. Four of these islands have dramatic elevations with summits just short of 600 metres above sea level. The pristine white sandy beaches, secluded bays with minimal tourism development and dramatic monoliths surrounded by crystal clear lagoons provide a beautiful environment in which to relax or enjoy the many activities on offer. In addition to exclusive resorts like Turtle Island there are another 20 plus smaller budget accommodation venues scattered along the shores of the Islands. WHAT TO EXPECT These are not luxury resorts. If you need a hair dryer, this is not for you. 5 star locations at 1 star prices - the accommodation is often in stunning setting and is generally basic but this is where you’ll experience the real Fiji. You’ll get to meet, mix and mingle with the locals who operate the resorts and whose home this is. ACCOMMODATION Resorts offer the choice of dormitory & share twin/double accommodation options. Dorms vary in size between 8 & 32 beds. All are fitted with mosquito nets but we recommend bringing along insect repellent. Share twin & double rooms are called Bures. Some bures do feature ensuite bathroom facilities but the majority have share facilities. Don’t expect a hot water tap but with a tepid local water supply it’s really not required. You'll have electricity from around sunset to midnight then its lights out. There are no power mains in the Yasawas so all electricity is supplied from a generator. EATING One of life’s necessities and great pleasures. We’ve included meals in the packages (except some ‘Survivor’ options) because eating at the resort you’re staying in is the only choice – there are no restaurants around the corner. Meals are served at specific times of day e.g. breakfast 8am – 9pm. Yes it's a drag but that's simply the way it works in the Yasawas. It does however provide a great opportunity to check out the talent sorry we mean meet fellow travellers. Meals are simple and filling, it's the price you pay for the beauty of isolation. We recommend Vegetarians inform the resort on arrival. NOTE: where additional ‘Meal Package’ prices are shown these are per person per day. The meal package has to be taken as there are no alternative dining places. This cost should be paid directly to the resort on check in. TODAY Rather than simply provide launch transfers Awesome Adventures Fiji has developed a range of products including accommodated cruising, packages (inclusive of transfers, island accommodation, meals and activities) and Island Hopping Passes valid for up to 7, 14 or 21 days called the ‘Bula Pass’. Support for Awesome Adventures Fiji has been overwhelming and now features in all major New Zealand and Australian wholesale brochures. THE ‘BULA PASS’ Island hopping passes are valid for one return journey to the Yasawas and unlimited island hopping within the group for up to 7, 14 or 21 days. We recommend the Bula Pass for the more independent traveller wanting to explore the Yasawa Islands for a minimum of 7 days. For people who want it all organised for them or on shorter itineraries we’ve designed a range of 2 to 12 day packaged itineraries inclusive of transfers, island accommodation and meals. The full colour Awesome Adventure Fiji brochure features a map locating islands, activities & attractions available e.g. diving, hiking and kayaking. A Bula Pass Guide is provided on check in featuring essential information to move around including accommodation contact details. Bula Pass transfers from one island to another should be booked in advance to secure a seat (24 hours recommended). YASWAS ISLAND ACCOMMODATION PASS The perfect partner to the ‘Bula Pass’ the ‘Accommodation Pass’ provides the easy, hassle free way to pay for your accommodation. Start with the minimum 5 nights and then just choose how many extra nights you feel you might stay. An updated list of Awesome properties you can use your ‘Accommodation pass’ at will be issued at departure / check-in. Bear in mind not all properties accept credit cards or travellers cheques – just cash. THE PACKAGES Most packages are available in two forms – ‘Boat/Bed/Meals’ – just what it says and ‘The Full Monty’. The Full Monty is the same package as Boat/Bed/Meals but with the addition of selected activities.
