Welcome to Camp DeWitt
Welcome to Camp DeWitt Day Camp nestled on 152 acres in the Sourland Mountains in
Hillsborough, NJ. Camp DeWitt is a spectacular place that allows girls to explore and
discover the great outdoors. Our programs are designed to challenge girls and help them
gain independence while creating friendships and memories to last a lifetime. Join us for
the summer of 2017 as we unveil our brand new activities building and kick off the
summer with new and exciting programs.
Day camp sessions will run from July 5 through August 11 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm,
Monday through Friday for girls entering Kindergarten to grade 10. In addition to the
program theme, girls will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of camp activities
which may include swim lessons and free swim, hiking, outdoor cooking, nature activities,
games, sports, singing, archery (grades 4 and up) and low ropes course. Our brand new
activities building will offer shelter from extreme heat and major storms. Specialty Camp
programs focus on a particular interest combined with traditional camp activities like
swimming, boating, hiking, cook-outs, crafts and games.
Our camp program is based on the values of the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Several of
our programs are designed for girls to earn a full badge during the time at camp. Other
program may also earn badges or parts of badges. This information will be available after
your daughter’s stay at camp.
Our summer day camp fees include all activity supplies, a weekly trip, T-shirt (one per
camper), daily snacks and bus transportation. Don’t see a bus route near your town? No
problem! Get twelve girls in your town to register for the same session, and we’ll arrange
transportation via express van Camp DeWitt at no additional cost!
Overnight Camping and Cookout
All campers going into grade 3 and up are eligible (not required) to stay for an overnight on
Thursdays during the week 3, 4 or 5. Campers will help cookout dinner, participate in a
campfire with s’mores and songs and enjoy the evening sleeping out on the porches of
our rustic cabins. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for the next day as well. This is a
great way to introduce your daughter to overnight camping!
Evening Campfire and Cookout
Not ready to have your camper stayover? How about experiencing a cookout? All campers
going into grade 3 and up are eligible to stay for the cookout and campfire on Thursdays
during weeks, 3, 4 and 5. Campers will help cookout dinner and then participate in a
campfire with s’mores and songs with a 9:00 p.m. parent pick-up at camp.
New This Year!
Family Nights
Family nights are a great way to get to meet others and learn more about the camp
experience. On Thursday during weeks 2 and 6, parents and family members are welcome
to return to camp for an evening barbecue and campfire from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Be sure to sign up for this fun camp evening for all!
Pre-Care and Post-Care
New this year! Camp DeWitt will be offering before and after care for a fee of $50 per
week. Pre-care will be offered from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and post-care from 4:00 p.m. to
6:00 p.m. Parents/Guardians are responsible for the pickup and drop off of their daughter
as busing is not available.
Early Bird Registration Discount: Receive a $25 per session discount for each session
you register and pay for in full prior to March 1, 2017!
Sister Discount: Sending sisters to the same sessions? After signing up your first
camper, each additional camper attending the same session from your household
receives a $25 discount. Offer good for each session you send more than one camper to!

General Programs
WELCOME BACK DEWITT
Start the summer off with this three-day program! Try the pool, ropes course, hike, make a
s’more, camp crafts and more! Welcome back Camp DeWitt in style! And have the
bragging rights to say you were the first at DeWitt!
MINI CAMP SAMPLER
Sample all that Day Camp has to offer in a half-day program. Games, singing, hiking, arts
and crafts, swimming, outdoor cooking, and nature activities will fill your morning. Weekly
themes will add to the excitement and fun! Note: Campers must be picked up at camp
each day at 1:00 p.m.
CAMP SAMPLER
New and veteran campers will love this program! Become comfortable in the out-of-doors
while hiking, swimming, singing, playing sports and games, cooking-out, and exploring
nature. Develop your creativity at in our maker space and the weekly themes will add to
the excitement and fun!
CAMP ADVENTURE
Campers will have fun sampling all camp life has to offer at Camp DeWitt. Enjoy the out-ofdoors while learning camp skills, hiking the camp, participating in the Ropes Course,
Ziplining, geocaching, practicing archery, sports and games, cooking-out, and exploring
nature.
Specialty Programs
PHOTO-SNAPPERS
Capture the outdoors and your camp experience through the eyes of your camera. Learn
about basic camera functions, edit your pictures and at the end of the week take home
your camp memories! Girls will earn the Junior Digital Photographer badge.
CLAYMAKERS
Learn about famous female sculptors and become one too! Work with different mediums,
including clay to make your own sculptures!
MORE THAN A PENCIL
Your days will be spent sketching the scenes of camp! With your sketchbook in hand, you
will have all of DeWitt as your canvas! Learn the tips and techniques of sketching and to
go beyond just doodling. Girls will earn the Junior Drawing badge.
CAMP TWIST
Love day camp but want to experience sleep-away camp, too? Encounter the best of both
camp worlds in a special two-week session! Spend the first week (Monday through Friday)
at Camp DeWitt forming friendships with fellow campers and counselors in your unit and
participating in all the great day camp activities. The next week Sunday through Saturday,
venture off to Camp Hoover, our resident camp, with your same unit and counselors to
experience overnight camp at its best. This program is designed to provide a comfortable
transition from day camp to sleep-away camp for girls and their parents. Note: Parent
drop-off on Sunday and parent pick-up on Saturday at Camp Hoover in Middleville, NJ.
JUNIOR SCOUT SKILLS
Learn how to survive in the wild. Build fires, work with a compass and GPS, hike the trails,
make trail mix, pitch a tent and learn to make a box oven and cook in it! Enjoy a cookout
to show off your new skills! Girls will earn the Junior Camper badge.
WACKY SNACKS & APPS
Learn to make fun snacks that are sure to be party pleasers! Learn food safety, basic
nutrition and create a fun cookbook! Share your tasty treats with another camp group.
CHEF SPECTACULAR
Make full meals and even compete with your friends to see whose dish tastes the best! In
addition, learn basic food safety, nutrition facts and even create your own! Girls will earn
the Junior Simple Meals badge.
CHEF AU NATURAL
Learn the basics of cooking out over a fire and then explore other methods of cooking
including a box-oven, pie irons and stick cooking.
CACHE-IN
Learn the lay of the land by hiking all of the DeWitt trails! Using GPS devices search and
find hidden treasures all over camp. Don’t forget to leave something and sign that you
were there! Girls will earn the Junior Geocacher badge.
GET YOUR HOOVES WET
Travel to the Piedmont Stables in Hopewell, NJ to ride each day. Learn about safety on and
around horses, basic anatomy, grooming, the tack and harness, and the different styles of
riding. Practice horsemanship basics with time spent riding each day. When not riding,
learn and practice grooming and barn management. Girls will earn the Junior Horseback
Riding badge.
SADDLE UP
Already have experience on a horse! Then take the next step at Piedmont Stables with
more time around the horses and a one hour ride! When you aren’t riding, learn and
practice grooming and barn management. Girls will earn the Junior Horseback Riding
badge.
BROADWAY BOUND
In this two-week program, girls will learn what it takes to create a stage production. Help
write a script, audition, and practice your role as you develop your improv and acting
skills. From backdrops to scenery to costumes, girls will create it all as they prepare for
our camp show.
BIRDS, BUGS AND BUTTERFLIES, OH MY!
Spend your days in the outdoors, identifying bugs, birds and animal habitats. Go bird
watching, catch butterflies and bugs and search animal homes and how to co-exist! Wrap
up the week by taking a trip to World of Wings, butterfly museum! Girls will earn the
Junior Animal Habitats badge.
ROBO-SCOUTS
Put your technical skills to work as you and your teammates build your own robot and
then develop your coding skills to put your robot through challenges!
QUILTING MEMORIES
Learn the trade and techniques of quilting! Bring 12 of your favorite t-shirts or fabrics to
use in your quilt and at the end of the week take home a beautiful memory quilt!
CANDLE MAKING 101
Learn the art of candle making! Choose your own scents, colors and make beautiful
candles to take home!
SCOUT SKILLS
Learn how to survive in the wild. Build fires, work with a compass and GPS, hike the trails,
learn about edible plants, pitch a tent and end the week with a camp-out overnight.
CAKE BOSS
Put your cake making skills to the test! Learn techniques of baking and decorating and
design your own cake! Round out the week with a trip to a special bakery and witness the
magic in action!
FOREIGN FOODIE
Become familiar with different foods and cooking techniques from around the world!
Cook a different cuisine each day and end you week with a trip to an international
restaurant. Girls will earn the Cadette New Cuisines badge.
YOGI GIRLS
Start the day with sun salutations by a trained yogi. Learn how to be mindful, keep a
gratitude journal and live in the moment while practicing to take care of the mind and
body!
NUTURING NATURE
Be hands on in this program! Take a stream hike, make a nature sculpture, hike, cookout
and learn to use your resources wisely! Take a trip to the local nature center to learn
more!
STEM-TACULAR
STEM is everywhere! Use your own special talents to put it to use solving problems in
your community. Spend the week learning the ins and outs of 3D printing, building stuff
big and small, understanding and using solar energy in creative ways, and more! Plus,
spend a day out of camp investigating other ways you can put your STEM skills to work.
TRIP & TRAVEL: SUMMER FUN
In this new and exciting program, spend part of your week off site! Your group will get
explore the Jersey Shore, head to Six Flags and more!
TRIP & TRAVEL: WILD ADVENTURES
Looking for something more to do this summer! Then this is the program for you! Spend
your week white water rafting, exploring a high ropes course and more!
