“MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST ADVENTURE” CLINTON THERAPEUTIC RECREATION DEPARTMENT ESCORTED BY CHANDRA FONTENOT AND LANCE CLAY TUESDAY, MAY 5, 2015 ************************************************** This morning we make an early-morning departure for the Mississippi Gulf Coast as we will tour Biloxi, Gulfport, and Ocean Springs. Our luxury motorcoach will depart from Clinton at the Parks and Recreation lot at 7:00AM as we make our way down Interstate 49. We will make a rest stop at the Hattiesburg Welcome Center. Upon arrival in Biloxi, will ride along Highway 90, which will give us an uplifting tour as we view the commercial and residential progress that has been made since Hurricane Katrina devastated our coast in 2005. Our first tour attraction on the Coast will be the new Ohr – O’ Keefe Museum of Art! This morning, we will learn about the unique life of master potter George Ohr, “The Mad Potter of Biloxi,” and how his pottery was made, and is showcased to this day in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. We will also enjoy touring the rest of the museum and gallery, showcasing a diverse group of art from the south and around the world! Following our tour of the Ohr – O’Keefe museum, we will head towards a favorite seafood restaurant on the coast, McElroy’s on the Bayou. Enjoy your choice of five delicious entrees, showcasing fresh seafood or “land-lovers” plate, for lunch included today. After our lunch, we will enjoy a real treat as we board a historic Biloxi Schooner – the “Glenn Sweatman” and sail around the Gulf Coast for a memorable two hour tour this afternoon. We will have the opportunity to see a beautiful side of the coast and may even see some dolphins nearby! After our schooner tour, we will make one more scenic drive on Highway 90 to visit the “Friendship Tree,” a beautiful 500 year old Oak Tree on the Coast that has survived Hurricane Camille and Katrina. Legend says that if you stand in the Oak’s shadows you will have friends for a lifetime. After seeing the Friendship Tree we will say goodbye to the Coast and load our motorcoach, heading back to Clinton. We should arrive by 7:30PM.
