This has been a great week - it was wonderful to see so many
of our children dressed up today and there were some really
imaginative costumes. The children showed their costumes in
assembly and photographs will be available on our Facebook
page.
In classes children have been writing stories inspired by
Superheroes or fact files about their favourite heroes. There
have been lots of entries to our model competition and prizes
for all Book Week competitions will be awarded next week. It
was lovely to see so many parents in school this afternoon
reading with their children too.
2017
Behaviour - Our Dojo Champions this week are:

and Chloe-Mae Bull
Year 3 – Sonny Abitbol and Skye Stokes
Year 4 – Alice Tomlin and Grace Biffen
Year 5 –Archie Horwood and Monica Cooper
Reading is a fundamental life skill and we hope that this week
will have inspired many pupils to read even more than they
do already.
Year 6 – Louie Reed, Harry Webster and Paige Dalby
Waste Week
Accelerated Reader
Waste Week which will commence on 6th March was
launched to the whole school at an assembly on Thursday 2nd
March.
The following pupils were presented with achievements
this week:
Our theme is Upcycling and there is a competition for
children to upcycle discarded and unwanted garden tools into
something useful and/or beautiful. Competition entries
should be brought into school with name and class clearly
visible and left on the stage in the Thames Hall. The ECO
Champions will then judge the winner and there will be a
prize.
We are encouraging children to reduce the amount of waste
that is created in school and at home, e.g. less packaging in
the lunchbox, and to recycle where possible.
On Friday 10th March the children can wear something green
to finish off Waste Week with a green day and parents are
invited into school from 2.30pm to view what the children
have been doing during the week.

Fantastic news - whole school attendance this week is now above the national average with an outstanding 96.4%. Well
done to Elm Class for being the best attending class with an astonishing 99.2%.
Attendance is rising significantly at William Read because of the continued support from parents and carers. Please could
we remind parents that we do not authorise holidays during term time under any circumstances. Please be aware that on
return you may be invited into a meeting to discuss attendance, as the holiday combined with other absences could lead
to your child falling behind in their learning. We would also remind you that medical appointments need to be made,
where possible, after school or during holidays.
