Rounding to Nearest 10

ROUNDING TO THE NEAREST 10
What Is Rounding to the Nearest 10?
Rounding makes numbers easier to work with if you do not need an
exact number. Rounded numbers are only approximate.
You can use rounded numbers to get an answer that is close but does
not have to be exact.
How to round to the nearest 10:
1. Read the number.
2. Identify the “tens digit” and underline it.
3. Use a number line to round to nearest ten.
Remember these rules for rounding numbers to the nearest
ten:
•
Make the numbers that end in 1 through 4 into the next lower
number that ends in 0. For example 24 rounded to the nearest
ten would be 20.
•
Numbers that end in a digit of 5 or more should be rounded up
to the next ten. The number 18 rounded to the nearest ten
would be 20.
