4TH Grade Writing:
Test Design
Assessment is done in one day.
(see Test Design document on our website)
24 questions and one Expository Prompt
For the test session, students can work through
the test in any order: composition first or
multiple-choice first.
The 4th grade assessment will contain 8 revising
multiple choice questions, and 16 editing multiple
choice items.

Grade Writing:
Revision and Editing
Revision and editing are assessed separately,
with increased focus on revision as students
become more experienced and skilled writers
The revising and editing portion of the test is
75% of test and the composition portion is
25%.

(1) Some kids look forward to summer vacation. (2) Others can’t
wait for spring and the start of baseball season. (3) My favorite
time of year comes shortly after the winter holidays. (4) One day
I’ll notice a girl sitting at a table in front of the grocery store. (5)
As I walk by, she will politely ask, “Would you like to buy some
cookies?” (6) At that point I jump for joy.

Make sure that your child goes to bed at a
reasonable time.
Give your child a good breakfast the morning of
the test.
Get your child to school on time on test days (7:45)
