Trade
They will learn about the global location of the
main rainforests and the reason for the climatic
conditions found within them, Kayapo tribe and
how their habitat is under threat, animal
adaptations to survive the extreme environment
and the human causes of rainforest destruction.
Finally the unit ends by looking at ways
rainforests can be conserved and protected.
Focus – introduce students to the concept of
development and how countries are categorised
in terms of development.
They will learn what development is and how
people’s lives differ depending on the level of
development, focus on the Kibera slum in Kenya
and how international aid has helped
development in this area.
The Brandt line is introduced so that students
understand how development is categorised,
students then will understand issues with the
Brandt line today and make an assessment on
whether it is still applicable. Students are
introduced to Hans Rosling, a current world
leading statistician of demography.
Focus – as part of Fairtrade fortnight we are
introducing the concept of trade, Fairtrade and
trafficking.
Students start off by playing the trade game and
reflect on how trade can be unfair, we then
introduce the concept of Fairtrade and human
trafficking. We look at the benefits of Fairtrade
for the farmer and the community
