It is good not to have to carry a paper program around...Thanks Bob! As mentioned above this was written the last part of August so the upcoming December issue will have our recap of the International Rally. We hope everyone that attended enjoyed the rally and have penciled in October 2-7 (early parking will begin on September 28) for the 2017 International Rally in Sedalia, Missouri. HERE’S WHAT’S HAPPENING Bob & Bonnie Krieger (12508-L), International Directors Linda Feece, Klub Coordinator We start many articles with sharing where we are and what we are doing. As this is written in late August we are in Nappanee and have been here for some time. Yes, we are parked in Camp Newmar and it has been busy. There are coaches moving out each morning at 6 am and returning every afternoon around 2 pm. The weather has been good and we can sit out in the evening and meet more folks. We have been working long hours with Linda to make the International Rally at Pueblo, CO a very good time for all. When I say long hours it is just that. There is a 2 hour time delay so many calls and return calls are 4 or 5 pm their time but 6 or 7pm…. DST our time. There is excitement in the air as more and more door prizes are filling the office - Excitement as we get delivery of the merchandise for our Newmar Klub store and gifts to welcome you to Pueblo. Excitement as we load the Newmar trailer that carries all of this to Pueblo. Thanks to the assist of Bob & Jane Hadley and Ron & Wanda Llewellyn, and Linda and the hand truck we did get it all in! It is loaded and strapped down and ready for delivery. For the International Rally of 2016, we are delighted to introduce the new “Grupio” app for your phones and tablets and ipads. With this app you were able to see the entire program of seminars for the International, see the list of attendees, review and link to many of the suppliers, vendors, Dealers, and sponsors, see the maps of the fairgrounds and buildings, as well as highlight the seminars you want to attend. We have even added the menus for the meals that are being served in Pueblo Page 10 We have adventures before us with the “Gathering at Quartzsite”. The Rally in the Keys has sold out and there is an active waiting list. We are already taking reservations for the Tampa Super Show in January, 2017. There is a cruise around the Hawaii Islands in February, 2017! Once again you are encouraged to check out the “Calendar of Events” in the Konnection and the “Klub Calendar” on our website www.newmarkountryklub.com to see what is happening in your area or where you are traveling. There are also Chapter, State, Provincial and Regional Rallies as well as the International Rally and multiple Special Events to attend all over the USA and Canada. Some of these gatherings are luncheons or no host rallies….we will use any excuse to get together! We have had good reports on “no host rallies” with a recent event having 20 units in attendance! What better way to learn about your coach then to get together with folks that drive and live in them. “What does this green button do?” “Where the heck is the fuse to the door lock”? Who else will know….why, someone who has also looked for and found that very same fuse! The Lewis and Clark rally has ended; the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta has flown by; the “Grand Circle Caravan” has been completed. The planning now starts for an Alaska Caravan (early June-mid July 2017), more rallies; as well as for Sedalia, Missouri and the 32nd annual Newmar International Rally! We want to Thank Julie & Everett Israel for their many years of service to the Klub as Region 4 Directors and recently as Illinois State Directors. They have sold their RV and are stepping down as State Directors. Help us keep the fun going – step up as State/Provincial Directors – we have several State/ Provincial Director positions that are open. Join us in all of this fun, fellowship and food!! RECIPES! RECIPES! RECIPES! RECIPES! KOUNTRY KORNER RECIPES QUICK SALAD I have a friend who will only make four ingredient recipes. So, for everyone else out there who likes to keep it simple, this is a good one. It’s called “Quick Salad”, but it’s more like a dessert. 1 cup cherry or blueberry pie filling - what the heck, put the whole can in if you want I do. 1 can of crushed pineapple-20 oz- drained WELL 1 cup of sweetened condensed milk- again, I go for the gusto and just use the whole 14 oz in the can 12 oz. tub of Cool Whip Combine all ingredients in bowl and stir well. So, in my case, I figure, just use the mixer and beat it up! I usually put the mixture in a 9 by 12 inch pan or two smaller ones. Chill and serve. I prefer to freeze and serve! As you can read, I added my “two cents” of changes. So, feel free to change to your taste. William Butler Yeats One of the greatest benefits of being a member of the Newmar Kountry Klub is the making of new friends. No matter where you go, friendships grow! We learned this at our first Newmar Kountry Klub function many years ago. Two Ohio chapters were having a joint rally at Lazydays Campground in Florida and we went to one of their luncheons. Everyone and I mean everyone was so friendly and made us feel right at home. We didn’t even have to discuss whether we wanted to join a chapter. Strangers soon became lifelong friends. So, if you are new to the Klub, step out of your comfort zone and make strangers into new friends. Many members, including us, have joined more than one chapter. Why? Not only because we are based in Ohio and winter in Florida, but because as we have traveled throughout our region, Canada and the United States, we have found the greatest resource is people…people we enjoy being with. Often we have talked about traveling, and that is the purpose most of us have for living the RV lifestyle. But ‘people’ are the true source of our pleasure. We look forward to and enjoy being with our Newmar friends. When we first became Region Directors, the internet was just becoming available on a broader basis. We have watched the Klub adjust to the advancement of its social outreach with the implementation of a website and Facebook page. These advances continue to have an impact on the Klub’s growth and popularity when many ‘camping clubs’ are struggling. In addition, Newmar’s growing customer base has been a vital cornerstone for our growth. The quality of the product makes us all proud to be involved in the Klub. As you read this, you may have just attended the 2016 International Rally in Pueblo, Colorado. If you missed it, we encourage you to plan on attending the 2017 International Rally in Sedalia, Missouri. Along the way, why not check out some of the special events, region rallies, state rallies and chapter rallies. Like us, you can make friends out of strangers. Page 12 Since our last report, we have attended the MichiganOhio Joint State Rally in Oak Harbor, Ohio. We had a very enjoyable rally visiting Put In Bay, Perry’s Victory & International Peace Memorial , Butterfly House, Chocolate Factory, and of course, enjoying great food and fellowship. We were blessed to have our youngest son, Stephen join us. He too was able to turn strangers into friends. We spent a couple of weeks at home catching up on the usual…mowing, gardening, harvesting, and getting ready for the fair. Ron is still on the board of our county fair and works diligently to provide a great adventure and opportunity for the youth of our county. From there we traveled to the Region 4 Rally in Milton, Wisconsin to welcome the new Region Directors, Del & Lela Nordstrom, into the fold. Of course, as experienced members, they held a fantastic rally! After some time at Camp Newmar to have some repair and warranty work done, we attended the Region 6 Rally in New Martinsville, West Virginia. Again, the new Region Directors, Jerry & Phyllis Rose, did an outstanding job. Our daughter Debbie was able to attend with us and like our son soon made many new friends. The 2016 International Rally is in the books, but because our publish deadline was prior to this edition, we’ll expound on it in our December article. Needless to say, strangers are just friends we haven’t met yet. Our biggest challenge is recalling where and when we met our new friends. So, be sure to remind us when you meet us again! We hope to make you our friend soon. Please join us at one of the Newmar Kountry Klub rallies or special events! As always, we can be reached at [email protected], Ron at (740)707-7107 and Wanda at (740)707-2063. We’d love to hear from you! It doesn’t mean you stop traveling, it just means there are less people in parks and some areas are beginning to close, while others are getting ready for the high season. September marked the 26th year for the Fulltimers Chapter, and as we are chapter #26, we celebrated. This year’s Rally and Annual Business meeting was a huge success with 34 rigs in attendance, 14 of those being new members to the chapter. Fun and Friendship abounded with a bit of sightseeing at the Royal Gorge Bridge and Museum, and surrounding areas. And then it was off to the International Rally in Pueblo. I’m sure you’ll hear more about that in the next issue of the Konnection. Don’t forget to mark your calendars for our joint rally with the Arizona Sun Catchers in Benson, Arizona. The dates are Thursday, April 6, to Monday, April, 10. Check the online calendar for more information and registration, we hope to see many of you there. CHANGE IN NEWMAR KOUNTRY KLUB BOARD OF DIRECTORS Matthew Miller, President of the Newmar Kountry Klub Board of Directors and Newmar Corporation, is making a change in responsibilities for the Newmar Kountry Klub Board. The Kountry Klub Board has approved a switch in board member responsibilities. Kevin Bogan will become President of the Newmar Kountry Klub, and Matt Miller will become a Board Member. Matt states, "I simply want less responsibility and more time to enjoy the Klub events. Also it will give Kevin and others at Newmar an opportunity to get more involved in the Klub. Pam and I are planning to attend the Klub events just as we have in the past". Kevin was born and raised in New Jersey and graduated from Rutgers College of Engineering with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering. He has lived across the country in 6 other states. He met Michele, his wife of 24 years, in Seattle. They have 2 children, Brendan (22) and Brittany (19), who both live in Indianapolis. Kevin has been with Newmar for 15 years as Vice President of Manufacturing, and was recently promoted to Vice President of Operations. He has been on the Kountry Klub Board for 11 years, and has attended 14 Kountry Klub International Rallies, the first in York, Pennsylvania in 2002. In 2017, the International Rally is headed to Missouri and so is the Fulltimers Chapter – Branson, Missouri is the site for the 2017 Fulltimers Rally and Annual Business meeting. We will be sending out flyers and putting the dates on the Konnection Calendar as soon as they are finalized. Whether you are a Fulltimer and live in your rig year round or are a part time traveler you are part of the Newmar family. As you travel across this land, be it the United States or Canada or somewhere else, stop and say Hi to your fellow Newmar owners. Introduce them to the Kountry Klub if they have not heard of it and make new friends. There are amazing people on the road and you are one of them. Evan and Debbie Hughes (19771) Presidents Join the Fulltimers Chapter by downloading the application form from the Fulltimers web page found at www.newmarkountryklub.com, or contact Peg & Dick White (15649) at [email protected] or cell phone 603-662-8929. OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2016 Kevin Bogan,Vice President of Operations and Newmar Kountry Klub Board of Directors President WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM Page 13 REGION 1 // AZ, CA, CO, NM, NV, UT Region Directors :: Marty & Marion Marcum (17221) We had a great summer. We spent three full months parked in two different RV parks in south central Utah at 6,500 feet riding our RZR in the beautiful Utah mountains nearly every day. We are so blessed and thankful to live in the United States where we have the freedom to travel and explore our beautiful country. Have you ever wondered how different (and boring) your life might be if you didn’t have a RV? We have and we both are so thankful that we have the opportunity to travel as we do. By the time you are reading this the 2016 Newmar International Rally will be history. At the time this article is being written in mid-August there are already more than 430 rigs registered. With the International being held in Pueblo, Colorado Region 1 had the task of parking and registering everyone who attended the rally. The parking and registration duties are the responsibility of the host region. With the 2017 International being held in Sedalia, Missouri the folks from Region 3 worked and trained with us so they are prepared for next year. Marion & I, along with Region 3 Directors, Larry & Katie Harrington, would like to say a very special “Thank You” to our Team Leaders – Mike & Peggy Williams, Ted & Ruth Ann Hindes, Jim & Jane Thomas and Larry & Sherri DeWitt as well as every single volunteer who helped in getting everyone parked and registered. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Without every one of the 80 volunteer members we could not have done it. There are still two more rallies in Region 1 before the end of the year. George & Cheryl Zellers are holding the Nevada State Rally in Moab, Utah October 9-13 and have 20+ coaches registered. Ted & Ruth Ann Hindes are holding the Arizona State Rally in Camp Verde, Arizona October 17-21. The Arizona State rally also has 20+ coaches registered. WOW - There are already six rallies on the books for the first five months of 2017. The California Golden Aires has their rally scheduled January 8-12 in conjunction with the Western Region FMCA in Indio, California. The “Gathering in the Desert” hosted by our Arizona State Directors, Ted & Ruth Ann Hindes, will be in Quartzsite, Arizona January 1823. If you have not been to the Gathering you need to attend. It’s dry camping but don’t let that stop you. Guaranteed you will have FUN. The Nevada State Rally will be back at Lake Meade, Nevada March 28-April 1. The Arizona Sun Catchers will be in Benson, Arizona March 6-9. California Page 14 Golden Bears have their rally planned for April 17-20 in Lodi, California. New Mexico State will be in Taos, New Mexico from May 18-22. There will be an opening for the New Mexico State Director at the end of the year and we are also looking for Chapter Presidents for the California 49er’s, Nevada Mother Lode and New Mexico Chili Peppers. You will find that volunteering for one of these positions can be a very rewarding experience. We can be contacted at 562-762-8853 or [email protected] ARIZONA This month we have decided to focus our writing on two Arizona events we feel are key to the Arizona Newmar families getting together each winter. This is true for both Arizona residents and the Arizona ‘Snow Birds’ who roost here to stay away from less pleasant weather elsewhere in this wonderful country we live in. The first of these two events are the frequent Newmar owner breakfasts and luncheons hosted by volunteers in four different locations statewide throughout Arizona from November through April. See the Klub calendar for dates and details. Yuma – A monthly Luncheon Gilbert (East Phoenix area) – A monthly breakfast Casa Grande – A bi-monthly breakfast Tucson – A monthly Luncheon Next I want to blow our own horn by telling all about the Newmar Kountry Klub “Gathering in the Desert” that Ruth Ann & I are hosting for the fourth year in January 2017. Note that all Newmar owners and guests are welcome to attend!! If you have not yet been to Quartzsite during the Big Tent RV Show in January you really must do it at least once. You will see thousands of rigs of all kinds camping with no hookups. They are parked on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) federal land for no cost or nearly none. It is a gathering that has been going on for many years peaking back about ten years ago and starting to grow in numbers again. The NKK Gathering has been attended by about seventy-five rigs each of the past two years and the weather was very good the past three years. Keep your fingers crossed please for 2017. This Gathering is published on the Klub calendar for January 18-23, 2017. Ruth Ann & I and our co-hosts, Judy & Bud Hawley, will work hard along with some help from the attendees. We have planned many seminars and a group meal four evenings in addition to the social hours and comradery that always comes with these Newmar family gatherings. We urge you to come join us at some of the Newmar breakfasts or luncheons and at “The Gathering” this winter. Arizona is a great place to spend your winter! Also check out the joint Arizona Sun Catchers and NKK Fulltimers Rally in Benson April 6-10, 2017. It will be a great one! Ted and Ruth Ann Hindes (19361) Arizona State Directors WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2016 ARIZONA SUN CATCHERS Greetings from Arizona, land of the sun and July-August monsoon rains. I am always surprised when the 6:00 o’clock news reports on flash flood warnings due to expected rainfall in the valley of ¼” to ½”. Unfortunately it is true, our ground just does not absorb water at all. A lot of us just finished up participating in a wonderful Newmar International Rally. It was great fun, packed with adventures, good food, technical sessions and of course the all-important, Newmar kind of camaraderie. You meet the best people RVing, don’t you? Next, we are looking forward to seeing some of you at our Arizona State Rally in Camp Verde, Arizona later this month (October 17-21). Thanks to Ted & Ruth Ann Hindes and all the volunteers that make these events really special. Soon after, we look forward to welcoming all our winter friends and visitors and sharing some of our 320 days of moderate temperatures and gorgeous sunshine. Come on down or out as the case as be! The Holidays will be on us before we know it and so The Sun Catchers would like to wish all of you a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday season. As a reminder the “SHARING WESTERN SKIES JOINT RALLY” Arizona Sun Catchers Chapter together with the Newmar Fulltimers Chapter are hosting a joint rally April 6-10 at the Cochise Terrace RV Resort in Benson, Arizona. It’s a short distance off I-10 exit 302 and is located up on a quiet bluff with scenic views and bright stars at night. The daily rate will be $26.00 for 2 persons, 50 AMP full hook-ups including cable TV. Please contact the RV resort directly to book your reservations. We have 40 sites blocked and the cut-off date will be February 1, 2017. Also remember to book through the Newmar Kountry Klub Calendar on line so we get all your info and the necessary release forms completed. The facility has a very large pool and hot tub, large meeting facility with kitchen and more. RV washing is permitted for a $5.00 fee and propane is available. Also, there is a Loves Travel Stop at exit 302 for convenient topping up on diesel fuel and a Wal-Mart in town. As of this writing, The SHARING WESTERN SKIES JOINT RALLY will commence with a Thursday, April 6, welcome reception/dinner and include additional daily breakfasts and dinners, one lunch and tour, optional activities such as golf, Kartchner Caverns, Tombstone and Amerind Museum visits and numerous other area attractions. Group games and entertainment is planned for certain evenings. The rally fee hasn’t been established yet but we will advise by next writing. We would also like to remind you of the January 18-23, Gathering in the Desert, Quartzsite, Arizona. This is really a good time and a chance to test out your dry camping skills and equipment. OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2016 We wish you all safe travels and look forward to seeing you on the road. Chuck and Judi Reading (16581) Presidents 623-377-6249 or 414-915-9376 CALIFORNIA Membership matters – A LOT! Every member of the Newmar Kountry Klub is important in improving the quality of life in the local chapters and overall communities. The Klub offers countless opportunities for social activities and new friendships. It is easy to say let someone else take charge, I am busy, or I have participated in the past. Being a volunteer is satisfying and rewarding, besides you plan the event, with the officers, the way you would like to see it done!! This is my message: the 49ers chapter needs a President to step up and guide the existing chapter. Some one that is willing to take charge. You may be new to the Klub; you will receive a lot of help with suggestions and hands on guidance. The rally for 2016 is completed and 2017 is waiting to be booked. Who is ready for this opportunity???!! You may call or e-mail us and we will be glad to discuss what is required. We can never say enough about the people that are chapter officers. Max & Penny Nuttall (12230) have been amazing!! They have been the Presidents for the California Bears for the last four years. Many people say “If Penny is cooking we will be at the rally”, even though they are stepping down she has assured me she will always help out in the kitchen…Thank you for your support, dedication, and friendship. And welcome to the new president Jim & Valerie McMillen (6899-L). You can tell from their NKK number they are life members with many years of Newmar experiences. California is looking forward to new fun and games with the Bears chapter. California has completed the 2016 rallies and we are on to 2017: Golden Aires January 8-11 Indio, California California Bears April 17-20 Lodi, California Check the “Calendar of Events” on line and in the magazine Happiness is not a station that you arrive at, but a manner of traveling… Steve and Ursie Fisher (15533) California State Directors [email protected] [email protected] 714-996-6897 (h) 714-488-8444 (c) CALIFORNIA 49ERS This chapter has the Secretary/Treasury in place, the vice president is ready and willing to work, BUT we need a volunteer to step up and fill the position of Chapter President. Steve and Ursie Fisher (15533) California State Directors CALIFORNIA GOLDEN AIRES Hello all. We hope that everyone had a wonderful and safe time on the road during the summer months. We have not been spending a lot of time on the road as many of you are doing, so we look forward to the time we can get our rig on the road. We sold our Newmar Scottsdale this summer. As many of you know, we purchased Bob & Lee Johnson’s Dutch Star in May. We are so excited and can’t wait to get it out for a long, long run. It was a busy summer for us, between trying to get the Scottsdale sold, our grandson’s high school graduation, and many other reasons, so we haven’t been on the road for two months. Leah & I will be hosting our first rally as Presidents of the California Aires. We just know that we will get a good turnout, so please come join us for fun at the Indian Waters RV Resort in Indio, California, January 8-11. Remember to contact the RV Park for reservations if you would like to arrive early or stay late. We wish you safe travels on your way to your next destination. Ken and Leah Wilson (20332) Presidents [email protected] CALIFORNIA GOLDEN BEARS Greetings from Northern California! We just finished the State/ Golden Bears Rally September 11-15 in Chico, California. If you were not able to attend this rally, plan to attend the next one that the new Presidents have planned April 17-20 in Lodi, California. The spring rally may work better for the people in the Northern part of the state. This was our last rally as Presidents of the Golden Bears. We have loved finding fun places and planning the rallies. We hope everyone had a good time and enough to eat at these rallies. It is time for some new ideas and other people to host. Please help them as much as you have helped us. We will still be there. We love meeting new people and love spending time with all the wonderful people who are now part of our Newmar family. Phone: (510)245-1356 Cell: (510)708-8192 We are Jim & Valerie McMillan and as of September are the Presidents of the Golden Bears. We have been NKK members since 1996 with ten years of that being Alaska State Directors. We spent 46 years in Alaska and bought a manufactured home in Jackson, California when Jim retired for the second time in 2012. We spent two winters here, returning to Alaska for the summers until we sold our home and then moved here Page 16 permanently in November 2014. We are looking forward to getting to know as many of you as we can. Please mark your calendar for April 17-20, for the Golden Bears Rally at Flag City Resort, just off I-5 near Lodi. We are putting together a fun filled rally and hope many of you will attend. A good life is when you smile often, dream big, laugh a lot and realize how blessed you are for what you have. The pre-rally was primarily for Parking/Reservation volunteers and any NKK members arriving early on their way to the 2016 International Kountry Klub Rally in Pueblo, Colorado. On the 18th, we toured Bishop’s Castle, returned to old town Pueblo and visited several historical sites. The next day we took the Cog Railroad to the summit of Pikes Peak. Then on to the Garden of the Gods and toured it on Segway’s. Transwest RV sponsored a catered dinner and entertainment at their new facilities just across the Interstate from the KOA. We are in the process of scheduling rallies for the State and Kruisin Aires for 2017. Murray and Doris Brooks (17406) Colorado State Directors [email protected] COLORADO KRUISIN’ AIRES Autumn Greeting to all! Many of the Kruisin Aires members were busy this past summer with trips to different parts of our beautiful country to visit relatives or simply to do some sightseeing. Our summer ended on a high note starting September 17th with our State Pre-Rally in Fountain, Colorado hosted by Murray & Doris Brooks, Colorado State Directors. This rally was held a few days before the NKK International Rally in Pueblo, Colorado that started on September 22. Our Kruisin Aires were well represented at the International with nine coaches attending. As usual, the International was a huge success offering many informative seminars, a nice variety of vendors showing off their wares and most important, great fellowship with members from all over the country. We are planning a luncheon sometime in early November. More to come. Randy and Kathy Bohmeyer (19329) Presidents NEVADA We were again pleased and proud to represent the State of Nevada as the Kountry Klub State Directors. What a great time we had at our Klub’s International Rally in Pueblo, Colorado. WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2016 Bob & Bonnie Krieger did another great job of assembling vendors and setting up entertaining and informative seminars. Entertainment was top notch from music to storytelling, another Thank You! Our Klub is indeed fortunate to have not only the financial support but participation of the Miller Family and the Newmar Corp. board of directors. We “Thank You” for making our Klub the best in the RV industry. It is now time to start thinking of our gathering in Sedalia, Missouri in 2017. Even with a couple more months between International Rallies, they start before you know it. So it isn’t too early to make your plans to attend. A few days after you read this article we will be hosting our Nevada State Rally in Moab, Utah. We know that many in the group have spent time in and around the area and are pleased they are returning to spend time with us. We have picked three things to do together and on the last night, we have an optional boat trip planned after the sun sets. As the boat travels down the river a very brief history of the area is narrated. We hope everyone attending enjoys the rally as much as we have had fun planning it. Now for a few words about 2017, our rally location will return to the State of Nevada and again to the shore of Lake Mead. The location is the Lake Mead RV Village which is inside the Lake Mead National Recreational Area. The location is in a fee area, but those holding a Golden Age pass can get in free. Check the on line Klub calendar for more information and updates. Before we sign off, two of the outings will be a tour of the Shelby factory/museum and a ride on the “Linq” which is presently the highest Ferris Wheel in the world. We will be happy to assist anyone wishing to assume the job, it’s not hard and really you do meet the nicest people. Have a wonderful rest of the year and see you down the road. Ross and Marie Turney (15097) Outgoing Oregon State Directors Summer of 2016 is now a distant memory! We have great memories of all the rallies we attended, both in Region 2 and the International in Pueblo. The Washington Evergreen Aires chapter rally in Monitor was very laid back and peaceful with fun games and of course, great food. Gene & Ann Carr put on a wonderful rally where we welcomed several new folks and caught up with old Newmar friends. Next came the Oregon State Rally in Florence on the coast. Ross & Marie Turney once again picked a super RV park and put together a fun rally with of coarse great food. You can’t beat the Oregon coast in September, and Old Town Florence was a lot of fun to visit. WASHINGTON As we are sitting in Spokane, we are so blessed for the freedom of being able to go where we want when we want. We arrived in Spokane after attending a great Rally in Monitor put on by the Evergreen Aires Chapter. This year’s International Rally was a great success thanks to the hard work of our International Directors, our Klub Coordinator, Region Directors, MAL, Fulltimers Chapter and all the other volunteers. These functions are not possible without the many individuals who volunteer their time. We hope that those of you who head south for the winter will have safe travels and all of you have a blessed Thanksgiving. Jim and Cheryl Witherspoon (10282) Washington State Directors Speaking of volunteers, there are several openings in Region 2 where volunteers are needed. Last month, after 6 years volunteering as Spudnut Officers and Idaho State Directors, Terry and Linda Garrett decided to step down. Many thanks for your service to the Klub. This month, after 10 years volunteering as Oregon State Directors, Ross and Marie Turney have decided to retire. Thanks for all your service to the Klub. This leaves 2 new state director openings in addition to the 3 that have been open for several years. At the Evergreen Aires Rally, Gene & Ann Carr announced their retirement as president of this chapter. Thanks to you also for your service to the Klub. Fortunately, all the other officer positions in the Evergreen Aires chapter remained filled. That is not the current condition of our other recently active chapters – the Idaho Spudnuts, the Oregon Pioneers, and Montana Big Sky chapters are all dormant without officers (volunteers). We have a great group of NKK members in Region 2 and welcome any questions you may have concerning these open positions. We can be reached at [email protected] or 208-484-5443. Travel Safely OREGON Well folks the rally season is drawing to a close for the 2016 season. The State and Region rallies have come and gone as has the International. Marie & I have been Oregon State Directors for over ten years now and it is also time for us to draw to a close. It is with a fond farewell that we say goodbye to the position and hope that someone else in the Klub steps OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2016 We are working on getting information for our 2017 Rally. We have firmed up the dates. They are September 11-15. The rally will be at The Spokane RV Resort in Deer Park, Washington. The Evergreen Aries Rally will be June 26-29 in Twisp, Washington. There will be more information on both of these Rallies in the future. We will be leaving Spokane after Labor Day to do Doctor visits in Seattle before we head off to Colorado for the International Rally. After that, we will head back to Casa Grande for the winter. We are with a very special group of fun loving folks. The trip has been a rolling classroom with the interpretive centers and the locals that meet with our group and discuss the history of their area, we have learned so much. We had one motorhome struck with lightening in South Sioux City, Nebraska and they had to stay behind. We will finish the caravan on August 28, and will have about two weeks before the International Rally. At that time we will spend some time in the Seattle, Washington area and visit our grandson and his wife along with our new great granddaughter. What fun that will be. We will arrive at the Pueblo fairground on September 12 for Region Director Conference. We are going to be part of the parking crew and registration. We have been blessed with more volunteers than we need. That is something we are not used to. We hope you all have had a great summer attending rallies or just taking a trip in your Newmar product to visit family and friends or traveling to places you have always wanted to visit. Have fun meeting new friends and spending time with people that make you happy. Always remember the Kountry Klub is for Friends, Family, Fellowship and Food. Safe travels and let God be your co-pilot. ARKANSAS As we sit here in the hot, Hot, Hot, HOT watching the leaves dry up and the grass turn brown, wishing we could get one of those rains that, thus far, have passed by us. We are not able to remember why we did not register for one of those north bound caravans that would have kept us cool, busy and entertained this summer. Well I suppose that is water under the bridge! It is early August now, but you will not be reading this for quite a while. Anyway, we hope you joined us at the Razorback Kountry Klub Rally, at Blue Sky RV Park, Mountain View, Arkansas, October 12-16. I predict it will be great fun. Ruth Page 20 Ann & James do a great job with our rallies. A huge thanks Ruth Ann, and you too James. Well it is no fun to report but we have several members dealing with RV accident issues, health issues, surgeries, retiring from the RV life style, etc, etc. That is the things that go along with that old never skipping a beat or stopping thing, called time. Our best, warmest wishes and heartfelt prayers go out to each of you! We wish you the very best! Travel Safe, Diane and Dennis Wood (18727) Arkansas State Directors KANSAS July 14th Sherry & I attended the Kansas Kountry Sunflower Rally at Lake Shawnee east of Topeka, Kansas, hosted by Jim & Vickie Sturgeon. Although several chapter members had other obligations we still had five rigs which equated to ten members, two associate members and two guests who were present for all or part of the rally. Lake Shawnee is a nice place for a rally, and we enjoyed watching boaters on the lake, playing bean bag and visiting while sitting in the shade. On July 17, Sherry & I traveled to St Charles, Missouri to join up with everyone going on the Newmar Kountry Klub Lewis and Clark Caravan. We had done some research on Lewis and Clark Expedition and were looking forward seeing many of the places that they described in their journals. As I write this Konnection article we are in Great Falls, Montana, a little over half way through with the caravan and we are having a great time. Kip & Crystal French hosted a rally at Milford Lake on August 25-28. Sherry & I were not able to attend due to us being on the Lewis and Clark Caravan. Thank you Kip & Crystal for hosting the rally. Our current plans will have us joining several of our chapter members at the International Rally in Pueblo. On October 20-23, Sherry & I will host a Kansas Kountry Sunflower Rally at Mill Creek Campground at Paxico, Kansas. Contact information on this rally may be found in the events calendar of this Konnection. Hope to see you at a rally soon, Larry and Sherry DeWitt (11440-L) Kansas State Directors MISSOURI Even though there were only nine units that attended the Missouri State Rally in July, we understand it was a successful rally, and everyone had a great time thanks to Katie & Larry WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2016 Harrington. As many of you are aware, Butch had open heart surgery on Thursday, July 7, with the state rally due to begin the following Wednesday, July 13. Joyce gave Larry & Katie a frantic call, and they very willingly stepped in, and with the help of Kay & Gene Hunt were able to continue with the rally. There were two couples attending their first Newmar Rally, and we want to welcome Tom & Jeanne Magnan who joined the Mid-Mo Wanderlusts Chapter. We already have the 2017 Missouri State Rally scheduled for August in Maysville, Missouri which is located in northwest Missouri. We have plans underway for some exciting events. More details will come as plans are completed. Butch & I had planned to do the Lewis and Clark Caravan this summer, led by Katie & Larry Harrington. However, we had to cancel all our travel plans after Butch had his surgery. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all their prayers during this difficult time. Butch is recovering nicely, and the doctors are very pleased with his recovery. Even though we will not be able to attend the International Rally in Pueblo, Colorado, this year, we are looking forward to a full recovery and getting back on the road again. We look forward to seeing you all soon! Butch and Joyce Fiebelman (13813-L) Missouri State Directors MID-MO WANDERLUSTS The chapter met August 3-6 at Coachlight RV Park, Carthage, Missouri, and was hosted by David & Marklyn Cotter. The weather was hot, but the clubhouse there was cool and there were lots of shade trees. We welcomed new members, Bob & Pat Dickens of Springfield, Missouri, and also welcomed guests, Wilbur & Dot Carlson, Springfield, Missouri, and Carol & Peggy Tibedeau, Louisiana. We are excited about having several new members this year. The highlights of the rally were two outstanding tours. The first tour was to visit Larry Glaze’s home and workshop near Carthage. His main art form is Antler Art. He makes beautiful chandeliers with antlers and also makes lovely tables with slabs of hardwoods. He makes very attractive chairs using hardwoods and sometimes antlers. He also creates bronze sculptures, each one being one of a kind. His home is filled with these outstanding pieces of art and each is very creative. The next tour was to a manufacturer, Flex-O-Lators, in Carthage, Missouri. They are part of Leggett & Platt. They make the spring supports for auto and pickup truck seats for many companies. They are highly automated and produce these parts according to each company’s specifications. The tour was very interesting and informative. games and wonderful fellowship. As this is written we’re looking forward to International Rally in Pueblo, Colorado. Dale and Judy Daniel (19097) President and Secretary TEXAS Larry, Larry and the other Larry were the hosts of the Region 3 Newmar Kountry Klub Rally at the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson, Kansas. Region 3 Directors, Larry & Katie Harrington, shared their hosting duties with Larry & Sherry DeWitt, the Kansas State Director, and Larry & Patsy Wood, the Oklahoma State Director. The Larry’s put on a terrific rally. Jim & Jane Thomas, Texas State Directors (We) attended with a little bit of apprehension of driving such a long way (650) miles for a rally in Hutchinson. We were wrong! The rally was wonderful and Hutchinson has much more to offer than I would have guessed. The Salt Mine Tour was a total surprise. The mine is 650 feet below ground and absolutely huge. The big surprise was the Cosmosphere Space Center, which is truly on a par with the Smithsonian Institute Space exhibited. We encourage everyone to check it out. When Jane & I became the Texas State Directors, we set a goal of growing the membership to reinvigorate and restart the defunct Texas Newmar Kountry Klub Chapters in North Texas and East Texas. Right now Jane & I are studying the possibility of re-forming the two chapters in the North (Dallas and Ft. Worth area) and in the East (Houston area). We have welcomed a number of new members from both areas in the past year. The challenge will be to find people who are willing to take on a leadership role in either chapter. One key difference under discussion would be that the new Chapters would not be restricted by territorial boundaries as to where they chose to hold a rally within the state. We plan to start the research process by sending out a survey to all Newmar Kountry Klub members living in Texas. The next Newmar Kountry Klub South Rally (KLSS) will be October 20-23, at the Mitchell RV Resort, Perrin, Texas (West of Ft. Worth, Texas). The November KLSS Rally will be from November 17-20 at the Miller Creek RV Resort in Johnson City, Texas (in the middle of Texas right on US Highway 281). Both rallies are listed on the website under the Klub Calendar drop down menu. All Newmar members and their friends who own a SOB (Some Other Brand) are invited to join us in a rally Texas Style. Bob and Jane Thomas (15629) Texas State Directors Of course, the rally included golf, many delicious meals, OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2016 WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM Page 21 REGION 4 // IA, IL, MN, ND, NE, SD, WI Region Directors :: Del and Lela Nordstrom (14168) Before we arrived at the Minnesota Loons Chapter Rally in Bemidji, Minnesota, we had turned off the highway on to the street to the Royal Oaks Campground, the base plate broke on the Honda we were towing. Thank heavens we were going slow, as it pulled the front end off of the Honda. The base plate hung on with just one bolt. Sure could have been a whole lot worse!!!! After the rally Lela got the privilege of driving it back to South Dakota. The new base plate had not arrived when it was time to leave for the Region 4 Rally in Milton, Wisconsin in August. So, Yes, Lela is still following Del all over the country side. We did have a great rally at Hidden Valley RV Resort. The park furnished grilled sweet corn for our pot luck dinner on Monday night at the park. We toured the Milton House Museum on Tuesday, where we went into their Underground Railroad Tunnel. Had lunch at Mac’s and then toured the Wisconsin Wagon Company. We headed back to the park for the start of the Holey Board Tournament, and enjoyed Dave’s Famous Ribs dinner at the club house. Wednesday we took off for Madison, Wisconsin to tour the Wisconsin State Capitol then returned to the park to continue the Holey Board Tournament. Dinner that night was at Rosatis Restaurant. Thursday was a free day, there were many things to tour, some went to the House on the Rock others left for the Jelly Belly Factory, or the Taliesin Building, Grumpy Troll Brewery, The New Glarus Primrose Winery, Henry Vilas Zoo, or the Rotary Botanical Gardens which covers 20 acres, and they had the ‘Flight of the Hummingbirds’ art exhibit there. On our way back to South Dakota Del & I attended the Iowa Hawkeye Travelers Chapter Rally – August 24-28, at the Amana RV Park & Event Center, Amana, Iowa. We had a wonderful time, it is always great to renew acquaintances and make new friends. Yes, Lela is still following Del!!! The 31 st Newmar International Rally in Colorado was wonderful. Thanks to Bob & Bonnie Krieger for making it an extra special experience. A special thanks to Everett & Julie Israel for taking charge of all the Arts and Crafts for us. Thanks a million to all of you volunteers that helped Region 4 with the Seminars and Arts and Crafts Contests, Show and Sale. It is your willing hands that help make the International a great success. Page 22 In June we went to North Dakota to set up the North Dakota/South Dakota State and Rushmore Roamer Rally for June 12-15 in Bismarck and Mandan. We set up the Region 4 Rally to be held August 14-17, 2017 at the Medora Campground in Medora, North Dakota. We plan to take in the Pitchfork Steak Fondue and Medora Musical under the Badland Sky in the 2,900 seat Burning Hills Amphitheatre. Tour Theodore Roosevelt National Park, the Cowboy Museum, etc. Put this on your 2017 calendar for a good ole’ Wild West experience. If you have any questions about the above rallies, please contact the person in charge, they will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have. We will leave the middle of this month to winter in our Florida home. We did get a lot done this summer getting our Illinois home ready to sell the spring of 2017. The Craft Contest went well at the International Rally. Thanks for all of the volunteers that helped host the contest. Rich & Donna Ritchie provided outstanding leadership in organizing and running the contest. As we have previously indicated, we sold our motorhome to Independence RV in Winter Garden, Florida. We had agreed to have Independence sell it on consignment, but after they had it for a week, they made us an offer we could not refuse. They didn’t realize how good shape the motorhome was in and they had a buyer before they put it on the market. This winter Everett will assume full responsibility for running the Wood Shop at Clerbrook Golf and RV Resort as well as teaching woodworking. Julie will continue to do a lot of quilting. She is a member of two quilting groups. We sure do miss all our RV friends we got to know the last five years during our motorhome days. We treasure the many friendships we have made during our RV days. As the result of looking through Julie’s logs, we did not realize the number of places we had visited. We will always treasure the adventures we have experienced. We have enjoyed working with the many NKK members as Chapter Officers, State and Regional Directors, and NKK office staff and international directors. We have made a lot on new friends and have enjoyed their camaraderie. Best wishes to everyone and God Bless each person we have come to know. Best Wishes to All and God Bless! Everett and Julie Israel (10622-L) Outgoing Illinois State Directors WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2016 MINNESOTA Greetings, well another rally season has ended, in Minnesota. We saw many interesting attractions this year. We ate at Betty’s Pie Shop on the North Shore and at the “Brauhaus” and ate fantastic German cuisine. We saw the home of the birth of “3M” and two Light House stations. We had a delightful time at the “Wood Tick Theater” and caught some fish on Leech Lake. We toured Camp Ripley and enjoyed a Wild Life Museum and a War Museum. The Region 4 Rally was great and the International Rally was memorable according to all who attended. But of all we toured and learned my favorite memories were of the people. The Minnesota Loons are a GREAT GROUP. Every one of the Kountry Klub Members is a great companion. Whether sightseeing, playing cards, visiting, playing beanbag baseball, or going for a walk the camaraderie is fantastic. We get along so well. And so the camping year has ended. Now the campers are looking forward to meeting up in the south. Escape from Minnesota’s snow season is upper most in everyone’s thoughts. Unless, of course, they are like Pete and then their thoughts are turning to the hunting. Best wishes and safe travels to all! We wish each and every one of you safe travels and start making your plans for the next rally season here in Wisconsin. We had a great state rally here in Wisconsin, we held the annual election of officers for the position of President and Secretary. As normal we had nobody new that wanted to take over the positions, so I remain President and Janice Gundrum (11974L) will hold the Secretary duties for another term of office. At some point it will be necessary for other members to start taking on these duties to keep the Chapter alive. We had two outstanding tours at the rally and good food was provided to the membership. Additional details on the rally can be viewed on the Web Site under Region 4 and Wisconsin for August. So if you haven’t been on the Web Site, please give it a try as there is a new article each month from us on the happenings here in Wisconsin. While at the State Rally the membership voted to give anyone that has a paid up 2016 membership with the Northern Aires a FREE YEAR IN 2017. So your 2017 membership dues has now been paid for by the Chapter. If you were one of the few that had paid ahead for 2017 you will now be paid through 2018. The Region 4 Rally was a great success, a great time was had by everyone attending and it gave us a chance to get to know other Region 4 members from the Region. I wish we could have had more members from Wisconsin attending, but for various reasons our group was much smaller than we had hoped for. We want to WELCOME two new memberships to the Kountry Klub and the Wisconsin Northern Aires. Our longtime friends Len Osgar & Judy Jordan (21420) who just changed brands to Newmar and Robert & Teresa Roessel (21496) who are new to the RV life style and we hope to meet them in the near future. We want to WELCOME each of you to the Newmar family and the Northern Aires. At this writing we have our May Rally for 2017 set along with our State Rally in July and working on another Chapter Rally in August. So at this time only need another member or couple of members to host a rally in June for 2017. The Region 4 Rally along with the International are already planned and in the calendar of events for 2017. So start making your plans now to attend as many rallies as possible. These rallies are planned for your enjoyment and benefit. The rally hosts are doing these rallies for you! Watch the Web Site and Konnection for additional details on the rallies in the near future. As stated earlier, safe travels to everyone and have a Happy Thanksgiving! Terry and Pat Bengtson (10831) Wisconsin State Directors It sounded like everyone attending the International should have had another great rally. It was again great that it was at a new location with many additional points of interest for everyone to enjoy. OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2016 WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM Page 23 REGION 5 // AL, FL, GA, MS, NC, SC, TN, VA Region Directors :: Gary & Wanda Smith (16540-L) Wanda and I left the 10 th of August to head toward Pueblo. What sites we saw while making our way there? We were able to remove a few of America’s sites and National Landmarks from our bucket list. Our International Directors planned the 31st International Rally to be remembered by all who attended. Those that were not able to attend missed out on a great rally. Thank you Bob and Bonnie. Thank you Linda Feece for all of your hard work and dedication. I would like to say thanks to all of the volunteers. Volunteering is the key to making a rally successful for all of those in attendance but mostly for the individual, himself or herself. It is the best way to meet people. I must give a shout out to all the team members helping Region 5 with its responsibilities. This being the first International for Wanda & I as Region 5 Directors, you made the job much easier. I hope all of you had as much fun as we did. I hope to see many of you at Region 5 Rally October 24-29. Don’t forget about the Tampa Super Show January 17-22, 2017. I mentioned our bucket list earlier. Alaska is on that list and if all goes well that will be removed as Newmar caravans to Alaska in June, 2017. Wanda & I would like to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving. We thank God every day for blessing us with the ability to travel in our RV to see God’s creations all around us. We are so thankful for all of the people that cross our path. It is also our prayer that we are a witness for Christ and ask forgiveness when we fail. We want to thank you for the privilege of serving as your Region Directors. WE can be contacted anytime at gsmith8800@ gmail.com Safe travels and we hope to see you soon. Love God Love Others. FLORIDA We have just wrapped up another successful International Rally in Pueblo, Colorado. Many have been up Pikes Peak via the cog rail, we have seen the Royal Gorge, we have over eaten and we have all looked the 2017 Newmar’s over from top to bottom. A huge thanks to Bob & Bonnie all the time and effort you have put into the rally. I don’t think most of us have any idea how much time or how many trips to the rally site it takes to make something like this be such an amazing event. Also a big thanks to Linda for all of her behind the scenes time and effort. Page 24 Some Kountry Klubbers are either at the Balloon Fiesta or have just departed. Others are on the Grand Circle Caravan and many of us are returning to our Florida locations. As we return we will be attending the Region 5 Rally at Citra, Florida Oct 24-29. The Manatees will have their November rally just five days later November 3-6 at nearby Ocala Sun RV Resort. The Pelicans will be at the Silver Palms Resort in Okeechobee November 6-11 for their welcome back rally. November 10-13 will find the Sea Turtles at the Joy RV Resort in Cocoa, Florida for their first rally of the upcoming rally season. The Emerald Koast Sandpipers will have their first rally at Pine Mountain RV Resort Pine Mountain, Georgia December 8-11. If any of you find yourselves in the area and have a desire to attend one of these rallies look them up on the web site or in this edition of the Konnection. Give the rally host a call to see if there are any openings as many of our rallies here in Florida have been sellouts this past year. Be sure to check the web site for any events this coming winter rally season. According to my records there are between thirty-five and forty rallies, luncheons and events planned between now and the end of April here in Florida. This past summer our members could have been found in just about any part of our great country enjoying the nomadic life style that our Newmar RV’s allow us to live. Others of us stayed in Florida either by choice or because of medical necessity. Nancy & I were in the latter group. This was our first summer in Florida and we found it not to be as unbearable as we had anticipated. I guess 95 degrees is hot no matter where you are. Some places you have the humidity with it and other places you have the hot wind with it. We were able to leave by mid-August so that we could attend the International Rally in Pueblo. We look forward to seeing you this winter at a chapter rally or perhaps the Rally in the Keys December 6-11. Making new memories the Newmar Kountry Klub way. Safe Travels, Kent and Nancy Miller Florida State Directors 863-991-3910 or 862-664-0242 [email protected] FLORIDA MANATEES As you read this, summer has ended, kids are back in school, and the International rally is a memory. However, as I write this most of us are hoping to find cooler places to spend the summer as trips are in full swing. Hopefully, all will have a wonderful summer seeing new places and spending time with loved ones and friends. We are looking forward to International in Pueblo, Colorado. Golf carts will again be transporting rally goers and tours, entertainment, and service are planned. The Region 5 rally is planned for October in Citra, Florida followed by the Florida Manatee rally season starting in November. January is, as always, the Tampa Supershow in Tampa, Florida. It will be a busy fall this year. WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2016 Welcome new members, William & Rosemary Lumsden to the Manatees! We look forward to meeting them at a rally in the near future. Our deepest condolences go to Jo Mellen and Bob & Sandy Mellen in the death of a fellow Manatee, Jim Mellen, Jo’s husband and Bob’s brother. Please keep them in your prayers. We hope to see everyone at International, Region 5 and our fall rallies. Until then, remember, the important things in life aren’t things. Karen Burnette (16482) President FLORIDA PELICANS The Florida Pelicans are starting to head south after a glorious summer and fall of fun and travel. Some of us spent the summer in Northeastern states, some traveled to our beautiful Western Parks, some ventured as far as Alaska and some remained in Florida enjoying the monthly luncheons. A few Pelicans traveled to Colorado to attend the Newmar International Rally, which was a huge success. There were many exhibits, beautiful new Newmar coaches, training seminars, entertainment, on site repair and the opportunity to share and enjoy the fellowship of other Newmar owners. For the second year, golf cart transportation driven by volunteers was available. We would like to thank all of the Kountry Klub officers and volunteers for their hard work in putting together another wonderful rally. Our flock is looking forward to the Welcome Back Rally which will be held on November 6-11 at the Silver Palms RV Resort in Okeechobee, Florida. Fun activities include: Ugly sox contest, Billiard tournament, Pickle Ball lessons, Senior Volleyball and other games. See the Klub Calendar for reservation information. Please note that all of our rallies are Buddy Rallies and open to Newmar owners from other chapters. Bea Hamor (18907) President FLORIDA SANDPIPERS We are in our dark months but will start having rallies in October and December. Guess this is why so many Sea Turtles have been on the road! One couple sent back beautiful pictures of British Colombia and Canada as they made their way up the Alaskan Highway. Another couple worked hard at OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2016 the fish hatcheries in the great Northwest. I see that they did barter for time off also as they toured Oregon and Washington State! Some Sea Turtles have been up the East Coast to North Carolina and all the way to Maine. Cooler weather up there! The next exciting adventure for some of us was to head west to the International Rally and after that many of us moved on to Albuquerque for the Balloon Fiesta. Several of us in Region 5 can look forward to our Region Rally in Citra, Florida. Always exciting times when you belong to the Sea Turtles of NKK! Karen Terry (19880) President MID SOUTH TRI-STATE (GA–AL–MS) Hello everyone, fall is upon us which brings great RV’ing opportunities in cooler weather and fall color. We just returned from the 31st International Rally in Pueblo, Colorado with over 425 rigs in attendance. What a great location and good times were had by all. Many rally attendees including ourselves took advantage in the weeks prior to the International to visit many sights enroute such as Mt Rushmore, Cody and Yellowstone to name a few. Debbie & I along with Steve & Karen Burnette (Florida Manatees) hosted a Peach State Krackers International “pre-rally” at Garden of the Gods RV Resort in Colorado Springs September 16-19. We had a great turnout with 17 rigs in attendance from GA, FL, NC, MI, MS, PA and TN. Our group made many great memories with visits to Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods Park, Cave of the Winds and The Air Force Academy. Concluding the rally was a game night with door prizes and an Ice Cream Social. Now that we are home we get a few days rest then off to Citra, Florida for the Region 5 Rally. We want to congratulate and welcome Steve & Debbie Matthews as our Mid-South Tri-State Directors. I know they will be blessed and do a great job in this position. We look forward to working with them. The PSK luncheon was held in August at The Bay Breeze Seafood Restaurant with 16 in attendance. The International as well as the PSK pre-rally are history. We were excited to be a part of the fun and fellowship. It was good to see our friends and to make new ones. Bob & Bonnie Krieger did an outstanding job! Tori & I were unable to attend the pre-rally in Colorado Springs at The Garden of the Gods RV Park. Steve & Debbie Matthews (host), Steve & Karen Burnette (co-host) had a great turn out for this rally. We will caravan with them to the International Rally in Pueblo, CO. Roger reserved several campground locations along the way out there. One of our favorite stops was at the Garden of the Gods. We arrived safely on the 22nd of September in Pueblo (early birds). We took two pre-rally tours: the COG railroad trip to Pikes Peak and the Royal Gorge train and chili festival. Both trips were great. We enjoyed our time spent volunteering in several areas— parts, golf cart driving, picking up and returning members to rally, vendor areas, and seminars. We had a lot of fun and met many new members and old friends. We attended some very good seminars and the food was excellent. The NC/SC chapters held a joint social that was enjoyed by all members and guests attending. The rally was great and only surpassed by the beautiful scenery provided by the Rockies and the various attractions. Start thinking about attending the 2017 International Rally to be held in Sedalia, Missouri which is fairly close to Branson, sounds exciting! It is great to meet old friends from other chapters and make new friends each year. We also enjoy volunteering for different tasks each year. We personally like the timing of the fall International Rally. Our rally co-hosts, James & Gwen Draffin and us have finalized the plans for the December 6-9 “Christmas at the Beach” Rally at Ocean Lakes Resort in Myrtle Beach. The details are posted in the “Calendar of Events” on line and the Pals Chapter section. This is always a great time to Page 26 be at the “Beach” because it is not crowded, there are many Christmas shows available and great shopping. So “Come on Down” and join us for a great rally! I was right at “Home” in Cowboy Church! Thanks to each one of you for your leadership and time in making Newmar Kountry Klub the premier RV Klub in the industry! Mark your calendar right now for the 32nd Annual NEWMAR Kountry Klub International Rally in Sedalia, Missouri at the Missouri State Fairgrounds 22 Sept-30 Sept 2017. If I remember correctly the last International Rally we had there was 2001. Time to be back in the “SHOW ME STATE”. There will be lots of October/November activities and functions to join and enjoy. Columbus Day, Halloween, ELECTION DAY, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving will make this a busy two months. Many of you will be headed to your winter homes in the south. Keep checking the Konnection’s “Calendar of Events” to see what is happening in your area and join in on the fun. Florida, Texas and Arizona, will for sure have luncheons, and rallies. Special Events: The Keys, Tampa Super Show, Hawaii Cruise, just to name a few you will want to checkout and get registered before they fill up. Charlene and I salute all our Veterans. Rallies! Yes, we are talking about rallies. I would like to send out a “thank you” to our membership and our rally co-hosts, Tobe & Sam Witt. In the last article I put out a call for new rally co-hosts and new rally locations. We had both! On the downside, we picked some of the hottest temperatures of the year. With the temperatures what they were, everyone said they had a good time overlooking the beautiful Blue Water Marina & RV Park and Lake Chickamauga, both located in Dayton, Tennessee. WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2016 And then there was Pueblo! The scenery was to die for and of course there was the food and the shopping. We can’t have a rally without the food! With our fall-like local temperatures there was no reason to not get out there and enjoy the surroundings. With this one checked off the list I believe everyone is now scattered to the winds to get in yet another outing before ending our good weather and a great rally season. And one final reminder...Don’t forget about the Tampa Super Show beginning January 17, 2017. I’m never sure if this outing is the one last final outing for the camping season or just the beginning of a new one to come. Plans were made as we went. We all enjoyed the food, of course, especially the shrimp and nightly ice cream at the trading post. What fun it was to compete on the miniature golf course and enjoy the campfires at the Jones. Yorktown, Gloucester, and many other places were on our tour route. We were joined by our Members at Large, Ron & Wanda Llewellyn and their son, Stephen. State Directors for Michigan, John & Carolyn Williams also brought their daughter, Patti. It was not planned but it made it an even number for the golf carts we rented to take us all over South Bass Island. What fun that was. We had a spectacular view of the island from Perry’s Memorial, spent time watching hundreds of butterflies flying around at the Butterfly House, and Toured the Antique Car Museum. Then we took a tour through the area of homes on the Island. A stop for ice cream was the last thing we did before leaving the island. Back at camp we had an exciting boat race where all were able to make and race their boat. Jerry is still complaining because he doesn’t see why he was disqualified from the race (he cheated). We spent a week in Nappanee having some work done on the motorhome at camp Newmar. As usual we met some new people and made some new friends. We even saw some people we knew from working together at past International Rallies. Linda was swamped with people in her office wanting to know more about the Klub. We tried to answer as many questions as we could and talked a couple of the new people we met into joining the Klub. Jerry stuffed envelopes, and we catalogued door prizes for International. We were happy to be able to help out in any way we could. As this is written in six days we leave for our Region 6 Rally in New Martinsville, West Virginia. When we return from the Region Rally we will have four days and then we leave for Nappanee again to have a couple tweaks done to the motorhome and off to Colorado. We will be gone from home for 2-2 ½ months. The longest we have ever been gone. We are looking forward to it. Connie Ault (19315) President 317-409-3339 or [email protected] KENTUCKY By the time this is read the International Rally will be over and attendees will be heading back home in all directions. We trust that the rally was a fantastic success and enjoyed by all participants. We certainly did miss our Newmar family this year. I mentioned in the last Konnection article that we were having our coach repainted – the nicks and chips from our Alaska and Maritimes trips told us it was time. Before dropping the coach off for the repainting, we went to Midway RV in Grand Rapids, Michigan for our annual maintenance on the coach. We have always been pleased with the service department at Midway as they have fixed problems that others have been unable to diagnose. We highly recommend Midway to our Newmar family. After Grand Rapids we headed to the Spartan Service Center in Charlotte, Michigan for our annual chassis maintenance. While there, we ran into Don & Brenda Charles who were having their Mountain Aire coach serviced. Don & Brenda were the first State Directors for Kentucky and were instrumental in the formation of the Bluegrass Kountry Roamers chapter back in 1999. Don & Brenda have since retired, and relocated to Florida and are very active in the Florida Tailgators chapter of FMCA. We both did our part to contribute to the Michigan economy. We continue to pray for our fellow Bluegrass Kountry Roamers who are experiencing health issues and wish them all a speedy return to good health. We are always looking for rally hosts and members willing to serve as officers of the Bluegrass Kountry Roamers chapter. Please contact us if you have an interest – volunteering is what keeps our Klub active and viable. Safe travels until we meet again. Mike and Marilyn McEvoy (15434) Kentucky State Directors WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2016 OHIO Here it is Mid-August and it has been Hot, Hot, and Hot. By the time this article comes out, the Region 6 Rally in West Virginia will be history and we will be gearing up for the International Rally in Pueblo, Colorado. Phyllis & Jerry Rose and Carolyn & John Williams had a fabulous Ohio/Michigan combined State Rally in July. Everyone had a great time and it’s always great to see old friends (all were older…. some were just new). Many tin can flowers were created and how different each was. Many of you remember former Buckeye members, Lana & Ed Huff. Well, they planned a mini-Buckeye Reunion at their home on August 6. They invited a few, then several, then many (over 30) of the past/present Buckeye members and friends. Wow, to their surprise, almost everyone accepted the Huff’s invitation to come to their beautiful home in Sunbury, Ohio. With great support from their daughters, Liana and Lanette (and their families) (and help from Sandra Rhamey for a “Low Country Boil”), the Huffs provided food, shelter from the sun and even dessert for those RV friends. It was fun and great to see many of the past Buckeye members who have retired their RV wheels. Many stories and lots of laughs were shared. As they say: Once in the Newmar Family---always in the Newmar Family. One of our senior-most past members is Koree Orcutt. Lana Huff invited her to the August 6 outing, but Koree was unable to attend due to the far distance to travel (she will be 100 yrs young next February 2017). Koree lost Tom Orcutt, her lifelong partner of 69yrs., in Dec. 2012. To help her remember some of the good RV times together with the Buckeye Kountry Travelers, we had a picture puzzle of her family made of their last RV rally in 2011. Koree loves to do puzzles and asked if we could share the attached completed 16” x 26”, 1000 piece picture puzzle with you all. Koree really enjoys it. The summer is history and fall is here as you are reading this article. It’s August now as we submit our article to be published. Rhode Island is presently in the 90’s and we are wondering just where did the summer go?! The RV is packed for the International Rally and we leave here August 18 and start our trip out to Pueblo, Colorado. We will stop in Pennsylvania to scout out our next Region 7 Rally site looking at a rally date after Labor Day, and then Nappanee for some coach work and to help out in the Klub office. The Klub office is a busy place right now with International only weeks away. We look forward to writing about the rally in the next issue. Our summer was spent with family. Our daughter, her husband and three children ages 6, 4 & 3 moved in with us for 3 weeks between their house closings. Oh- did we mention the 2 dogs came too! They moved in and thank goodness for our “little house on wheels.” Every night when the kids were in a sugar high mode we “Retreated” out to our little piece of sanity for the night. Grand parenting is great but now we know why you raise a family when you’re young! We survived and look forward to visiting them on their own turf! The motorhome does fit in their driveway!!! Again, we are blessed to be able to spend the winter months in Naples, Florida this year. After six years at the Naples Motorcoach Resort we are moving to the Pelican Lake Motorcoach Resort. Looking forward to meeting new friends. There’s a lot of Newmar coaches in the park and to be sure we will be introducing ourselves and telling them all about our great Klub. Pennsylvania -We’re still looking for State Directors. Please think about it. We have met so many of you in our travels and know, first hand, there are quite a few of you who would make great Directors. Give us a call and we’ll give you all the info and help to get you started. As always we can be reached at [email protected] or give us a call Bob 401-808-9030 or Jane 401-808-9031. Travel Safe--- Page 30 NEW ENGLAND STATES Hello again from New England. Our joint FMCA and New England States rally was held in New Hartford, Connecticut at Hurley Field over the Fourth of July weekend. This was a dry camping rally in a beautiful setting along the Farmington River, fly fishing and kayak enthusiasts were in abundance throughout the daylight hours. We had a great time meeting new people that we hadn’t camped with before. We also had a new couple join our chapter from the group. Welcome Vince & Louise Wessling and their new rig. Vince was gracious enough to cook made to order omelets one morning. They will be a great addition and a lot of fun at our upcoming rallies. The last rally of the year is the “We Can’t Go To International Rally” Rally. This is being held in Bernardston, Massachusetts at the Travelers Woods Campground September 29- October 2. This rally is being hosted by first time rally hosts Billy & Jeannie Silvester. For more information about our chapter visit Facebook and the New England Aires!! Live Each Day Like It’s Your Last George and Cathy Keith (15055) New England States Directors NEW ENGLAND AIRES We are writing this article mid-August during a heat wave. Not only have the temperatures been in the 90’s but the humidity is in the mid 70’s. Really glad we don’t have any rallies this month. It’s just too hot to be doing anything outside. As this is written we have two more New England Aires events coming this fall in addition to the NKK International Rally for which a few of you will be making the trek to Colorado. Please keep in mind the rally we have coming up September 29 - October 2 at Travelers Woods of New England in Bernardston, MA. Contact Bill Silvester at 860-559-7477 or [email protected]. We are also going to resurrect the annual Fall/Holiday Luncheon. It will be held on November 12 at the home of Barb & Brad Wright in Ellington, Connecticut. Please feel free to contact us at the phone or e-mail below for more information. New England Aires members should have received a newsletter with flyers for the above via e-mail. If you didn’t get the newsletter; please contact us to be sure we have your correct e-mail address. The Allegheny Kountry Kampers met for our summer picnic/rally in July hosted by the Houser’s. We had nine coaches at Sharp’s Campground in Shelocta, Pennsylvania and four couples that attended the day picnic. As always the food was outstanding and there was plenty for everyone. We even had an aerial group photo. We have five rigs from Pennsylvania signed up for the International Rally. As you read this issue of the “Konnection” the rally will be in the history books. So I hope you will have “konnected” with some of us. If not, maybe we will see you somewhere on the snowbird circuit this winter. Have fun and remember..... WE ARE ALL TOO BLESSED TO BE STRESSED!!!! Thanks for help in keeping the Klub going. Have you checked out the Special Events the Klub is offering? If you are travelling to Florida, how about the Rally in the Keys, December 5-11, hosted by Ron & Wanda Llewellyn? How about the Tampa Supershow, January 1722? This event will be hosted by Gary & Wanda Smith, Region 5 Directors. There are also numerous Klub luncheons held in Florida over the winter. Check out the magazine “Calendar of Events” or go on line to see the latest. Ever wanted to cruise Hawaii? Well now you can. Join Bob & Bonnie Krieger, International Directors, and tour the Islands aboard the Norwegian Cruise Line’s, Pride of America. Glen & I did this cruise in 2008 and enjoyed it immensely. This time of year also reminds us to check our membership expiry as well as the Konnection magazine renewal date. Also, please check and make sure, the Klub office has any changes in address ( or a winter address) email or phone contact information. This helps Linda keep her records up to date so nothing gets missed. Until next time..... See the “CALENDAR OF EVENTS” and begin making your travel plans today! It was not really clear what the sign was promoting or trying to sell. I am not sure I will ever understand how the “passage of time” works, but suddenly here we are at the end of summer with schools back in session. How time flies. Time goes by fast, and people go in and out of your life so quickly, so you should never miss the opportunity to tell these people how much they mean to you. The fall is a great time for us here in Canada. The fall harvest reaps a great variety of fruits and vegetables but more importantly the internal clock of the snowbird signals the slow migration south. The Canadian Snowbird Association has published a 100-page booklet that is full of information for the south bound travelers. It can be downloaded for free from their web site. For sale ads are allowed provided they are RV related. If you are not a friend of Region 9 Facebook page, please consider joining today to enjoy the many postings of events and rally pictures posted by YOUR Newmar friends. June 2017 will be the 20th anniversary of the Alberta Wild Rose Chapter. An anniversary rally is being planned for June 14 to 18 in Iricanna which is 61 klms northeast of Calgary. We are looking for anyone who would like to make a short video congratulating the Alberta Wild Rose chapter a “Happy 20th Anniversary” to send it to us and we will see that it is shown at the rally. This is easily done with the cell phones and cameras in use today. Please take a few minutes and record your video. Email videos to [email protected]. SAVE the DATE! This summer has seen a few great volunteers step up to fill the voided Klub positions that were open and for that we are deeply appreciative. We still need to fill the position of Alberta Provincial Director, and would like to see someone from Saskatchewan/Manitoba take on the Provincial Directors position for those two provinces. Volunteering is a great way to make new friends and show your support for a great Klub. Call or email us if you would like more information. The ten day Vancouver Island rolling rally was a great success to those who attended. Theresa & Robert Fraser were the hosts and we thank them for a superb job of setting up this rally. More information and pictures can be found on the Region 9 Facebook page. Our contact list’s maintenance is a time consuming task that must be done. Updating, adding deleting and correcting the 300 plus contacts we have in Region 9 is a job by itself. One way to lessen the time needed is to use an online system to contact everyone. Such a system has been used for many years. Facebook still remains the number one social network program. All Klub regions have a Facebook page with region 9 having over 130 members as “friends”. All the regions’ Facebook pages are “private” sites meaning only members can post to the site, which eliminates any unwanted postings. A new Region, State/Provincial Rally “Cancellation Policy” is being implemented. 1)An administrative fee of $10/person will be charged. This fee will cover costs associated with processing your rally registration and will be included in the rally fees as advertised. 2)Members who register for a rally and then: a)For whatever reason, cancel a minimum of 35 days prior to the start of the rally will receive a full refund, less the administrative fee of $10/ person. b)Cancel 34 to 8 days prior to the start of a rally will be charged for any non-refundable commitments made on your behalf in addition to the $10/person fee. c) Cancel 7 or less days prior to the start of a rally will receive No Refund on any portion of the rally fee paid. 3)Members who register for a rally and do not advise the Hosts that they will not be attending will receive no refund. 4)All refunds will be made at the conclusion of the rally.
